I teach both flat pick and finger style acoustic guitar including basic Travis picking.
I am a NYS certified Music teacher who has been teaching in the school system for over 20 years.
I hold both my BM and MA degree in Music Education, and Jazz guitar was my major instrument in college. My focus is to teach techniques, skills and concepts for life-long learning.
I am currently available to teach Guitar, Music Theory and Beginner Piano.
Aside from teaching private guitar and piano lessons and teaching General music and Chorus in school, I perform and accompany singers as a guitarist in churches on Long Island.
For your added security, I've been VIRTUS trained with the Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre and fingerprinted with the NYS Education department.
My system of guitar training includes:
* Right hand and Left hand technical exercises geared towards developing coordination and confidence;
work in music reading of standard music notation and TAB;
* Fretboard navigation, pick-control and fingerstyle techniques.
* Song repertoire knowledge and memorization
*Solo guitar interpretation of popular songs as well as accompaniment styles appropriate for backing your or another's voice; *Ear-training and Music theory is incorporated into each lesson.
NYSSMA preparation is available for both Classical and Jazz auditions.
Piano lessons are available with concentration in proper hand mechanics and technique, theory, ear-training and music reading. NYSSMA preparation up through level 4 is available.
*** Lesson Details *** My guitar lessons follow a structured format. I begin with technical exercises for both the picking/strumming hand and the fretting hand, leading to good sound production. As students learn to achieve well-balanced tones, they learn to apply that to the written page using standard music notation and the TAB system. From single notes, students learn to build harmony, (chords), from 2 notes, to 3, and thereafter, 4. Song repertoire is built from a variety of sources including published method books. Memorization of song repertoire is stressed.
After the student has learned the notes and scales in the first position as well as the associated chords, he/she can learn songs of his/her choosing from the Folk, Pop, Classical and Jazz repertoire that is appropriate to his/her current level.
Piano method books used include the Dozen-A-Day and Hanon technique exercises as well as the Schaum and Michael Aaron method book series'.
NYSSMA training/coaching is available for both piano and guitar with suitable training beginning a least a year before the NYSSMA audition is to take place.
The Guitar student should have a good quality guitar, (steel strings, nylon strings, or steel-string electric) professionally set-up with light-gauged strings (for the beginners), a strap, a music stand, and time and space in the home in order to encourage a daily routine of practice.
The Piano student should have daily access to a piano or keyboard instrument with weighted keys in order to be able to practice lesson material daily.
For young students, a practice chart is given where a student is to mark his/her practice time in order for progress to be made.
*** Studio Equipment *** I have a dedicated room in my home that is set up for private practice and teaching. It has an electronic piano, folding chairs, a music stand and guitar amplifiers and cables.
*** Travel Equipment *** I bring an acoustic guitar with me to all out-going lessons so that I can play along with the student and demonstrate techniques as necessary. I bring extra blank sheets of music writing paper, fret board diagrams, and study sheets, as well as extra copies of the books I use most frequently. I can purchase books/materials for the student, with the student's or parent/guardian's reimbursement, or the student may purchase materials on their own.
*** Specialties *** Pick-style and finger-style guitar, both acoustic and electric; music reading, music theory; re-harmonization and arrangement techniques to make a song your own!

Let my experience and patience guide you on your way to mastering the guitar!
A lifelong musician and songwriter, Ian S. has extensive experience teaching guitar and piano to students age 3 and up both as a private music instructor and as a staff music instructor at the Institute of Music for Children. With 28 years of experience on the guitar and 32 years on piano, Ian has studied and performed with several award-winning music artists, and has written, recorded, and produced over one hundred songs. He plays and teaches a variety of styles on both the guitar and the piano, from classical to jazz to rock. Ian is patient, friendly, and loves sharing the gift of music.
Ian was the guitarist in the Princeton University Jazz Ensemble for 3 seasons, was selected from a nationwide pool of musicians to perform at a special music event at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and was the recipient of the New Jersey Gove
rnor's Award in Arts Education for the category of Instrumental Music.
*** Lesson Details *** I am very laid back and friendly, and I want you or your child to be as comfortable as possible during our lessons. You or your child will develop confidence and musical intelligence. I will make your lessons fun, enjoyable, and effective. Boredom is not an option! Music is fun... let's keep it that way.
The teaching methods I use will be custom-tailored to your individual needs, personality and specific musical goals. If it's guitar or piano you want to learn, I want to get you playing exactly what you want to be playing as soon as possible. That's what you're here for, and that's what I'm here for. I will make it happen. If it's songwriting that you want to learn, I will help you access that place inside of you that is dying to express itself creatively, and will teach you techniques to harness that energy and translate it successfully into musical expression.
You can expect to learn all the basics of music theory, proper playing techniques, improvisation and spontaneous musical expression, and I will help you develop your "ear" so you can figure out songs you like just by listening to them. This is all about you and your goals, and I want you to achieve them in a fun and engaging way.
*** Studio Equipment *** Living room: Upright piano, guitars, amps, keyboard, percussion
*** Specialties *** I specialize in pop, rock, classical, jazz, blues, folk, fingerstyle (guitar), etc. I also teach improvisation and songwriting, and try to develop the student's ear for figuring out songs they like on their own.
Ian is fantastic teacher. He was so patient with my toddler daughter. And when she became fuzzy during the class, Ian could be so creative to always come out with a way to calm her down and redirect her attention to other musical things. I would love him to be my daughter’s music teacher for as long as possible if I did not have to move.

