I teach beginner to intermediate piano. Theory, sight reading, rhythm counting, solo pieces, chord accompaniment, scales, harmonization, transposition, etc.

About Erin
My name is Erin. I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with a concentration in Violin. I began studying violin at the age of six. I have performed with small chamber ensembles, orchestras, quartets, and trios. I enjoy playing for churches and weddings, and love teaching.

I began teaching beginner to advanced Violin and Viola in April of 2001 in NC. I moved to California in the fall of 2008. Since moving to California I have extended my teaching to beginner Piano and Cello also. I have taught students ages 3 to 87 how to play and enjoy music on a personal level. My experience includes leading sectionals for middle school orchestra, organizing and instructing small ensembles, and organizing student recitals. Student recitals I arranged once or twice a year to showcase the
students' growth and abilities, and to provide an opportunity to give back to family and friends whose sacrifices and support enable the students to succeed.

I teach because I love music and I believe God has given me a gift. Playing and teaching help me to use my talent for His glory. I love working with people and I love how music enables people of all ages to open up and express themselves in a positive way, no matter what life throws their way. I believe music teaches discipline, builds self esteem; helps set and achieve goals; and positively affects and enhances other curricular endeavors.

My teaching philosophy is to always have fun while learning, to set attainable goals for the student, to learn through encouragement and discipline, and to help students come to love music on a personal level. I focus on the character of each student and their goals and desires to see that the student and/or parents are satisfied. Teaching is a privilege for me that I do not take for granted.

*** Lesson Details ***
I offer half hour, forty-five minute, sixty minute lessons, or longer on a weekly basis, but I do Not offer bi-weekly lessons. My lessons begin with the fundamentals of music. I believe a firm foundation in rhythm and reading is important because a student may switch musical instruments one day and the basics are universal and necessary. I have a deep love and appreciation for music which I hope to instill in my students as well. I am strict in the sense that I like students to polish their pieces before moving on. I like to keep them focused on playing well, not just playing.

A typical lesson will begin with scales to warm up, a review of the previous week's material, and a new assignment. Students will memorize pieces, be proficient in scales and rhythms, and all the while laughing and having a great time. I am known with my students for my creative analogies and flexibility to try new things in order to adapt to the students strengths and weaknesses. My students look forward to coming to their lesson, and that is very rewarding as a teacher.

I primarily use the Suzuki method for Violin and Viola, because it offers progressive steps to mastering technique, style, and musicality. My curriculum includes the use of Winning Rhythms, Wohlfahrt studies, All for Strings Theory, Essentials for Strings, and many more beginner and advanced studies; including shifting and double stops.

I love music and I love working with people; teaching is just icing on the cake. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals and discover your talents and I hope we can learn together. I look forward to meeting you!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music Stand and Keyboard

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have their instrument, and necessary accessories ie: rosin, shoulder rest, strings, books, and music stand.

*** Specialties ***
I teach Music on Violin, Viola, and Piano, as well as beginner cello. I am very creative in my teaching methods, though I use the Suzuki Method primarily for string instruments. I believe learning should be fun. I teach all the fundamentals of music from the beginning: counting rhythm, scales, reading music, theory.

Piano is my main instrument. As a music teacher and composer I realized early on the importance of piano skills. The "mother" of all instruments will help you gain musical knowledge and ability that stems into every aspect of music including music theory, composing, playing other instruments, etc.

About Daniel
In addition to teaching music, I have also worked as a special education assistant and wrestling/track coach at Lake Zurich Middle School South and an assistant Kung Fu/Tai Chi instructor at Green Mountain Arts in Logan Square, Chicago, Illinois. Jazz piano, Voice, and Composition are my main areas of expertise. However, I have also been recording, and playing guitar almost my entire life. I fully believe in music education not only for entertainment and personal enjoyment, but for many other means.
Beyond its capacity for being used as entertainment, music aids in learning, helps develop advanced motor skills, increases memory function, and many other purposes for a well rounded education. It is my goal to help educate the next generation in traditional music practices as well as incorporate new techniques that are relevant to our
current day and age.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lesson plans vary from person to person. I always make it a point to get to know the student's existing musical knowledge, goals, and background before I create a personalized lesson plan. All important concepts are covered as they are needed so students can understand theoretical concepts based upon actual application and usage. In short, I teach in a way that students can "dig in" right away and play, create, improvise, sing and/or compose freely and naturally. I always encourage students or parents to contact me with their goals, previous musical training, etc., and discuss what they really want out of lessons so they can get the most out of taking me on as an instructor.

Daniel cancelled my son's first lesson with less than a one hour notice. He attended the second lesson, but again cancelled the third lesson with a 30 minute notice. He sent me a text message to notify me and I called him back and left a voicemail. 24 hours later and I still haven't gotten a call back. I want my money back. He has wasted my son's time. Poor professionalism.

Daniel adapted throughout the course of the hour-long lesson to understand what I already knew and find appropriate ways to fill in the gaps of my knowledge. He also started me on the process of learning a new approach when looking at and learning to play new music pieces.

About Ray
Hello!

