About David
I am a 20 year musician with 11 years teaching experience. Born and raised in New York City, I attended Laguardia high school for music and art and afterward Queens College majoring in music. My main instruments are Clarinet, Drums, and Saxophone, but i also have a strong background in Piano, Trumpet, and Flute. I've taken private music lessons for the past 15 years with world class musicians, among them David Weber and Howard Hirsch. I've performed in every major concert hall in New York City, including Carnegie Hall when i was only 11 years old. I performed alongside many famous musicians, including the late Tito Puente.

My teaching includes all aspects of music; Musical theory, sight singing, as well as Music History. My teaching style allows the child to have fun while they learn their instrument, but I emph
asize a strong practice regiment. Your child will understand that while learning music and an instrument can be fun, there will be some work involved if they want to become great. I usually use either the Alfred or Rubank method books to supplement a curriculum that I tailor make for each individual student. Any question or confusion a student has about anything during the lesson will be explained in detail and dealt with until he/she understands the concept. I've had many students pass all levels of the ABRSM and NYSSMA exams as well as receive academic scholarships for musical excellence.

My 11 year old son son has had 4 lessons with David. He is fabulous. He immediately found out my sons personal interests and has been working with music that my son enjoys. At the same time he is teaching him the importance of basic skills and routines that he needs to establish, in order to learn how to play an instrument. I highly recommend him.

I studied piano at the University of Central Florida and can teach classical piano, music notation, sight reading, harmonic theory, scales, arpeggios, chord progressions, and improvisation. I'm happy to share my skills and expertise with novice players of all ages.

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.

With over 10 years teaching and performance experience, I can help you reach your piano goals. I teach students how to read music while including the basics of playing by ear. This will help them to be versatile musicians that can function in different arenas.

About Cindy
Regardless of where your musical interests lie, I can help you improve your skills! Growing up, I fell in love with playing and singing all styles of music! I've delved into classical, jazz, R&B, soul, gospel, reggae, soca, pop and musical theater, and I can teach you how to apply proper technique to the genre(s) of your choice!

If you're looking to become a better singer, we will focus on finding the beauty and power in your voice in a healthy manner. Vocal health is an important component of everything I teach, and I work to eliminate strain and vocal fatigue. We will work on balancing your vocal registers to give you control over the troublesome middle range. With a healthy foundation in place, we will fine tune your skills by addressing pitch accuracy, vocal control, phrasing, dynamics, expression and microphone technique.

If y
ou're interested in playing piano, you will learn how to read music and/or play by ear. You'll learn scales, chords, arpeggios, sight-reading, and basic music theory. For singers who are interested in piano, I've developed a great technique to teach you how to accompany yourself.

For songwriters, I can help you write stronger lyrics and set them to music appropriately.

In general, I'm pretty upbeat and fun. However, I expect you to practice. When you practice, you hear and feel the difference and everyone's happy! If you don't practice, you'll remain in the same place, and it's frustrating for everyone. :( Please, please, please practice! :)

My degree in music education and wide range of experience allows me to accommodate different learning styles. I have a knack for breaking down seemingly difficult or mysterious concepts in a way that's easy to understand. I also understand the demands of being a full time musician, and can offer advice to students who are interested in going that route.

I would love to help you enhance your enjoyment of music by making it fun and easy for you to learn!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright piano
Yamaha keyboard
Music Stand
Full length mirror
Library of great music

When I first started taking singing lessons, I thought there was no way I could really ever be able to sing. Cindy has helped me to do things that I didn't think possible - sing in key, sing different notes, and relax and enjoy it. I would give her 6 stars if I could!

Cindy is no doubt the ONE when it comes to piano and voice lessons. I have had piano and vocal lessons with other previous instructors in the past, but often felt discouraged, misunderstood and frustrated. However, Cindy literally brought my passion for piano and singing back to life! She's extremely knowledgeable and passionate in her expertise, and she's FUN! I look forward to each and every lesson. I have been taking lessons with Cindy for almost a year now, it's the best decision I have made, and looking forward to many more. I've seen the improvement in both my piano and singing techniques, and learned so much. She is an inspiration to work with and committed to helping you achieve your goals as long as you put in the work and practice. Cindy is invested in your results and growth, once you start you can't stop.

