Classes ranging from Pre-K through 8 Grade and including: Guitar Ensemble, Band, Chorus, General Music & Rock Band.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid back teacher with many years of experience, which gives me the confidence to make the lessons fun and educational. Even though I am not very strict, I do have some expectations of my students: they will have to practice in order to be ready for the next lesson and in order to improve and show progress. After 3 or 6 months, my students will be able to play songs with various chords already, be able to read simple music and start learning how to improvise.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room: Amps, guitars, full keyboard

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would provide the book for the student on the first lesson, however after that the student would have to purchase the book. I will have my own instrument, but the student must have their own instrument in order to be ready for the lesson. I do have a number of guitars and if its a guitar student - I would be able to let the student use one of my guitars on the first lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I teach many various styles and incorporate the reading and music literacy in all of the styles. I specialize in teaching Classical and Rock genres of music. However I have taught: Metal, Bossa Nova, Pop, Punk, Flamenco, Progressive. Teaching classical genre - I incorporate a lot of various techniques that are very broad in spectrum to help the student learn to perform the music, read, improvise and compose. Teaching Rock genre - I teach my students to read music as well and concentrate on improvising and soloing techniques as well.

Loving my teacher

I have studied with Alex for over 5 years, time in which I feel I have accomplished so much on the guitar. Alex is awesome! He has real passion for the music and the instrument he teaches, he is extremely patient, has great insights in explaining the music or the techniques and shows a great resourcefulness in approaching various methods to each musical style he teaches.

Learning to Play

Alex is a great teacher. He is extremely patient and very good at taking his time to explain the things you do not understand. It's easy for me to express my own concerns as well as ask him questions. I also think his teaching techniques are great. He uses songs of your choosing as well as knows plenty of songs to advance your techniques with the guitar in realistic stages. He is good with constructive criticism. I like his honesty and directness, but he never makes you feel like you can't do it. Alex can spot things wrong with your technique quickly and help correct them. He also promotes a positive environment for those not yet confident in their playing.

I am very happy with Alex as my guitar teacher and feel that I can learn so much from him and I would definitely recommend him to another guitar player.

I've been playing bass guitar for about 6 years, playing in a variety of styles and getting to know the instrument as a writing tool.

About Cory
Hello and welcome all! My name is Cory Jacobs, I'm a Brooklyn born guitarist, educator, and composer, and I'm thrilled that you are reading this, because that means you're interested in pursuing music. I have been teaching and performing for around ten years, and plan on teaching for the rest of my life. Since completing my Master's degree in guitar performance, I've decided that I'm going to use this instrument as a tool for communication, education, and entertainment, in every way that I can. I love sharing music with anyone and everyone, and being the guiding, positive force to help people pursue their goals and learn music, to whatever capacity they intend to.

There is no previous experience in music or guitar necessary to begin lessons. Most of my students began with only a guitar and a bit of enthusiasm, and that's all anyone ne
eds. We'll be doing a lot of learning, playing, listening, and hopefully a bit of laughing, if you enjoy awkward and sometimes bizarre humor.

*** Home Studio Equipment ***
Home Studio: guitar amp, bass amp, cables

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will come with my guitar, a metronome, and a cable if my student is studying electric guitar. My student should have a guitar, paper, a pencil, a metronome, and an amplifier (for electric guitarists & bassists.)

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach musical fundamentals and basic technique to all of beginner students, as well as discuss practice methodology, listening practice, and musical style. We will be delving into rudiments quite a bit, but using riffs, melodies, and applicable chord progressions to learn. Learning to read musical notation is not necessary for many musical goals, but we can pursue that route if desired, and it is highly encouraged for a comprehensive musical understanding.

For intermediate students will likely want or need to work on specific things, ie technique, learning specific songs, music theory, learning the ins and outs of specific genres, composition, improvisation. My specialties include pop, rock, metal, funk, jazz, and classical guitar.

I am very open to regular communication with my students to answer questions, share recommended listening or reading, and of course, be on top of scheduling and logistics. I try my best to make our time together a rewarding and fun experience, and to pass forward the great fortune of learning music.

I prescribe lessons complete with Solo, Ensemble, and Technical Playing and Reading Skills thoroughly as well as progressively. I make the lessons fun and interesting and relate well with all types of personalities. My students view me as a teacher and friend who' s a good listener when they have things like overloads in homework from school and other complications that kids face. They do great at NYSSMA and are asked to play in all ensembles at school. I love animals and my hobbies are hiking in the mountains including in snow and ice, camping, building things and work on my own car when I can. Most of my students stay with me for
8-10 yrs. and handle themselves very well in all ensembles. They play to earn scholarships for college as well and play for life. Happy Playing!

Bass lessons are taught one-on-one and from a beginner level to an Intermediate level. Ages of students start at 6-years-old and up. I have many adult students as well. It's never too late to start a new instrument.

Some of my most noteworthy performances have included Late Show with David Letterman (Justin Townes Earle and Allison Moorer), Tonight Show with Jay Leno (Allison Moorer), Levon Helm'™s Midnight Ramble (Allison Moorer), The Conan O'™Brien Show (Julia Nunes) and Budokan in Tokyo, Japan (Jim Campilongo Trio).

