Hello there! My name is Lauren, and I have over a decade of experience teaching violin. I earned my BM and MM degrees from Eastman School of Music in Violin Performance and perform regularly at venues such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center.
As a teacher, I adapt my teaching methods on-the-spot to introduce and reinforce concepts in a patient, enthusiastic, and creative manner tailored to each student. In addition to equipping my students with proper violin technique , students are empowered and develop their communication skills and confidence while fostering a lasting curiosity for learning and a genuine love for the imaginative and expressive capabilities of music.
Lessons generally focus on four major areas: scales, etudes, ensemble parts
(orchestra and chamber music), and solo repertoire. Music theory and ear-training activities supplement work in these areas. A portion of lesson-time is also devoted to preparing students for entrance and seating auditions, when applicable. In addition to weekly lessons, my students perform solos in recitals and are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular ensembles.
As a guest artist and educator, I've has given performances and worked with students at universities around the world, including Bard College; Berklee College of Music; Chinese University of Hong Kong; Cornell University; Dartmouth College; Eastman School of Music; Harvard University; Shanghai Conservatory; Universidade Federal do Paraná; University of Alaska, Anchorage; University of California, Berkeley; University of California, San Diego; and Wesleyan University.

Generally lessons are 60 minutes once a week. For younger students or adults on a budget, 45 minute lessons are available. 30 minute lessons are for students 8 and younger. If students have an upcoming concert/audition, or would simply like to progress faster, twice weekly lessons are available.

All of my students learn how to read music from the beginning of their playing. For addressing technique with young kids, she uses fun pneumonic devices such as "pizza box hand," "flamingo arm," and "umbrella fingers," to help students remember, identify, and visualize proper hand, arm, and finger placement. They practice note names and rhythm through singing and memorization games. With these activities, students practice at home on their own and advance weekly between lessons while developing a love for playing the violin.
Lauren is an amazing violin instructor to our 11 year old son. She is always on time, has a great way with kids, and really brought out his confidence. I over heard him in the lesson saying “ohhh, that’s how you do it.” Lauren is a highly accomplished musician and outstanding teacher. We highly recommend her to anyone.

When I first started studying with Lauren in 2017, I was a freshman in high school and stuck in the fifth stand of my orchestra. Six months later, I moved up to being the concert master. Lauren is amazing. She brings out the best in my playing. She has a great ear for music, she is an amazing violinist, and the best teacher I have ever had. With Lauren I was able to progress from 3rd position to 7th position in a short time. She is very kind and patient, and never gets frustrated with me (unlike all my other teachers). She is the reason I have been able to excel at violin. Best. Teacher. Ever.
I am a professional opera singer and native New Yorker. I am so excited to reach out to new and continuing students in NYC - for both voice and piano study at all levels from age 5/6 and up.
I am an active performer and I love to share my passions and knowledge with my students. I have 13+ years of individual one-on-one voice and piano teaching experience with students of all ages and abilities.

Primarily, I focus on classical/opera/musical theatre repertoire with my voice students. For stude
nts age 12-18, I emphasize a combination of folk songs, Disney, a limited selected pop music, and more. Ages 5-11 I use a combination of vocal method books for very young singers in addition to selected musical theatre and Disney songs.
My voice students have performed on and off Broadway, been nominated for NJ Paper Mill Playhouse's Rising Star Awards, have been accepted to pre-college musical theater programs on full scholarship, have earned multiple leading roles in high school musicals and plays, have performed major choral works at Carnegie Hall, have sung in church choirs and for weddings, and have released their own pop/rock albums.

Piano Lesson Details: We will primarily use Bastien method books, Faber Piano Adventures, Dozen A Day, and other supplemental material according to age and level of the student. Musicianship and theory skills are explored and nurtured in addition to acquiring a foundation of technique at the piano.
Voice Lesson Details: You will explore, re-awaken and nourish your creativity in music. Develop a solid foundation in vocal technique through effective tools and exercises based in the Bel Canto tradition (addressing breath, posture, alignment, an open throat, phonation, resonance, articulation, registration)
Address your personal practice/performance goals. Deepen self-awareness (body, aural, and emotional awareness), musicianship, interpretation, performance, and musicality
Learn a variety of repertoire, according to your needs and development
Cultivate your artistry for application in practice, audition, and performance settings