I teach beginners and intermediates. I teach students how to read music and proper techniques. As well as learning chords and how to read lead sheets and etc.

About Justin
Hey Guys (and girls lol). I'm Justin! I am a graduate from Five Towns College with a BA in Music Performance and soon i plan to move on to getting my Masters in Music Education at Lehman College in the Bronx. I'm a Vocal major with a minor in piano. I've been studying music for the past 9 years. Someday my dream is to be a Private Instructor in Atlanta, GA and on the side I dream of singing Jazz in cabarets, cafe's etc. As a singer, I've been trained both classically with a lot of background in theater and jazz, and as a pianist, classically, reading music and etc, although i have a background teaching jazz such as reading chords and etc.

I am an extremely dorky, funny and confident person. I love making my students feel comfortable and confident with what they want to accomplish. Its more than just regular lesson, but a chance to open
up and shine to be the musician you are!

Lastly, I am very flexible. I will try my best to make lessons that will not strain any schedule.

I've been taking lessons from Tommaso for about 7 months and he is exactly what I had hoped to find in a teacher. He's very personable and does a great job of tailoring the lessons around what the student wants to get out of them. When I started, he made it a point to find out the type of music that I listen to and am interested in playing, as well as what skills I was hoping to gain.

As an adult taking beginner's lessons, I can say that Tommaso is very patient and takes the time to answer any questions that I have, whether or not they're important to the lesson at that time. He's done an excellent job of teaching me music theory from the ground up, and often shares insightful examples that help me to better understand the concepts at the heart of the lesson. He's also extremely considerate and polite, always asking if I would like something to drink before we start a lesson and never troubled when I reschedule or cancel lessons on short notice.

At 24 years old, I never thought that'd I'd be sight-reading music and playing piano (somewhat) capably - but I am thanks to Tommaso! And I look forward to continuing to learn from him.

I have been teaching piano for fifteen years. I currently teach in two studios in Manhattan, as well as at a private day school. I also teach in-home lessons.

About David
For the last fifteen years, I have taught piano lessons to children, college students, amateurs, and Grammy award-winning professionals. I started teaching while working on my masters degree at The Juilliard School. Since then, I have performed throughout the United States and earned a doctoral degree in piano performance, but these days most of what I do is teach. I am classically trained, though I have worked with students on a range of musical styles. I get tremendous satisfaction from helping my students overcome their challenges. Regardless of the age or experience that a student brings, my goal is to help make piano playing personally enriching and musically satisfying.

Here are the qualities I think you should look for in a teacher and the ways in which I think I offer them.

MUSICALITY
A teacher should have an ear for what
makes music colorful and beautiful. You are welcome to listen to some of my recordings at https://soundcloud.com/david-shimoni-piano. I believe that the goal of musicians should be to attune our inner ears to the music behind the notes that sit on a page before us and then let that music flow through us. We all hear different qualities in the notes, but as long as we honestly try to get inside the notes before we touch our instrument, we can all make beautiful music.

TECHNIQUE
Once we have an idea of the way we want the music to sound, we need technique to produce those sounds. Early in my training, I experienced discomfort from the poor way in which I was playing. As a result, I had to retrain myself completely. I was fortunate enough to find three teachers of the Taubman Approach who helped me to understand the connections between playing in a coordinated way and playing beautifully. As a result of having made many mistakes myself and then overcoming them, I have developed the ability to see what is holding back my students and to help them find better ways of approaching the piano.

MATERIALS
The best music for students is the music that motivates them to practice. That said, at certain times, I think some pieces will help a student get to the next level, and others will only tie the student in knots. I have taught a lot of repertoire in a variety of styles. I can give students at any level music that is appropriate for them. I am also always eager to work on music that my students bring me.

To give students skills that directly apply to their playing, I also incorporate theory, ear training, sight reading, and scales into lessons.

INSTRUMENT
Although I have no qualms about teaching students who have electric keyboards, acoustic instruments give better aural feedback to pianists about the health of their technique. At least once a week I make sure my students get to play on an instrument that responds to their efforts with a beautiful sound: either my own 1913 Steinway B, or one of a variety of good grand pianos at the midtown studio where I teach.

