I teach both flat pick and finger style acoustic guitar including basic Travis picking.
About Bernadette
I hold both my BM and MA degree in Music Education, and Jazz guitar was my major instrument in college. My focus is to teach techniques, skills and concepts for life-long learning.
I am currently available to teach Guitar, Music Theory and Beginner Piano.
Aside from teaching private guitar and piano lessons and teaching General music and Chorus in school, I perform and accompany singers as a guitarist in churches on Long Island.
For your added security, I've been VIRTUS trained with the Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre and fingerprinted with the NYS Education department.
My system of guitar training includes:
* Right hand and Left hand technical exercises geared towards developing coordination and confidence;
*
* Fretboard navigation, pick-control and fingerstyle techniques.
* Song repertoire knowledge and memorization
*Solo guitar interpretation of popular songs as well as accompaniment styles appropriate for backing your or another's voice;
*Ear-training and Music theory is incorporated into each lesson.
NYSSMA preparation is available for both Classical and Jazz auditions.
Piano lessons are available with concentration in proper hand mechanics and technique, theory, ear-training and music reading. NYSSMA preparation up through level 4 is available.
*** Lesson Details ***
My guitar lessons follow a structured format. I begin with technical exercises for both the picking/strumming hand and the fretting hand, leading to good sound production. As students learn to achieve well-balanced tones, they learn to apply that to the written page using standard music notation and the TAB system. From single notes, students learn to build harmony, (chords), from 2 notes, to 3, and thereafter, 4. Song repertoire is built from a variety of sources including published method books. Memorization of song repertoire is stressed.
After the student has learned the notes and scales in the first position as well as the associated chords, he/she can learn songs of his/her choosing from the Folk, Pop, Classical and Jazz repertoire that is appropriate to his/her current level.
Piano method books used include the Dozen-A-Day and Hanon technique exercises as well as the Schaum and Michael Aaron method book series'.
NYSSMA training/coaching is available for both piano and guitar with suitable training beginning a least a year before the NYSSMA audition is to take place.
The Guitar student should have a good quality guitar, (steel strings, nylon strings, or steel-string electric) professionally set-up with light-gauged strings (for the beginners), a strap, a music stand, and time and space in the home in order to encourage a daily routine of practice.
The Piano student should have daily access to a piano or keyboard instrument with weighted keys in order to be able to practice lesson material daily.
For young students, a practice chart is given where a student is to mark his/her practice time in order for progress to be made.
*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a dedicated room in my home that is set up for private practice and teaching. It has an electronic piano, folding chairs, a music stand and guitar amplifiers and cables.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring an acoustic guitar with me to all out-going lessons so that I can play along with the student and demonstrate techniques as necessary. I bring extra blank sheets of music writing paper, fret board diagrams, and study sheets, as well as extra copies of the books I use most frequently. I can purchase books/materials for the student, with the student's or parent/guardian's reimbursement, or the student may purchase materials on their own.
*** Specialties ***
Pick-style and finger-style guitar, both acoustic and electric; music reading, music theory; re-harmonization and arrangement techniques to make a song your own!

