My love affair with the piano began when I was a boy, learning classical repertoire on my childhood upright. 25 years later, I still haven't stopped reaching for the sky in terms of technique, comprehension and connection to this, the most important instrument on our planet.

About Oliver
Hi, I'm Oliver Devine E, a professional musician currently residing in north Brooklyn.

I graduated from NYU in 2005 with a degree in theory and composition (after completing 2 years as a jazz performance major). I played in the rock bands Arpline and The Kiss Off and recorded for Universal Records with the super group Pure Love. I currently record and perform under the monikers Aeolian, Negation, Afterworldsmen, Sandglass and Marlowe Dies as well as performing live with the post-punk band Cloak.

I've been teaching both piano and music theory lessons since 2006 and have had great success with students, several of which I have forged mentor-student relationships with. With my vast knowledge of esoteric and popular music genres (I'm comfortable with folk, death metal, modern jazz, indie rock, hip-hop... well, you get the point. I'm a
music obsessive) I believe becoming a total musician should be a goal for any student but I enjoy the challenge that each individual brings to the table.

I'm currently attending Hunter college to get a Master's degree in Music Education (K-12).

*** Lesson Details ***
In the past I've tailored lessons based on the specific needs of my students.
For example: someone who can read music based on childhood experience, but is struggling to regain confidence, could use technical exercises, piece-learning w/ structure and theory insights, as well as genre work outside their comfort zone. For a total beginner, reading music might be a long haul; so strategies for learning simple tunes and more general theory insights are a must.

Curriculum I commonly use for piano/theory includes, Hannon, easier Bach repertoire, Beethoven/Mozart/Chopin/etc,, The Jazz Piano book, Tonal Harmony, This is Your Brain on Music. Because of my extensive relationship with a wealth of texts, I never just rest on my laurels and will find the right material for you (even if that means printing or e-mailing pages from my own collection)

I'm fairly laid back compared to many teachers, but as a forward thinking, well-rounded musician (music is my life) I will revel in pushing students to max out their potential, no matter what their experience level.

*** Studio Equipment ***
High-end digital stage piano, midi keyboards, music software, guitars, sax, trumpet, snare drum, small studio set-up (microphone, interface, etc).

*** Specialties ***
Very adept at explaining music theory and the dissemination of practical information into piano lessons. The solo piano repertoire from the 18th through late 20th century is another specialty. The students I've had most success with range from absolute beginners to advanced professionals, but all seem to have a broad range of music interests and curiosity for improvement.

I have only had a few lessons so far, but I am enjoying them. Oliver is very willing to rehearse music of your interest and is very helpful with any concerns you may have. He pushes you out of your comfort zone just enough and I feel that I am definitely growing as a musician. Great experience so far.

I've been taking piano lessons with Oliver for about a year now, and in just one year, my love and ability to play piano has surpassed my expectations. Oliver creates his lesson plan based on the individual's needs, and adjusts his teaching to match the students capacity to learn, making for a fun, relaxed, and comprehensive lesson each time.

Oliver has helped me not only understand theory, which helps with composing music, but also how to read and play sheet music. Like anything, you only get better with practice, but having a great teacher to guide you along the way makes all the difference.

I would recommend Oliver to any individual seeking to enhance his/her ability to play, read and/or write music, whether you are a beginner or an advanced musician.

With over 8 years of teaching experience, extensive performing experience, competition prizes, and a Master's degree in piano performance, I not only have substantial knowledge and skill to share with my students of all ages and levels, but patience and clarity with which to communicate those ideas. I form individual curriculums for each of my students based on what they want to achieve, so their paths range from solely classical to pop and rock to original compositions. No matter what the goal, I strive to ensure that my students have a strong foundation so that they can always enjoy their acquired musical skills.

Nicole is awesome. She adapts lessons to match your skill level, nurtures proper and useful technique (while pinpointing and discouraging bad habits early on), and encourages you the whole way through. She teaches with enthusiasm and knowledge above expectations, and gets you excited for the work, incorporating theory and composition into her lessons. Highly recommended.

I feel so lucky to find Amanda as my son's first piano teacher. She is great with kids and make my 3 year old boy fall in love with piano now through her great teaching skills and interesting "animal story books" designed specifically for young children to learn piano. It's been only 2 months since Ethan's first piano class with her, and he's already playing with both hands and a lot of kids songs like "twinkle twinkle little star", "London bridge is falling down", "old McDonald had a farm"...Thank you Amanda!

About Susannah
Hello! I am a piano teacher living and working in the Richmond area. I have 19 years of experience playing piano.

As someone who has had literally hundreds of piano lessons, I can appreciate what makes a lesson "good". I remember as a kid always feeling bad for my friends who dreaded going to their music lessons. I was lucky to have wonderful teachers and enjoy my experience studying and playing music.

As a teacher, I am committed to making sure my students have the same positive experience. I take having  fun seriously with my students whether they are 5 or 50. Playing the piano has way too many benefits to become a chore! I have high expectations for my students and help them reach their goals in a low-key, non-stressful, pleasant environment.

*** Lesson Details ***
My students are often young beginners. We have a lot of fun
navigating through the process of learning to read music and play songs that they enjoy. Learning to read music and understand theory are both elements I strongly emphasize. I am always open to looking for specific pieces or styles that students want to play. Sometimes students just want to learn how to play one complicated piece and that's fine too!

I like both Thompson and Alfred as curriculum and often substitute along the way with sheet music that compliments the book we work from. I work to customize my approach for each individual so that they can have the most effective and enjoyable experience possible as they learn to play the piano.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I teach from my apartment. I have a full size electric piano with weighted keys. There is always plenty of space for parents and/or younger siblings to sit if they wish to stay during the lesson.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide books and any other teaching materials (chalkboard, laptop etc). Students need to have a piano or electric keyboard in cases where I am traveling to their house.

*** Specialties ***
Classical with an emphasis on being able to read music from the beginning.

About Aaron
I am an enthusiastic accompanist, performer, and teacher, engaged in projects ranging from Early Baroque figured bass, to 20th-century classical chamber music, to Broadway and Folk. As a pianist I have performed in Switzerland, England, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are tailored to your needs, so we will discuss goals, methods, and practicing strategies to keep you excited, directed, and successful.
For beginning pianists, I use a variety of piano methods, including Faber, Bryanskaya, 4-hand repertoire, and my own materials. I also take advantage of my training in the Dalcroze Eurhythmics approac

In Mr. Aaron's class, piano playing, understanding of music, music theory and the culture of music are nicely combined. I've learned playing piano before, but have never been so happy and learning so much.

Despite being a singer, I am a classically trained pianist first! I love the piano, and it brings me nothing but joy these days. I love to teach basic to intermediate piano technique. It gives a great sense of variety to my roster, and I will show you so many fascinating techniques and approaches that I have discovered over the years.

About Kiyan
Hello, and thank you for reading!

My name is Kiyan, I am a classically, contemporarily and pop-music trained singer, music director, recording artist, composer, and teacher.

I have studied music of all genres very intensely, including everything from early Baroque technique, opera, musical theater (golden age to contemporary), gospel music, pop music, rock music, all the way to every single Beyoncé riff.

I am currently a full time recording artist and performer. Teaching is the best way to spend my free time. I LOVE having open minded people come to me so I can really show them how to get the best sound out of their bodies. To me, teaching is as much a spiritual, social and mental exercise as it is musical.

I can help you sound as good as you can. I've cured tone deafness countless times, and I have a strong theoretical bac
kground as a pianist for which to fill your brain with information. And we will have so much fun. :)

Cheers, and love!