Ian is very knowledgeable and is great in explaining theory and great in demonstrating so you can understand.
Music lessons should be fun and engaging for students. I am excited to take you to the next level, whether you are an absolute beginner, intermediate, or advanced student. If you are interested in learning classical guitar, rock, jazz, heavy metal, or polka!
- I have a record of success with students of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, and goals - I teach using a variety of methods and styles, including my own authored books - I own a music academy where I train others to be successful instructors - I have a very high student retention rate - I've been playing over 25 years - I have a BA in Music from Florida State University - I have been teaching for 17 years - I have personally taught over 15,000 private lessons - I have played in numerous bands - I have gigged professionally
*** Lesson Details *** I customize the lessons to the goals of each student. Whether it's for fun and leisure or a driven passion with serious goals, I can give you the tools to accomplish what you want! I love teaching people through the music that they love. So, whether that's Britney Spears, Metallic
a, or Bach, the concepts underlying music are basically the same. I will make sure you can play the music you love and hopefully help you explore new music as well.
*** Studio Equipment *** In my studio I have a Guild Classical, Alvarez Acoustic, and Epiphone Electric.
All the accessories needed as well. Music Stands, Foot Stools, Picks, Straps, Slides, Tuners, Books, etc.
I also use an iMac in lessons. I like incorporating technology when appropriate, to look up tunes, or do a recording session, it's a necessary tool to learn nowadays.
*** Travel Equipment *** I will bring everything we need to conduct a proper lesson remotely. I do recommend you have your own guitar though.
*** Specialties *** For all the advanced knowledge I have and years of teaching students of all kinds, my favorite is teaching beginners. I love seeing someone come in with no knowledge of music, and taking them from milestone to milestone. I love watching new musicians blossom.
I play, teach, and perform most frequently in classical, rock, blues, and pop genres.
Daniel is very knowledgeable and kind. He understands student's strength and weakness and also the areas to focus on. I am a beginner and have self learned on and off for a few years. Daniel teaches progressiveIy and I throughly enjoyed my first session with him!

Great first lesson

Daniel is a fun and easygoing instructor who tailors to your needs, adapting to your musical interests as well as your preferred lesson style. And it is clear that he has years of teaching experience under his belt. He has also helped me improve my music theory understanding, which has become rusty over the years. I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor.
The technique I teach is applicable to classical, acoustic and electric guitar. It is based on finding the most relaxed position for the entire body, and ultimately the hands and fingers. It's the most fun way to play!
I have been playing music on the violin since the age of 7, composing since I was 14, and playing and performing on the guitar since I was 18. I've written a lot of music, and this past spring had works performed in Virginia and two in Manhattan.
I have taught music for over 15 years, in colleges, music schools and privately. One thing that I have noticed is that, with more experience, I have a lot more fun--and so do my students.
Stephen is amazing and talented. He is very understanding of the initial frustration of learning a new instrument and makes it interesting and fun.

Mr. D is a very good teacher at violin. I give him 5 stars because he is nice and a good teacher.

