I am an active professional singer with six years of teaching experience in both voice and piano. While my degrees specialize in vocal performance, I have studied piano privately for over 10 years. My students include a range of levels and ages who vary in musical aspirations and backgrounds. My students are given every opportunity to become well-rounded, performing musicians when studying with me. I am a friendly, open-minded, enthusiastic musician who loves teaching others!

About Elise
I am a professional, classically trained soprano with a love for theater and the arts! In addition to being a performer, I also love teaching music lessons. My private vocal studio includes a range of students from young children to adults, who vary in musical aspirations and sing in many different styles, including opera, art song, jazz, blues, pop, and musical theater. My students have gone on to sing on Broadway, pursue music and theater degrees, compete and win competitions. I have extensive training and knowledge of proper vocal use, as well as a passion for teaching my students self expression through music. My students are given every opportunity to become well-rounded, performing musicians, and my goal is to give students the tools to become life long, passionate musicians themselves!

Elise is an incredible voice coach! She listens close to your vocal needs and helps you achieve the vocal aspirations. I worked with Elise for a little more than nine months and my range, tone, and technique improved so much. By far best vocal coach I've ever had.

The piano is often referred to as the instrument every musician should start off learning. The way it is laid out makes it very easy to see how music works and fits together. In lessons, we'll be sure to cover all the basics of technique, rhythm, harmony and melody and even theory to ensure a solid foundation to build upon. I tend to teach these concepts through the use of various etude/method books as well as listening exercises to ensure a well rounded approach to learning in order to become a more well rounded musician.

About Bill
Bill is multi-instrumentalist, jazz musician, composer, arranger and educator. He developed a strong connection to music early in life through some family tradition, encouraging parents and many inspiring and influential teachers. He has gone on to perform alongside a number of noteworthy artists and ensembles and has toured extensively overseas and throughout North America.

His love for music came to life though performances with several ensembles in public school, regional big bands and his own jazz saxophone quartet. He is a graduate of the Purchase College Conservatory of Music's Jazz Studies program and has recently become a graduate of New Jersey City University's M.M. Multiple Woodwind Performance program.

Following two years performing abroad on cruise ships and the national tour of Young Frankenstein: The Musical, he was dr
awn back to New York City. Performing regularly on piccolo, flute, alto flute, clarinet, bass clarinet and all saxophones, he is proving to be valued asset in the NYC music scene.

Bill performs regularly with his group, Bill Todd and the Sixth Generation, while also working as a Broadway pit musician, a sideman and a private music teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
Every student is unique, therefore, lessons are designed to fit the student individually. My teaching style is molded to satisfy each students wants and needs. I also like to focus on developing proper playing habits. I see it as my job to help my students understand and develop the proper techniques to eliminate bad habits in order for them to be the best they can be on their instrument. Lessons are about having fun making music, learning, and improving.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Chairs, music stands and keyboard for harmonic discussions.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to bring their own music notebook and their own instrument. They may also need to purchase their own lesson books when the time comes.

*** Specialties ***
I can help my students learn how to play in a variety of styles ranging from classical (solos, chamber music, etudes, etc.) to jazz (improvisation, harmony, etc.). Whether they're working on a song to play at school, a NYSSMA or All County solo, or just learning for fun, I will help them play to the best of their ability.

Bill is great, and I would recommend him for players of all ages. I played flute in middle school and high school and wanted to get back into playing after having not touched my instrument for 15+ years. I found Bill on Take Lessons and was excited to begin lessons after reading his many glowing reviews. Although I was nervous about essentially having to start from scratch all over again with the flute, Bill has been kind, patient and lots of fun to work with. He is an extremely talented musician, and is very good at figuring out what I'm doing wrong with respect to air flow, embouchure, etc., and recommending how to correct it. Although I have a lot of work ahead of me I'm so enjoying playing again, and this time with much better sound, thanks to Bill!

Dan is an excellent instructor. My half hr per week under his guidance helps me develop good practice routines; learn music history, & theory. I don't even have to tell him what I've struggled with during my practice sessions (at home) Dan identifies those obstacles and provides tools for improvement. Quite an impressive pro in my estimation. Just what I need to continue my musical journey. Pretty nice guy also.

About Matthew
I have been playing professionally for over 30 years and have taught for over 10. I am proficient on keyboards, guitar, bass, ukelele, as well as lead and harmony vocals and songwriting. My focus is on developing your musical intuition through ear training, and accessing the music within. I have a home recording studio to help with the learning process. I provide a fun, safe, non-critical environment where you can access your inner musician in the most enjoyable way possible.

Many of my students have gone onto become prolific songwriters and musicians and have recorded albums. Even beginners can learn quickly from my method which emphasizes techniques for keeping learning music fun.

My 10th CD was released last year on Sojourn Records and was featured as NPR song of the day. Over the years my music has received much critical accl
aim as I have continued to tour the world. I have opened for legends such as David Bowie, Ron Sexsmith, Robyn Hitchcock, Morphine, Bob Mould, Freedy Johnston, among many others. I have produced over a dozen albums by other artists and songwriters, and composed for major motion pictures including last years film, WON’T BACK DOWN starring Maggie Gyllenhaal.