My name is Ray, I'm 31 years old, and was born in Queens, NY. I studied classical music for many years as a youngster at the Aaron Copeland School of Music college preparatory program. During this program I was introduced to Jazz, and around the same time began experimenting with synthesizers. I went on to study Electronic Production & Design at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and quickly became a very sought after studio musician and performer.

I've been successfully teaching many instruments and proficiency levels for approximately 16 years now, and can say with pride that teaching is my passion, and I anticipate it remaining a very important part of my life.

I enjoy reading nonfiction books on science, math, and philosophy.

*** Lesson Details ***
My music lessons are unique for three main reasons:

1. I h
ave a very deep understanding of music, sound, and theory, and feel music to be one of my native languages.

2. I have devoted considerable amounts of time and energy studying neuroscience, which has greatly improved my understanding of the learning process.

3. I have been blessed with the tremendous amount of patience necessary to guide a student through the necessary steps it takes to learn at whatever pace is optimal, in order to maximize the efficiency of the learning process for each individual.

*** Equipment ***
Students must have their own instrument, and purchase their own materials (books, etc). From time to time I make my way to a local music shop, and am happy to purchase materials for reimbursement.

*** Specialties ***
Classical music is my background, and what I believe to be the most cognitively and emotionally fulfilling style of music to listen to, study, and play. That said, I'm also a big fan of pop music (as well as other genres), and encourage students to enjoy, for example, learning their favorite songs from the radio.

My understanding of music theory is extremely thorough, and I'm happy to incorporate as much or as little of it as the student's interest dictates, nevertheless maintaining the minimal amount of theory necessary to get the most out of learning music and the instrument.

Thanks for checking out my profile! Please contact me with any additional questions you may have, as well as to inquire about day/time availability. I'll do my best to get back to you right away (usually within a few hours).

Being an active and experienced musician gives me the necessary knowledge to know what is needed on order to become a better musician. Also having over 20 years of teaching experience allows me to tailor my knowledge to the need of every particular student. I really enjoy to transfer my knowledge and solve the unique musical problem that every student encounter during their musical path.

About Andrea
Bassist and composer Andrea performs extensively within the improvised music scene, across a broad spectrum of genres. His instrumental tone, sensitivity and imagination, and melodic approach to a supposedly clumsy instrument brought him to perform and record with many established musicians. Based in New York City, his work as an instrumentalist and composer can be regularly heard at the top jazz clubs in the city and around the globe.

As a current faculty member of the New York Jazz Workshop, Andrea is a dedicated educator. He has taught master classes at the National Institute of Music and the National University of Costa Rica, at the Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey and at the Olav Duun Videregående Skole in Namsos, Norway. He also served as an adjunct professor at New York University, where he graduated in 2011 with a Master
of Music Degree in Performance with a Concentration in Jazz as a Fulbright scholarship recipient.

I’ve studied piano from when I was 5 years old all through college. In majored in music composition and piano performance. Most of all though I am currently a music composer and perform the piano every day. I want to teach students the basics but also make it fun to learn. Learning scales and form is important but so is truely loving the piano and whatnot can give to you.

Playing popular songs for your family is fun, and so is accomplishing a harder song that you’ve practiced for months on. Each person is different and wants to achieve something new every time

About Tim
Hey there! I am a professional musician based out of Los Angeles, CA. I grew up in Santa Barbara, CA, and graduated from Amherst College with a major in music composition and Chinese language.

I’ve lived in Los Angeles for almost 9 years now producing, composing, and performing music for TV, film, and artist projects. I’ve also been teaching part time both for piano and electronic production (pro tools, DJing, electronic music composition).

I’ve been playing piano my entire life and just the freedom of being able to sit down and play whatever comes into my head is a skill I appreciate having learned every day of my life. I think anyone can learn the piano if they are excited by it. It doesn’t take long to appreciate what an important life long skill music becomes even after just a few weeks of training

Want to be able to pick up a piece of music and play it on sight? We'll focus on the basics of reading music so that you'll get closer and closer to that goal every week! I teach reading on both treble and bass clefs, and with most students I also branch out into teaching chord symbols in order for the student to be able to play from lead sheets and chord charts. (Very young children's hands have a little harder time forming chords, so we wait until they're ready.) Most students start transposing (changing the key of a piece to higher or lower) within a year. I have a BMus degree and have taught private piano lessons since I was in college. I've been a church pianist since the age of 12, and a choral accompanist since my college years, so I can work with intermediate (and above) students on the unique challenges related to playing along with others.

About Cindy
When I came home from my second piano lesson, at age 7, my mother tells me that I said, "Mama, when I grow up I want to be a music teacher." And it's true that, in spite of liking a lot of subjects in school, music and playing the piano were always at the forefront of my thoughts. I began playing for church at age 12, having added playing from hymnals to my first love -- classical music. In college I accompanied constantly -- singers and instrumentalists -- and then was tapped to accompany one of the university's choral groups. In the years since graduation, teaching piano has been my prime source of income, but I have accompanied the local high school choral program since the 2000 -- 2001 school year. Along the way I've also tutored high school and college students in Music Theory, as well as an occasional church musician who just w
anted to add some theory knowledge to enhance playing skills. I love the challenge of coming up with ways to explain new concepts to students of all ages.
