I started playing acoustic guitar when I was seven years old. I have been playing and teaching mostly bluegrass, old time, Irish, blues, and swing jazz styles for many years. I have taught both privately and have also done various workshops at festivals. I have taught guitar multiple years for instance at the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival in PA.
My students learn to have fun with music. Students can work on rhythms, melodies, improvisation, song writing, getting into and/or hanging on in a jam session, etc.

About Tara
I have a Masters in Education as well as having spent many years performing, teaching in one on one and group settings both privately and at music camps and festivals. I play and teach bluegrass, old time, Irish, and swing jazz styles. I like my students to really enjoy playing music and their lessons as well as learning to become fluent in the language of music. It is not required that folks learn to read music necessarily, but it can be a part of the lessons if desired. I love to see my students able to continue learning and playing on their own, be able to hold their own at jams and on the stage is they so desire, or just enjoy making music for themselves. I have techniques that have proven effective to help get past jam phobia, that help folks learn to improvise who have not had any luck with doing so before, and help getting away fro
m sheet music addictions to be able to have fun and confidence out at jams. I also can give a good foundation in music theory as it applies to one's actual playing and have it be fun and make sense.

My goal as a teacher is to avoid any type of dogmatic "one size fits all" curriculum. I always want to know what music the student enjoys and build my lesson plans based on their tastes. Chords can be physically challenging for beginners so I like to work with single-note melodies early on so that the student isn't quickly discouraged. Learning chords becomes the medium-term goal. As for the long-term, I will then use specific songs as examples for how music theory works in the context of their favorite bands. I am always prepared to adjust my lesson plans based on the students progress and overall comfort zone.

About Chris
My name is Chris B. and I've been playing music for most of my life.

The best lesson that I've personally learned is that a musician is never done learning. Once you start believing that you know everything there is to know about your instrument then you've stopped growing musically. Personally, I've also learned that I enjoy sharing my knowledge of music with others and exposing students to new techniques and concepts.

I strongly believe that these traits are the most important aspects of teaching music to others. No matter how advanced my playing skills might progress, I’ll always be able to relate to any type of student because I’m still learning something new everyday!

I have been taking lessons from Chris for 5 years. He is very open to learn and teach all styles of music. in turn, allowing me learn and play music I though i never would. His guidance in "the technology" of music is also greatly appreciated.
The learning experience with Chris is top notch, never an issue with communication or punctuality.Always able to move around his busy schedule for the "adult" student.
I want to thank Chris for allowing to find my "Soul Mustard" He is the best you can find

The technique I teach is applicable to classical, acoustic and electric guitar. It is based on finding the most relaxed position for the entire body, and ultimately the hands and fingers. It's the most fun way to play!

About Stephen
I have been playing music on the violin since the age of 7, composing since I was 14, and playing and performing on the guitar since I was 18. I've written a lot of music, and this past spring had works performed in Virginia and two in Manhattan.

I have taught music for over 15 years, in colleges, music schools and privately. One thing that I have noticed is that, with more experience, I have a lot more fun--and so do my students.

I learned a lot in my first lesson with Brian. He clearly knows the guitar inside and out. The pace was on the faster side, but he answered all my questions about technique and theory. Beyond what I wanted to focus on (technique), he's laying a solid foundation for theory so that I don't have go rely on the capo or online tabs as much. He also gave me useful scale exercises to build up finger independence and articulation. So far so good.

For acoustic guitar the first thing I do when I meet a student is to interview the student and find out why they want to learn how to play the guitar and what are some of their goals. Then I find out what style of music they would like to learn. I have the student come up with ten songs they would like to learn. I take this information and structure future guitar lessons around the essential elements of these songs. I design each lesson to teach the specific skills required to learn those songs. I create an organized binder guitar workbook and having a teaching degree I create all of the lessons to meet each students individual needs that include lessons on theory, technique, chords, rhythm, scales, arpeggios, songs, song form, and exercises etc. I use a color coded method to teach scales, chords and theory that I created that help students not only understand scales but also they are able to see visually where chords come from. I currently teach private guitar lessons and have worked for 12 years in our local schools as a teacher with students K through 12. For 2 years, from 2012 to 2014 I taught an after-school enrichment guitar and songwriting class. I created the curriculum and music workbook specifically for 6 and 7-year old children whom I taught at Pequenakonck Elementary School in North Salem, NY. I only have high accolades for David. I've learned more from David in the mere 5 lessons then I learned in a years worth of lessons in the past. His method of teaching is perfect with the right amount of homework. He customizes the lesson for the type of music I ultimately want to play with a good balance of theory and practical lessons to get me there. Bravo!!!

I've been playing guitar for recordings for years, and can show you the fundamentals of rhythm guitar, finger picking, and soloing.

About Chris
I'm a bass player, educator, composer, arranger and band leader living in Brooklyn, NY, and am active in a diverse group of projects that include polka, jazz, classical, and commercial music. I've been teaching double bass and electric bass for 20 years, and have recently added synth bass to my lesson repertoire. I grew up playing orchestral music, jazz, and rock throughout high school, and attended NYU Jazz Performance program, from which I graduated in 2005. While there I studied with a variety of teachers including John Scofield, Mike Richmond, Billy Hart, and Ron McClure.

I've performed with a wide variety of acts, including The Lone Bellow, Grace McLean (Marya in Broadway's "The Great Comet of 1812"), Major Attaway (Genie in Broadway's "Aladdin"), Donnell James Foreman, (Broadway's "The Book Of Mormon"), and I'm currently the Mus
ical Director for Melanie Penn and Porter and Sayles. I've appeared in performance on ABC's "The Chew" and "The Bachelor," and perform regularly with New York City's most renown Polka Band, The Polka Brothers.

I've thoroughly enjoyed working and growing as a musician, and I'm passionate about helping others do the same. I currently teach at NYU, as well as occasional programs at the Turtle Bay Music School in Manhattan.

Ivan is an exceptional teacher. His instruction goes far beyond the technical foundation required for all musicians - he integrates teachings that help one tap into the emotional connection to music and how that impacts playing. His disciplined approach helped me break out of some habits that developed as a self-taught guitarist and his patience was an asset for someone like me, who is very impatient.

From Ivan you will establish a foundation that is build on theory and technique. With Ivan there are no shortcuts - practice, be diligent and you'll achieve consistency. He works you hard but it's worth the effort because with these pillars, even I, an uneducated musician, have seen growth in my skills.

Geography is no issue so no matter where in the world you live, I highly recommend Ivan as a teacher and mentor.
