Cello:
A bowed or plucked string instrument with four strings tuned in perfect fifths. The strings from low to high are generally tuned to C2, G2, D3 and A3, an octave lower than the viola. It is a member of the violin family of musical instruments, which also includes the violin and viola and the double bass. The cello is used as a solo musical instrument, as well as in chamber music ensembles (e.g., string quartet), string orchestras, as a member of the string section of symphony orchestras, and some types of rock bands. It is the second-largest and second lowest (in pitch) bowed string instrument in the modern symphony orchestra, the double bass being the largest and having the lowest (deepest) pitch. My lessons always start out with the basics! We start out by learning notes by plucking the strings and then the bow is soon incorporated. The goal is to eventually learn all the notes on the fretboard and also learning how to read and play chords. As the student progresses ...

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

Tszto IS THE BEST CELLO TEACHER I have ever had because it is the first time someone explains me how to BREATH and ENJOY playing the cello, with a PERFECT TECHNIQUE and posture. He loves to play cello and he teaches with the same PASSION. He is super PATIENT with me and has the best way to correct me and explain me. He is an amazing cello player and really pedagogic. I had a german style teacher in the past and I stop playing cello because I didn't enjoy it and had pain and frustration. Tszto is helping me to reconnect with my cello, he corrects my posture (so it is a pleasant time with absolute no pain) and playing is turning to be a movement meditation for me, I love it now. I can feel and hear the progress on each lesson, thanks to him and to the homework (practice 15 mins, listen and reading). THANK YOU Tszto! After so many years, I am able to start again from cero and with so much passion. Thank you!
Martha
Tszto is an excellent cellist and teacher. My child has improved immensely in the few months she has been studying with him. He is diligent in making sure all aspects of playing the cello are in order from musicianship to technique. He is professional and a nice person.
Amy
Tszto was the best instructor ever! He was well-prepared, experienced, and flexible. He always brought all of his teaching materials relevant to me and made sure we cover what I needed to learn/reinforce. He was also clearly experienced with teaching a wide range of students and applied relevant teaching methods that worked best for me. I also appreciated how flexible he was in scheduling/rescheduling lessons whenever despite his own busy schedule and commitment. I only had a very positive experience learning from him and appreciated the fact that he demonstrated his passion for teaching in every lesson I had with him. Definitely recommend him to anyone wanting to learn/practice cello!

The cello isn't a particularly easy instrument to learn, but I will say that it is SO worth it. It takes work, but what doesn't? Cello is my passion, and I hope I can help it become yours.

At 48 years old, I decided to embark on the life-long desire for vocal lessons. Mr. Blackwell works with me at my pace, as an amateur with a busy professional and home life, and supports me wherever I am in a given lesson. After 8 months of singing together, I have so much more confidence and enjoyment out of singing and like another reviewer said, he makes me feel like I could perform one day (beyond the kitchen, car and shower!).
Hadassah
Mr. Blackwell is very kind and is an amazing teacher. He takes time to help me understand music especially the theory sections. He is not just a music teacher but he is an excellent mentor.

Luther has been very helpful at teaching me the basics while also making sure we move at a pace in which I am comfortable before jumping into any new exercises. I look forward to having him as a teacher for a long time.

"Lenna has been Leah’s teacher for over 2 years. She enjoyed cello through her school program, but wanted to push herself further and learn more solo work. Not only did she love her lessons, but she greatly improved. So much so she was just accepted into LaGuardia for cello! Lenna — even virtually during COVID— encouraged Leah and inspired her to do her best. Needless to say it’s such a joy to see my teenager love to practice, look forward to playing with Lenna, and learning so much."

"Ribal has been a fantastic Cello instructor for my child. This was my son's first time trying a string instrument, and he has absolutely loved the experience. Ribal is very enthusiastic about teaching music and has been able to introduce the instrument in a very friendly and fun way, which has kept my son interested. We are still participating in lessons and loving it, and we are also planning on starting music theory lessons to help introduce him to basic note reading. We highly recommend Ribal!"

What is a Yamaha Cello? A Detailed Look for Cello Students

Who made your cello? Who carved the body, stained, varnished, and assembled the instrument, including the label visible through the f-hole which bears their signature? Many musicians consider the maker of their instrument, or luthier, a point of pride. There are famous luthiers, like Stradivari and Guarneri, whose names are synonymous with masterpieces of craftsmanship. These masters innovated many of the standards for modern stringed instruments, and so many luthiers might include on the la …

What is the Suzuki Cello Method?

The Suzuki method, founded in 1945 by violinist Shinichi Suzuki as the Talent Education Movement, is one of the most enduring teaching methods, or pedagogies for young string players. Suzuki’s main goal for his music education system was to give students a “noble spirit,” which would instill respect and cooperation through his method. The method was brought to America in the 1960s by John D. Kendall, and today the Suzuki Association of the Americas instructs new teachers and studen …

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