Nicole is a smart welcoming teacher with lots of patience when practicing with your voice. She gives great critique when needed but is still able to offer solutions to problems you might be experiencing with your voice. She has a positive attitude all around with no room for negativity. I am a licensed music teacher and board-certified music therapist. I began teaching private piano lessons in 2005 during my undergraduate degree. I attended William Paterson University and received a degree in music education. Upon graduating, I received the William Paterson University 2010 Outstanding Classical Performer award. In 2017 I earned an M.A. in music therapy from Montclair State University, where I was awarded the David Ott Scholarship for Outstanding Music Therapy Intern. Learning music therapy has given me deeper insight into my teaching. My favorite part of music is the learning process. I enjoy performing music, but I personally get more out of learning it. Teaching allows me to be involved in the learning process with other people. I can assess a student's abilities and develop plans and materials that address his or her
musical needs. A deep understanding of music and the learning process guides me during my lessons, and I enjoy guiding students through their musical struggles and victories. In addition to classical piano, I also sing, play upright bass, and guitar. Most of my students are piano students, but I also teach guitar and bass.
*** Lesson Details *** Since each person is different, my lessons are tailored to the individual. I don't have set lesson plans that all my students adhere to. The lessons are designed to fulfill each individual student's unique needs. My specialty is in classical music, so my students learn how to read sheet music. I also provide a solid foundation in music theory, piano technique, and interpretation. I'm laid back and easy to get along with, but I do expect my students to practice. I see my role as a musical guide. That means that I can help students who want to learn, but I can't make anyone learn music. The more you put into music, the more you get out of it. When my students take my advice during the lessons and practice at home, they progress quite quickly.
*** Travel Equipment *** I will provide music books, staff paper, and pencils. I expect students to have an instrument of decent quality to have a lesson on.
*** Specialties *** I'm primarily a classical pianist with experience playing in a variety of settings. I’ve played in rock bands, I've done musicals, and I played upright bass in a folk/jazz band. I have an in depth understanding of music theory and moderate understanding of jazz harmony. I don't adhere to any one specific teaching method. I find that since every individual is unique, individualized teaching approaches are necessary to suit a student's personal needs.
I am one of Chris’s students and he is a fantastic teacher! He teaches piano in a way his students would understand. I enjoy piano class every week and I am able to understand it in my own way!

I had an excellent experience with Kris. He challenged me but also understood my specific circumstances and pace. He was flexible with scheduling and helped me greatly improve my piano playing in a short amount of time. We worked on arranged music and songwriting. I’d recommend Kris for all levels!

I have a self tape set-up with a backdrop, professional lighting & tripod. I am happy to be your reader & coach as we film your audition, scene or stand up set. We can use this as a tool to improve or film a self tape audition. We can also chose your best take together.
It was a great first lesson. My 13 year old daughter and I were a little anxious that it would feel weird and awkward, but Kimberly is so down to earth and positive. She also had great suggestions to getting started. We're excited to go back next week!
Warren is a Maltese multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer currently residing in Brooklyn, New York. His biggest five influences are Mozart, Charlie Parker, The Beatles, Frank Zappa, and Jimi Hendrix. He has performed in a variety of contexts ranging from musicals to orchestral concerts across Malta, Paris, and New York. In 2014 he won the Malta Jazz contest and in 2016 he released an EP with F-Trio. Later that year he performed at the Malta Jazz Festival. After recently graduating from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, Warren is working on his debut album with Andy McKee (bass) and Adam Nussbaum (drums). Another recent project is Flight School - a septet exploring freely improvised music. Besides performing live and creating electronic music, he enjoys reading books and eating chocolate.
Hi! I have been a drumset educator for over 3 decades. I benefited from formal education on the drumset, and I want to pass that along to you so you can experience the full joy that this wonderful instrument can bring you! I understand that each student's journey is specific to them as an individual. As such I tailor my teaching to the direction that they want to go with drumming.
As an educator, I strive to provide my students with the tools that they will need to explore the direction that they want to take with their instrument. This can include from enjoying drumming as a hobby, performing in small jazz ensembles, recording electronic and acoustic drums in major recording studios, to performing with a full orchestra! There is literally no limit to what you can do.
My focus is to get our hobbyists to enjoy performing drums in the
comfort of their own home or with friends, and to have my professionally-minded students go out into the world of performing and recording music. All of these environments are where the ultimate joy of playing an instrument can be expressed.
As a gigging and studio musician, I understand what it takes to get to the stage or studio, apply oneself in that environment, and come away with a satisfying experience that you can then build upon for the rest of your life.
Jim has been a fantastic teacher to our son. He explains everything patiently and approaches his lessons very systematically. He selects songs that incorporate essential drumming skills (e.g. songs that include doubles, paradiddles, accented notes, etc.). This way, the the student is able to develop an understanding of how theory fits practice.
