I think playing music should be about having fun. Lessons are often linked to visions of people sitting down with an instrument and trying to drill a very difficult piece of music over and over until they can play it right. However, my number one goal every time I sit behind an instrument is to have fun and I try to express that to all my students. A music lesson should be an environment in which one can really test themselves, while at the same time, wear a smile on their face and enjoying the art of learning. Their is nothing more satisfying to a teacher than seeing the gears in a student's head start to roll when they are learning something. Then seeing the look on their face when they finally get it is amazing. A proud expression immediately illuminates them after they realize they have climbed a mountain. The benefit is not only the fact that they have reached the top of the mountain, but the climb lead to a wide open space of possibilities.
In my opinion, the drums are fun for ...

Marc is extremely patient and passionate about his teaching. Not only does he emphasize the basic techniques for a beginner like me to master, but also make it fun for me. He also tries to motivate me with music theory and history which definitely help me understand the music better and inspire me to master the basics. Marc has an amazingly amount of knowledge in everything else as well, such as physics etc. that shows up in his teaching from time to time, which makes the learning experience much richer!

Marc is an incredibly friendly drum coach who also knows when to push his students to their limits. He has the rare ability to inspire his students so that they perform to the best of their abilities. If you don't sign up with Marc for your next drum lesson, I would suggest re-evaluating your decisions.
Rafal W.
Marc is a great teacher. Classes are always very friendly and productive. In my case, each class begins with a review of progress/practice, and ends with a meaningful and personalized homework. He is also very flexible, sometimes I had to move my classes around and he's always super responsive and understanding. I knew nothing about drums, and I am happy I decided to begin my journey to learn how to play them, with Marc as a mentor!

I am brand new to music production and Scott broke everything down very easily for me. He also gave me great recommendations on starter kit equipment to purchase that was not too expensive.

I had a good time with Scott as my coach and first time playing on a drum set! I hope to continue more lessons and maybe do some studio work later.
He showed me basic techniques that I could understand and practice with music. I am happy that I met him.

Scott is amazing! He helped teach me the basics of Ableton, over Skype. I was coming from Logic and needed a quick course. I learned how to have a faster workflow and tons of cool shortcuts! Also he is a very chill guy and easy to get along with. I highly recommend Scott if your looking to take your music production, and mixing/mastering skills to the next level.

Taking lessons with Kismat was both fun and educational, as it should be. I was introduced to a variety of different music theory concepts at a pace which suited me. It was never too difficult nor too easy. Of course your progress will be dictated by how much you practice, but Kismat's lessons will give you a clear path to follow. Over all I had a lot of fun learning from him, he's a great teacher and fun guy to jam with.
Kathy
Our son Joe has taken lessons with Kismat for about the last year. They have been the most productive lessons of our sons guitar playing! Kismat found a way to teach our son in a way that appealed to him and applied to his way of learning. I could not be happier with the experience! Thank you so much!
Ingrid
I was Kismat's employer at Guitar Center in Roseville, Minnesota. He was fun to work with and great with students of all ages and skill levels. His energy and positivity always brightened the day and inspired the customers.

"Matthew has been great with our son! A perfect balance between keeping our 6-year old interested but also teaching the essentials. Other teachers just didn't "get it" when teaching a young, active boy. We are very pleased with Matt's approach, and after only 3 lessons and some practice, I am already able to jam with my son on some simple rock n roll tunes."

"I have been taking lessons from Michael fora few months now. He starts off from the rudiments, and then adds other topics such as syncopation. He loves to talk about music, so it helps to know something about different genres to follow the conversation. He has definitely put in a lot of years into drums, judging from my interaction with him. Don't be surprised if he suggests that you consider learning a 2nd instrument. I would highly recommend his instruction for a beginning drum student"

Preparing for a Drum Audition: Cruise Ship Musician Gig

A few weeks ago we discussed how to prepare for a gig, but what if you're stuck on the very first step of getting through the audition? Check out this expert advice from DC-area drum teacher Andrew T., who has experience working as a musician for Princess Cruises:   As musicians, most of our gigs stem from informal auditions, which are typically very loose and relaxed. But what happens when you are asked to audition formally for a gig with a large corporation? From 2007 to 2009 I worked …