“In a career spanning more than 20 years, he has established himself as one of America's great under-the-radar songwriters. Had he emerged five decades back, he might have been a Tin Pan Alley stalwart, turning out intelligent, accessible songwriting with the clockwork genius of and Gary Goffin. His work is rife with the clever, incisive tunefulness that marked that era.”-- National Public Radio

*** Lesson Details ***
Students can expect to discover or re-discover their love for music and and their own natural musical inclinations. Many students report an increased sense of joy and possibility in their own lives. Curriculum depends on level of student, but is focused on being able to play favorite songs, develop comfort and ease in playing style, and accessing creativity and originality in approach. After 3 to 6 months working with me, most students can feel comfortable calling themselves a musician!

*** Specialties ***
I teach mainly guitar, keyboards, ukelele, and voice from beginning up to intermediate. I try to incorporate songwriting into the process as i find that it speeds up the process and helps to encourage enthusiasm and a more focused effort and better results. I am fluent in most styles but come from a folk, rock, country, pop background. I also have a home studio and use recording techniques to develop style and vocal ability.

Matt is an awesome teacher. He quickly assessed my skill level and met me there with new song covers, new strum patterns, and finger picking tutorials. As an intermediate ukulele-ist who's beginning to explore songwriting, I feel very fortunate to have crossed paths with Matt. He encourages me to share my work, and jams along, opening up rhythmic and harmonic possibilities I wouldn't think of on my own. In home recording technology is also a huge perk!

Hey!

I have worked in a private music school for 2 years and I currently work as an elementary school music teacher (in my 4th year). You can expect a teacher that will make you feel comfortable learning music and ensure that you have a good time doing so(music is meant to be fun!). I am certified K-12 in New York State and I have worked with students of all ages. Look forward to meeting you!

About Angel
Hi! I hold a Bachelors in Music from CUNY York College and I'm certified K-12 in NY state. I am in my 4th year as an elementary music teacher (K-4) at school in Brooklyn and I have also previously worked as a piano instructor at a private music school in Queens for 2 years.

Lessons that I provide are very practical and fun (I credit my young students for that). I do not like to waste my time, and I sure do not want you to waste yours. I believe anyone can play an instrument and I also believe it is never too late to start. I began playing at 18 years old and I have been fortunate to do what I do for a living.

At the end of the day, I want you to enjoy learning music as much as I enjoy teaching it!. Hope to see you soon!

*** Lesson Details ***
45 minutes: 30 minutes of playing and 15 minutes of theory work.
1 hour: 40 minut
es of playing and 20 minutes of theory work.

Homework given at the end of lesson to be due the following week. (I will always provide music and any other essentials).

The playing aspect is simply you showing me what you have practiced for the week (any good teacher knows if you have practiced or not). I move at the pace of my student. There is no rushing in music making.

Theory is practically the science of music. There are very important aspects to grasp for all ages, and I feel this area is neglected all too often in music education.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Yamaha full size keyboard (88 keys, weighted, hammer action)

Music stand, sheet music.

I play guitar as well, so I will use the guitar to accompany you at times when you are playing piano. It is important to illustrate how harmony is created. The guitar is a great tool for that.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If you choose to have lessons at your home then I expect you to have an instrument to play on. I do not bring any equipment with me.

*** Specialties ***
I play a variety of genres, but jazz is my specialty and is the genre I studied extensively as an undergrad.

I have always wanted to play the guitar but felt too intimidated. A friend told me about TakeLessons and I chose Marcin because he seemed to have a lot of different experiences with music.

Marcin was extremely professional and nice and made me feel at ease. He made it easy to ask questions and explained things really well for me. I took five lessons with him (I've been traveling and haven't been back yet) and was able to play a few songs. What I really like was Marcin's enthusiasm, which, for me, is really encouraging. He was interested in my goals and kept them in mind with each lessons. I could tell that he was preparing each lesson just for me and based on my progress and I felt that I could be honest with what I was doing. Totally recommend Marcin for lesson!

I use the "Little Mozarts" series with 4-7 year-old piano students, and prefer the "Bastien" method for the older kids. I intersperse the lessons with theory and listening exercises, and interpolate movement and outside songs to keep the lessons as fun as possible.

About Monica
I'm a performing artist and music teacher. I received my Bachelors and Masters degree in vocal performance at Boston's New England Conservatory, where I was a member of the jazz, classical, and third-stream departments. I also spent 8 years gigging in Berlin, Germany and teaching adults and teenagers. However, I've always also enjoyed working with kids; especially introducing them to music through piano, language, movement, role-playing, and singing. I have the most experience teaching piano, and I think it's the best instrument to start on, if you don't know much about music. But flute was my first instrument, and singing is my forte!

Been taking online singing classes with Candida for almost a year. She is wonderful and could not imagine a better teacher. She meets you where you are in terms of learning. She is very soulful in her teaching so she incorporates naturally using your instincts as well as combing technical techniques. I am so happy to continue with her. I would recommend her to anyone

Candida is the best music teacher I have come across, she is knowledgable, talented, supportive and constantly positive. She has helped me so much with my voice and ear training from a technical standpoint and more importantly as a mentor has been patient and supportive.