PRACTICE METHODS
Students can expect to learn a lot in their lessons, but lessons usually only happen once a week. The quality and quantity of the student’s practice the rest of the week is critical. At each point in the process of learning a piece, there are different practice methods that help a pianist get to the next step. I think I can see where students are in the learning process and can guide their practice so that their time spent at home is optimized.

PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE
Many students enjoy playing music for themselves, but when they are asked to play for others, the joy of the experience turns into fear of embarrassment. There is no quick and easy solution to performance anxiety, but having worked through it in hundreds of performances, I can say there are certainly ways to reduce it and even make performing joyful. Understanding that playing for others is an experience of sharing, not “impressing,” and practicing in a way that helps one to see, hear, and feel the music the instant before one plays it are at the core of my method.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
I teach children and adult students. I do not force anyone to perform, though I encourage it. I am a member of two associations of independent piano teachers that sponsor recitals and competitions for my young students. My adult students and I usually get together at my apartment twice a year for a piano-food-fest.

FLEXIBILITY
Ultimately, there is no single way to teach all students. Students come to me with different degrees of musical training, physical awareness and dexterity, musical tastes, discipline, and patience. It is my job to figure out what will light each student’s fire and help them to practice through their challenges so that they can enjoy the beautiful and all-consuming experience of making music.

I invite you to try a lesson.

I had a great experience taking piano lessons from David. After several years away from the piano, I wasn't entirely sure where to start. David took me back to the beginning and focused on fundamentals and technique. Not only did this improve my playing, but it also helped me develop awareness of areas that I could work on when I practiced. I found David to be a wonderful teacher who teaches a good balance of technique and artistry, and I would take lessons with him again.

Lessons with David were my favorite time of the week during college. He worked on both basic techniques and finer details and nuances, which made the lessons very creatively satisfying. As a student, I hold him in the highest regard. If you haven't signed up for a lesson, you're missing out!

I always wanted to learn how to play the piano and it wasn't until the age of 29 that I decided that there was no better time than now to start taking lessons. As a beginner, I am so thankful to have David as my teacher. He stressed the importance of technique even though he knows that I just really want to learn how to play so I could show off at a dinner party. Without this, I wouldn't have progressed as quickly as I have. He is incredibly patient, which is what I like most about him as a teacher. Given that I started with David as a true beginner, he had to go over the same things repeatedly, for months on end, and he was never once impatient. He also thinks about his students outside of his lessons and that speaks volumes. I only like certain types of music and am quite stubborn about only playing what I like. He not only understands this but will send me links to songs and brings pieces of music to our lesson because I often have difficulty finding pieces that I like or that are the right fit for my skill level.

If it weren't for David's steadfast positivity, his kindness and his genuine desire to see me grow and learn as a piano player, I would not still be taking lessons from him three plus years later. Luckily for me, that is not the case and I look forward to having many more lessons with him. I highly recommend David as a teacher!

I feel I've learned a lot studying with Greg Matteson. My lessons were very enjoyable and always interesting. They were also productive, because my practicing was productive - I always knew exactly how I was supposed to practice. This seems so obvious, but sometimes teachers don't give enough specific instructions, and you don't make as much progress. I mainly wanted classical, but we also did a little jazz and chords/theory. I appreciated that he offered this. Highly recommend!

I believe learning is an art and each student has their own canvas to paint! As sometimes lessons will be more structured than others - especially to beginners - my method of teaching highlights what is most important to the students. While students may pick songs to his/her liking, I will provide information so the student knows the song inside and out and develop enough confidence they can create variations to songs they are familiar with!

About Andrea
I am a classically-trained pianist that has played the piano for 22 years. I began when I was 4 years old and have not stopped since! After graduating from Rhapsody Academy for Music in Elizabeth, NJ, I began teaching at after school centers. Most recently, I started teaching private lessons, where I currently teach 15 students, ages 4-15, music lessons, theory, and history. My focus as a teacher is allowing the child to dictate their education - with my supervision to facilitate each lesson. Every class is exciting, practical, and engaging, as the students use the most available resources to help them learn and understand the basics behind each song. I love working with children and allowing them to make decisions at a young age, so they can build their confidence and understand that hard work is a very rewarding process. Students ar
e encouraged to strengthen their skills through finger exercises, learning scales and chord progressions, and etudes.
