Started with some basics and built on that. Was very helpful in showing me tuning, proper hand positioning, and how to improve my fingering (those pesky notes). Got a lot for the first class and enough homework to keep me busy! Will be meeting again next week.

Beginner-
We will go straight into learning chords & Rhythm and how to play those chords "clean" (sounding properly) and in "time" (the musical tempo of music). From there you will learn to play groups of chords one after another and how it will teach you to create your own music and also show you how certain groups of chords you learn to play are in the music you are already listen to. After that we will learn to develop your listening ear to hear a song and how to "play by ear" and read chord charts.

Intermediate: You will learn how to play one chord many different ways on the guitar. This is called "voicings." You will then learn the many voicing of all the guitar chords. You will learn different rhythms, and odd time. You will also learn extended chords and the theory behind them. Know the difference between A6/9 A9 Amaj9? That's what you'll learn. You will learn all the scales and how to solo. Plus Modes and how you can playing them when playing over a chord progression.

Hi! My name is Vaughn Chung, and I’m the founder and lead instructor of The Chung Method.

As a young adult, I began to take guitar lessons from some incredible local talents. I began to hone my skills with a more structured approach with Houston Community College’s guitar program and with music theory classes at the University of Houston. I did session work for artists representing many different music genres, played guitar for my local church, performed at weddings, and started my own music projects. Paper Gliders happens to be the indie rock band that I founded and also co-write in!

I founded my business as Chung Music Academy in 2014 on a mission of delivering education that could make sense to anyone, from curious children, bedroom warriors, and people that are on the fence on learning something new. I have been recognized as a “Top Pro” on Thumbtack for 7 years straight, and I also direct the guitar program at Fortissimo Yamaha Music School. My passion for music is at the root

About Vaughn

Hello and welcome! Our music academy is based in Houston, but we are now offering private lessons remotely across the United States. I educate students of all levels, anywhere from reading music notation/tablature, applying practical music theory, and playing your favorite pieces of music. Alongsi

Starting on violin 15 years ago, my journey through musicianship has been thorough and enriching. I have made a point from day one to understand all forms of music from several angles, from the intuitive "natural" approach, to the more theoretical, all the way to understanding the physics of sound and sound cognition. While this many angled approach came purely from my passion for music, 6 years ago when I started teaching it became my most valuable tool.
As a teacher, I use my wide and multifaceted understanding to best craft lessons to serve your learning style to learn whatever it is you want to learn!
Teaching from my personal studio also provides me with the advantage of being able to make professional quality play along tools in real time, which you will then have access to after your lesson, boosting your personal practice time in a way that suits you!

About Chase

Hello! I am an experienced guitar and bass player, with extensive recording and performance history. In the 15 years I've played guitar, I have been teaching for the last 6 and it is one of my favorite outlets of music. I absolutely love sharing my craft and finding what it takes to get a student

Chase's compassion for the arts is contagious. My son learned so much from Chase over the last year both in person and digitally when the virus shut everything down. His ability to transition in difficult times is amazing. If you are looking for passion, patience, and raw talent, he is a perfect match!
Kate
My son loves his weekly lessons with Chase! Chase has been fantastic and is always willing to listen to what my son wants to learn and incorporate it into his lessons. I can not recommend him enough!

Chase is an amazing music teacher. He tailors lessons to each individual student to enhance their learning based on their skills. Over the course of 2 years he taught my son who had no experience in bass guitar, how to play and helped him perform in multiple rock band groups. Above all, he is patient, kind and truly enjoys teaching.

"I have been taking lessons with Jimmy for 3 months now and have learned so much in that time. I was excited to learn the acoustic guitar, but a bit nervous since I have never taken any type of musical lesson or have ever had any success with learning an instrument. Jimmy's patience and fun personality put me at ease right away. I am an elementary teacher of over 20 years, so I could tell that I had made the right choice in coming to Jimmy for lessons. Jimmy takes the time to teach music theory, which I appreciate, and answers any questions that have. He is a very dedicated musician whose experience and knowledge become apparent as he teaches his students, and when you view his studio. He is very reliable, always getting back to me quickly when I correspond with him. If I have had to change lesson days due to weather or family commitments, he is always understanding and flexible. I highly recommend him to other perspective students and look forward to growing as a musician with him as my teacher!"

"I've been taking guitar lessons from Ahmad for about 2 1/2 years now and I couldn't be happier with the quality of his instruction. He really understands that learning an instrument, and music in general, is more just than just learning technical proficiency but all about learning a new language, which requires a very holistic approach to teaching. Ahmad does an excellent job of providing me with the tools to improve my technical ability, understand music theory, and read music, all of which has made me a much more well rounded musician. He also does a terrific job of structuring his teaching around your musical interests, influences, and ambitions. I would recommend him to beginner, intermediate, and advanced musicians alike."

"I've met James weekly for the past five weeks and I'm very happy with the experience. I'm new to acoustic guitar and these are my first lessons - James is patient and teaches the basics about the instrument, music theory and introduces chords, movement and reading in a way that logically builds. He is approachable and in tune (pun intended) with my learning curve. I look forward to each lesson and learning to play a little better each week!"

"I’m a peer of Matt’s. Matt is very knowledgeable about all things guitar. He specializes in heavy metal and harmonic minor lead guitar, but can show you much more than just that. I’ve seen Matt use alternate tunings like Led Zepelin or Rolling Stones do to create something completely different sounding than standard tuning. I substitute for him on occasion, and his students are on a method book and a song to play each week. Students showed me what they were working on, and it appeared Matt wrote out every song the student was interested in week to week. From my experience as a teacher, this helps the student stay motivated to play and continue their practicing/studies if they genuinely like the song they are working on."

"Wes travelled to my home at an affordable rate for us and taught our son Paul lessons. To be honest, at first I was hesitant because my son was only 7 years old so I wasn't sure if I should just wait until he's older, but I'm glad we chose to start him early. Now he is much further along than I would have expected! Thanks Wes!"
