I have learned so much from Barbee Monk! Ive had 3 or 4 different voice teachers in the past and she is by far the best one. She is a consummate professional in every way. I've noticed a huge difference in my voice for the better and with a little more work will be ready to sing in the choir soon!
Jennifer L.
Barbee has a wonderful style and approach to teaching . She exudes a positivity and enthusiasm throughout the lesson and is exceptional in providing encouragement and nonjudgemental corrective feedback when needed. I thoroughly enjoy my lessons and look forward to continuing with my program.
Marianne
Her knowledge of music and the anatomy of the voice have made my lessons with her invaluable. She’s an excellent teacher, so much so, that I plan to pick up piano lessons with her as well.

Jonathan is a fantastic teacher! Having little prior singing experience, he made me feel at ease and comfortable starting out. He also really listened to my specific goals and what I was looking to achieve with these lessons and tailored the lesson to my individual needs. I would easily recommend Jonathan to anyone looking to work on their singing technique and confidence!

My students can increase the breathing capacity and vocal range. We will work on improving the quality of sound and proper vowel placement.

About Asuka

Asuka is exceptional. Hard to process how someone as accomplished as she could be this patient. Encouraging and positive. Wonderful teacher.

Asuka, was wonderful. I've been looking forward to learning Japanese for a long time. She is very detailed and patient. Excellent teacher!
Lukas
On behalf of my son who is 15. Before finding Asuka, Lukas had taken voice lessons from several very good teachers (between breaks we would experiment with teachers).
Now with Asuka he feels most comfortable and feels he learns more per lesson with Asuka. More progress with all aspects of voice. She helps prepare for auditions with Broadway vocals and advance on the more serious and challenging Opera selections.
So the actual lessons are great and Asuka is also a charm; engaging and personable. As the parent I very much like she remains a professional singer as her career.
So we are staying with Asuka through the breaks and may even extend into piano lessons as well.
I would recommend Asuka without hesitation.

I have been teaching voice for 17 years now. I have taught to students aged between 17 - 60 and also have worked with children aged between 4 - 14 and helped them get into children choruses in opera houses as well as preparing them later for conservatory auditions. As i am also a biodynamic breathwork trauma release system therapist , miyofascial energy release massage therapist and holding meditation workshops , i have a deeper understanding of body pressure , tension release . I also use human voice to release trauma combined with breathwork and use breath and bodywork to use voice as a whole instrument. Through these techniques i can also help you find a real connection with your heart center and work on your music through these techniques. Great singing comes from being the song itself , staying in the flow , releasing and freeing yourself with the air , while you are balanced in your body and in the spine. It is all about feeling yourself more comfortable in your being and to be ...

I specialize in beginner/intermediate singers looking to expand their voice, repertoire, and love of singing. No lesson will be the same, and every lesson will be a shared experience in which we learn how your voice works, and how it feels.

Lessons include, but are not limited too, repertoire exploration, music theory, range expansion, vocal pedagogy/vocal anatomy, performance preparation, character coaching .....and much more.

About Shelley

Super nice, informative, and easy to understand. Really excited to continue lessons!
Alison
Shelley is fantastic. She made me feel at ease right away, even though I have no prior singing experience and I was incredibly nervous. As early as my second lesson, I could already hear a difference in my voice when I listened back to the recording of our session! She really knows what she's doing and it shows. I highly recommend Shelley. In addition to being a great music teacher - which she is - she's also so pleasant to work with! She's fast to respond, very accommodating with her schedule, friendly and easygoing, and professional. I started out thinking I'd just take a few weeks' worth of lessons to get out of my comfort zone. Over a year later, I'm still here, and looking forward to every week.

Ms. Shelley is very dedicated to every one of her students. It is a pleasure working with her!

"I just had my first lesson with Michelle and Robert and I cannot wait for my next one. They provide insightful feedback, explain the importance of what they are teaching you in regards to your voice and are extremely encouraging and engaging during the whole process. They both have extensive knowledge and experience and are flexible in their teaching methods to ensure that you will understand what they are asking of you. In just the one lesson I already felt an improvement in my singing technique. I still have a long way to go, but I am confident in their ability to get me there. I highly recommend them."

"I just signed up with Asuka a few weeks ago while she was traveling internationally for her performance. Because she was away, we did online lessons. At first I was skeptical because of the time difference and the quality etc. but she has very much experience not only teaching, but with online lessons. My son has an international singing competition coming up and Asuka is not only preparing him for the competition, but also for what expect from judges and how to mentally perceive the performance. Although she travels and maintains her successful career, she is able to put everyone ounce of her expertise into helping my son from where ever she is. When she came back to NYC she also worked personally with him as well. She is the best teacher and vocal coach we have had to date."

"The BEST! Lauren is an impeccable musician, teacher, and vocal technician. I studied voice in college at Oklahoma City University and started taking lessons with Lauren after a 4-year break from singing. Since my first lesson, I have seen consistent improvement in my technique and confidence. My voice is the healthiest it has ever been! I am creating sounds that just BLOW ME AWAY!

Lauren has a wide range of students, from beginners to advanced. Opera to musical theater. One thing you can be certain about her is that she has a passion for teaching. The commitment to help you improve is there. In my opinion, that is what you want in a teacher. I have the utmost confidence in recommending Lauren to someone who is looking for a teacher."

8 Beautiful Opera Arias for Beginner Singers

It is always exciting when a vocal student is ready to start studying his or her first operatic aria! One of the best things about being a classical singer is knowing you have so many great years ahead of you. After all, you’re considered in your prime in your 40s. That being said, realize that the voice you have now and the repertoire you’ll first study will be very, very different from what you sing later on in your career. It’s absolutely crucial that you sing repertoire that is …
