I help students create their best work by helping them formulate a thesis, write a 5 paragraph essay, utilize critical thinking, and create a powerful essay. I work with students on their academic writing or on their college applications, helping them craft a powerful personal statement and/or supplemental essays so that they can stand out!

I have both taught this subject as a tutor to private students and taught it in a classroom setting. I have done so for over twenty years.

Writing can feel like one of the most daunting challenges facing your child. It can be a battle of wills between a child and their teachers and parents. However, writing is one of the most critical skills we learn and practice. Our writing tells quite a bit about us and our educational background.
I have a passion for writing in all its forms and this can often be a contagious habit and skill set! Once your child discovers the joy of writing, and finds their own style and “voice” they will flourish!
Even the driest of material can be made exciting and interesting when viewed with a growth mindset and the desire to be our best selves! Any style of writing is great! Together we will take the struggle out of writing, and make it a task your child actually looks forward to! I can’t wait to meet you and begin our journey!

I have taught many subjects to all ages for decades. My primary focus at present is English. Although I love teaching English in general, whether reading comprehension, grammar, or general verbal skills, my ultimate passion is writing. Expressing oneself in writing can be very cathartic, and I find that I enjoy helping students find their voice, their perspective and various ways of expressing themselves through the written word. Most students have something to say but lack the tools to effectively express it, so I patiently enlighten, empower and provide those tools.

Being a writer and having a type-A personality, I absolutely love writing essays and especially, proof-reading essays. I have years of training editing papers as I was a student-assistant at my university's English department.

I have extensive experience helping students develop effective writing and library research skills, including implementation of APA Style. I hold a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Curriculum and Instruction. The focus of my dissertation was the impact of education on Latino students from a representative bureaucracy perspective. The retrospective study centered on determining to what extent Latino representation in governance influence Latino students’ graduation rates in public high school in two counties in New York. My writing and research interests include teachers-as-researchers, examining ethnic identity, biculturalism, development of children of color, social and cultural theory, Latino and Afro-Latino studies, race and ethnicity (with a focus on Afro-descendants in and from Latin America), urban sociology, education policy, educational leadership, Culturally-Responsive Teaching, and transition to college initiatives.
