Luther stays where I’m at and then helps me go the next step. That is useful for consistent gradual progress without the frustrations of moving either too slow or too fast (I am a beginning tenor saxophone player). Nice interpersonal style, patient and easy going, while methodical.

I think Luther is great. He works with my 10-year old son on piano, singing and even trumpet and violin as needed. My son has to work hard to progress, and Luther customizes the lesson plan for him and seems to understand him well. I'm really excited about them working together.

I don't just teach. I instill values into my students to ensure that they achieve their goals. Thomas M. Sterner, a renowned philosopher and jazz pianist once wrote, "Everything in life worth achieving requires practice." I instill this philosophy into my students. I believe that it is something they can reflect on and use in any aspect of their life. I help my students learn to enjoy the process of development. I applaud them when they are doing well, showing how excited I am when they achieve a goal. Even the smallest amount of progress is still progress. I help my students understand this and enjoy this progress so that they can continue to work hard at becoming the best musician they can be.

About Avys
I am a saxophonist, composer, and music guide. I studied music and jazz at Clayton State University, as well as Georgia State University. I have been performing and teaching saxophone for several years.
I enjoy watching my students develop as musicians. Students will find that I'm just as excited to see them progress as they are! I encourage and motivate them to achieve the goals they have set, as well as give them the tools necessary to evaluate and exceed those goals. Students can expect to gain an appreciation for their personal growth and will enjoy the process as much as they will enjoy the end product.
My job is to be both a resource and guide throughout the student's process in learning saxophone. I will implement students with skills that will not only develop them as musicians but will develop them as individuals. Students wi
ll also discover that enjoying the process of learning music, including its successes and failures, is a trait that will help them succeed at any task!

I've been playing the saxophone for over 15 years, and I love its color, flexibility, and unparalleled expressive range. I want to make sure all my students have as well-rounded an education they can, from basic fundamentals, to classical and jazz tone, to improvisation, to all sorts of wild extended techniques. The sky's the limit with the saxophone!

About Aidan
I am a composer, educator, and saxophonist looking to help students of all ages and backgrounds understand music as deeply as possible. I firmly believe that ear training and practical theory that helps students gain an understanding of a wide variety of music will help them appreciate and love music more deeply--it's like listening in full color!

I believe that all music has the potential to be great, and I want to help aspiring musicians and composers learn to be the best artists they can be. I am an experienced teacher and composer who teaches music theory and composition at The Community Music Center of Boston and holds a master's degree from Boston University, where I studied with esteemed composer Joshua Fineberg. I am also an experienced saxophonist who studied under Idit Shner at the University of Oregon.

I relish the opportunit
y to teach music to students of all skill levels with a focus on any style a student wishes, but don't think that means you'r education will be limited! I believe eclecticism is one of the finest virtues a musician can have, and there's something valuable every genre has to teach us.

Students can expect personalized practice plans for quick improvement!

Jazz & Classical Saxophone, Jazz Theory & Improvisation, Jazz Arranging & Composition, PMEA Audition Preparation

About Stephen
My name is Stephen, and I’m a passionate saxophonist, composer, and arranger. Having just graduated from the Mason Gross School of the Arts, where I studied with the illustrious Ralph Bowen, I’ve already amassed a lot of experience in performance and music education.

With my jazz quartet, I’ve performed in locations all around the New Jersey area including shows for the New Brunswick Jazz Project and the New Jersey Jazz Society. As a composer, I’ve worked hard to compose a new piece every week for my junior and senior years as an undergraduate. This productivity, as well as constant refinement under the guidance of Ralph Bowen and Victor Lewis, resulted in an honors college guided senior recital with all original material and an accompanying 40 page honors thesis.

As a music educator, I have been blessed to have the opportunities to
teach both privately and for music programs. The most notable of music program experiences have been the two years in which, I interned at the Play, on Philly! summer program. There, I taught jazz, woodwind chamber ensembles, helped during orchestral rehearsals, and juggled administrative responsibilities for students ranging from 6 to 18 years of age. Currently, I am back with the Play, on Philly! summer program as a full fledged teaching artist, where I teach a high school music composition course. I expect to be hired to join the fall and spring school semester before the end of this summer.

My teaching philosophy, shaped through years of varied classroom and private experiences, revolves around empathy and individuality. Every student is unique in their strengths and deficiencies, and it is my job as a teacher to figure out the most effective and enjoyable method of conveying knowledge. I specialize in creating personal, individualized practice plans and exercises for students, even going so far as writing etudes and recording transcription exercises with specific students in mind.