My classes are very flexible when it comes to what the student wants. On the first class, I give the student the choice of controlling our lessons materials about what they want to learn. Or the student can choose to let me control our classes, in which I will bring my own materials and ideas in which we should work and will go through the whole academic process of learning music.
About Marcelo
*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are very relaxed and we will focus on ways to practice and getting the student to learn what he/she wants. Some people just want to come and learn a few tunes, some want to really learn the instrument and practice all the time. It all depends on the individual and I`m more than ready to adapt for each one of my students with the methods I have.
On our first class we will spend some time discussing what are the goals of the student and I will formulate a good plan so we can reach those goals in no time
I usually have 3 main paths that the student can choose.
1st - Learn the instrument enough so you can play your favorite songs and have fun with friends.
2nd(most requested) - Learn the instrument from scratch. Study technique, repertoire, a little of reading and music theory and learn how to improvise. This will allow the person to have their own tools to study on their own after attending classes with me.
3rd - Usually people who have been playing before like this one. We will go deep in music theory, ear training, reading, improvising and technique. Always leaning challenging tunes that will develop the student skills. This one allows the student to follow a professional path on the future, or maybe go into a music college.
*Location
Classes can take place at my studio or at your own location with an extra fee for transportation.
*Under 18 students
For children under 18 parents are more than welcome to stay for the classes, tell me if there is any specific goal you are looking for or talk about any subject that you might want.
*AUDITION PREP
I also help people to prepare for auditions. For this subject, I will tell you how to get ready for an audition. If you are trying to get in a college I have many contacts around the country and know how most auditions work and can help you with any question there might be. For auditions for orchestras or band we can work on repertoire and behavior to get you ready and all set to get accepted.

Most importantly through our 7 years together, became was able to take me from a very shy musician to someone who was very confident on stage playing at different bars. Peter went from being a teacher to a very close friend as he helped me grow. Although I do not take lessons with him anymore due to being away at college, I keep in touch with Peter every time I am home.
I would highly recommend Peter to anyone at any level guitar playing. He has the patience someone needs if you're just starting out and the expertise to help take even some of the best players to the next level.

Hi there, I'm Dan. I've been playing guitar as my main instrument for 16 years, as well as Bass, Ukulele, Piano, and Vocals. Music is my passion, and I cannot imagine a better way of devoting my time than spreading the gift of this amazing craft.
I've been giving one-on-one musical instruction since 2012, beginning at the Oceanside School of Music and then transitioning to private lessons. I pride myself on the ability to cater each lesson to every student's individual needs, tastes, and goals. Someone once told me, "the goal of the teacher is to make themselves obsolete," and I couldn't agree more. Whether you've never picked up a guitar before or want to perfect your already advanced technique, I'll be here to make sure you achieve your goals and have fun learning.
About Daniel
I have years of extensive jazz and music theory training on guitar and bass.

Hello there! My name is Mikel Barandiaran, I'm a Spanish singer-songwriter, producer, arranger, composer and a million things more that has to do with music. But that is not important right now, you are the important individual in this conversation. I want to tell you a bit about why I'm here:
I feel music everywhere, in movement, noise, people, nature, animals, silence, etc. It would be an understatement to put music into a category of comparisson with other things for me, because is basically my natural state of appreciation towards life. But, I can say something: I just want to help the world listen to that music, that is everywhere. I want the chance to help you get into the world of music, I will teach you to learn about your own musical ability and influences. I'm not going to impose a genre, style, technique to you. I want to help you discover your own path and we will go on your own pace. Luis Alberto Spinetta, one of my favorite musicians, once said that we are just bridges

Acoustic Guitar Lesson Reviews from Students
Students are raving about their Acoustic Guitar instructors on TakeLessons. Check out some of these recent reviews.
Can't wait for my next lesson!"
I knew nothing about guitar, music theory, scales, chords, etc...nothing! I was nervous and overwhelmed about learning and studying it all. I've been taking lessons for about three months now and within the first month, I was already learning scales and chords. Jimmy's structure is very efficient and thorough and tries to make the learning process easier for his students to understand.
As a person, Jimmy is cool, laid back and very down to earth. He's very flexible if you need to re-schedule a lesson. He's always available by phone/text or email if you have any questions or if you're stuck trying to figure something out. The stuff he teaches and the advice he gives will definitely help you apply it for when you perform or jam with other musicians. A quote he repeatedly says has stuck to me: "It's not about practice, practice, practice...it's about WHAT you practice." And it's true. Jimmy will teach you how to be a trained musician, not just an average guitar player.
Even though it's only been three months, I've learned so much! I really look forward to where I'll be in the next few months/years. He's also giving me the opportunity to get back into drumming! I'm very glad I decided to take lessons with Jimmy!"