My Bachelor of Music is from Capital University where I studied with three great teachers:
Robert Breithaupt - Classical percussion and jazz drum set
Jim Ed Cobbs - Drum set, tabla and frame drums
Eric Paton - Taiko, samba, Afro-Cuban drums

I treat
each student individually, catering to specific goals and needs that we will decide upon and plan together. Some students want to seriously study a craft. Others want a hobby that will be fun and interesting. I have had success teaching to both, and will impart basic fundamentals and musicianship to all types of students.

I see my primary job as keeping the student inspired, intellectually fed and sprinting in the right direction. The student's job is to do the work. Daily practice is essential to move forward in any craft.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My Brooklyn studio is a dedicated music space with two drum sets, PA, amplifiers and recording capabilities.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide books, a drum pad, sticks or mallets, an iPod with two sets of headphones, and a metronome. Additionally, I can bring small hand drums, special instruments and percussion that might be needed for specialty lessons. I expect students to have some sort of pad or drum to practice on at home; a full drum set is not necessary.

My primary goal with all of my students is to help them make great music that is true to themselves. I also try to stick with a sound-before-symbol approach to learning music. What this means for my teaching is a focus on training both the ears and technique. I always prefer a more personalized approach to teaching, working with students to find repertoire that speaks to them and improves their musicality and technique.

About Isaac
I am a musician, composer, and educator with backgrounds in both jazz and classical studies. I have a Bachelors of Music from New England Conservatory and a Masters of Music at Berklee College of Music's Global Jazz Institute. I am regularly performing in a wide variety of settings from jazz to avant-garde to hip hop and anything in between. Some of my past teachers include Susan Hagen, Dave Holland, John Patitucci, Cecil McBee, Danilo Perez, Frank Carlberg, and Jason Moran among others. I have remained as passionate about my teaching as I am about my art and constantly strive to do both to the best of my ability.

Isaac is an excellent teacher and is highly recommended. His method is not centered on drills, music reading or repetition, but rather on getting an understanding of how the notes, chords work together. In so doing, the student gets a great understanding of theory and it opens the door to improvisation. In addition he's very patient with folks such as myself who don't come to class with a deep understanding of music theory.

Electric bass has a rich and deep history, despite being a relatively new instrument. We will cover many different playing techniques and the role of the electric bass in different styles. We will learn specific bass lines to popular songs, and also give you the knowledge to come up with your own bass lines!

About Zach
Zachary began studying the double bass at the age of 6 in his home state of Massachusetts. Using gut strings and a personalized technique, Zachary has developed a conception of the double bass that is able to heighten the integrity of various musical environments. From adventurous improvised music to jazz standards to accompanying singer-songwriters in a folk setting, he is at ease in a variety of styles. Zachary can be found playing and teaching in the New York City area and currently resides in Brooklyn, NY, where he has made his home since 2012.

Zachary holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Bass Performance from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. His goal as an educator is to give a well rounded background, allowing the student to develop a personal sound while gaining a thorough understanding of music fundamental
s. Lessons will also cover traditional concepts of bass technique, and use established methodology (and reference recordings!) for development in addition to personalized lesson plans and excercises. For double bass Zachary teaches German bow, though regularly uses a Dragonetti baroque bow in performance.

A double bass is available for use at his home studio during lessons, a bass amp for electric, and an 88-key keyboard. Please reach out with any questions, thank you!

Having performed jazz, funk, rock, pop, blues, Brazilian fusion, and classical among other genres, I use the fluidity between these inform each of my lessons. Whether a student is a beginner looking to play their favorite song on the radio, an intermediate looking for some music theory to give them more options in their playing, or an advanced player looking for improvisatory techniques, I tailor each session to the desires of each student and their learning style.

About Daniel
I'm a gigging musician and teacher who graduated from Oberlin College in May 2015 with a degree in Musical Studies and Physics. I was on the Division III tennis team there for two years as well. I pride myself on patience and empathy no matter what I teach, whether it feeling the pulse of a complicated drum groove or solving a challenging physics word problem. For music lessons, I strive to bring in a context of genre fluidity and history, so that a student knows where and what to explore on their own even when I am not in the room to show them. Overall, my teaching is all about inspiring students to do well and make their strengths work for them, rather than dryly coming up with the "right answer" or playing a tune the "right way" to get from point A to point B.

Noga is all-around the best musical instructor I have ever had. What makes her lessons special is her passion for teaching and for music. She motivated me to challenge myself on the bass both through her creative exercises and supportive charisma. On top of that, Noga is a true master of the bass guitar. She has an immediately recognizable groove that you can hear whenever she plays, and her skill is incredibly wide-ranging. Our lessons have touched on driving rock, jazz walking bass, and ambient soundscapes to name a few, and she is very open to delve into new musical territory together if you have any questions on how to achieve a certain sound. Every lesson with her will have a great impact on your playing.