Stephen has been teaching my son Classical Guitar lessons for over four years now, and he is one of the best music instructors we've had. Stephen is a very motivated and inspiring teacher, my son absolutely loves his music classes. We are happy to have a truly dedicated teacher, who loves working with kids and is able to pass his genuine passion for music to others. Thank you, Stephen!
I take time to teach the foundations and to make sure the student becomes strong and confident before moving on. I also know how to break up a lesson so a student doesn't get bored. Fun is so important to keep on playing!
Hello! Let's have some fun, work hard, and help you feel more confident about your instrument. I have been teaching music for ten years. I have a degree in Music Education from the Crane School of Music. I sing classical, jazz, pop, broadway, folk, you name it, and I can help you do it with ease. My home studio is a cozy and safe place to take lessons or I can visit you in your home. I also teach piano, guitar, and ukulele.
My daughter is taking lessons with Maria. This was her first lesson and enjoyed it

Maria was very pleasant and my daughter enjoyed her first lesson.

Maria is such an amazing teacher one of the best I’ve ever had! She knows how to get you where you want your voice to be. She works hard and takes things at your pace to make sure your voice is just perfect! You won’t regret having Maria as your teacher!😍
I have been playing guitar and a multitude of other instruments for over 10 years now and have been teaching on and off for the past six. My goal is to help you build up a passionate work ethic that is based in enjoying the music rather than dreading it. I am all about creating a low stress, relaxed, and fun atmosphere. Music is technical and we will definitely work on technique, but if it isn't fun, it isn't worth doing.
I am a multi-instrumentalist from Upstate New York. I started playing guitar and saxophone 10 years ago and simply couldn’t stop! Over the years, I picked up ukulele, clarinet, mandolin, flute, among others, studied voice at Ithaca College as part of their BFA MT program, and have become a singer/songwriter and recording artist. As a teacher, I am all about loving and performing the music. Learning instruments can be hard and technique is very important, but if we don’t cultivate a passion for music, why are we playing it at all? The most engaging and successful artists are those who put themselves into their music and fully perform it, not just play it. My goal is to keep his classes stress free and focused on enjoying the passion of performance while pushing towards more challenging and exciting material.
Jacob is an excellent instructor! He was patient and encouraging with my daughter while laying a wonderful foundation in what I hope will be a life-long relationship with music. They also have a lot of fun every time which definitely makes learning anything new easier. Have recommended to friends and family!
"Lucian has a life time of experience as a practing musician, and also has been teaching for many years. I've had other guitar teachers, but Lucian is
great at explanation and practical instruction. He's not just teaching you how to strum chords, but also about music theory.
He has the patience, and demeanor that is perfect for teaching. No easy task. I've seen other students of all ages here as well.
"Matt was the first guitar instructor I've had that has actually taught me enough to perform! I came into his instruction learning only a couple songs by h
eart, and in a few months I was able to pick up on common chord progressions in popular songs and learn them so quickly. My goal was to be able to play open mic nights at my local college bar, and Matt showed me the tricks to sing and play guitar at the same time. His studio is so welcoming, lots of natural light, and easy to play a guitar in. It was nice that his wife was around sometimes during the class (made me feel more comfortable). Awesome teacher!"
"My 8 year old raved about Joshua being her favorite teacher after her first lesson. Joshua creates a lesson plan that's incredibly effective, time efficie
nt, and focused on empowering the students passion for music. My daughter felt safe in his home and we were both impressed by his teaching tools in addition to his guitar collection. Last, he's got a great attitude and is relentlessly positive. Highly recommend!"
"Jordan is one of the finest musicians I've met. He is one of the most patient and humble teachers I've met. His slots book fast though, so if he has a slo
t for a new student, jump on it! This guy will never take advantage of you, and is always understanding when I've had stuff come up. He really treats everyone with over-the-top kindness and never equivocates on that principle. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!"
"Had a great experience the first lesson. Look forward to the next one."
"Jordan has done a terrific job connecting with my son, and imparting a fun atmosphere to learn in. Highly recommend him for anyone wanting to learn an in
strument in a structured, yet relaxed atmosphere."
"Jordan is simply awesome. He creates a learning lesson based on you. Your skill level, musical preferences, and whatever else will help you learn and prog
ress. Thanks Jordan!"
"Scott is patient, develops a plan that is geared to me and my style of playing and level of learning. I enjoy progressing slowly but steady to improve on
what I've learned"
"I've taken many lessons with Emi so far and I absolutely love working with him. He is an incredibly talented musician who is able to clearly explain thing
s. He's a very easygoing guy and I feel like I've already improved so much in such a short time. I look forward to continuing to work with Emi."
