My name is Sylivan. I'm a dedicated musician who is passionate in music education and guitar music. I have majored in Music and received my professional training at City College of New York with a minor in Education. I have been playing music for 20 years and have performed in many different occasions. Over the years, I have developed various kinds of skills in music from my education, formal training and experiences:

- Learned various types of music for over 10 years such as classical, rock, and pop
- Avid guitarist and also proficient in bass, drums, piano, and vocal
- Solid foundation of theory and harmony
- Worked as music and guitar instructor for private music lesson and other organizations such as summer camps and private music institutes.

I have also been teaching children and teenagers music for
over 10 years, including group classes and private lessons. Below are some of the goals in my teaching method and what students can benefit in every lesson:

- Explaining the structure of guitar and giving the basic information about the instrument
- Instructing students about both the basic and advance techniques in guitar playing
- Striking a fine blend of theory and practicality while teaching guitar playing
- Ability to understand the needs, short and long term goals of different students and changing the methods of teaching accordingly
- Preparing students for student recitals or public performances if necessary

I'm funny, friendly, outgoing, and love to play guitar. I’m also flexible and easy to work with, however when it comes to learning I’m strict and serious. Some of my students call me “Three-Face”, for I’m not only your teacher but also your friend and your coach: I will introduce you to the world of guitar as a teacher; jam and have fun with you as a friend; and I will train you and make sure you are on the right as a coach.

I like all kinds of music, from Classical to Metal and everything in between. Some of my favorite bands/artists who influence me include: Joe Satriani, Slash, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, Disturbed, Antoine Carre, Niccolo Paganini, Antonio Vivaldi…

Sharing my knowledge in music and guitar makes me happy, and it is the greatest joy for me to see my students grow and play the music they like. Guitar lessons should be fun and enjoyable, yet challenging.

*** Lesson Details ***
During our first lesson, we will first talk about your goal and music direction that you want to pursuit. Then based on your goal and direction, I will customize a curricular track and briefly explain the things that you need to know and what you need to focus on in order to achieve your goal.

As your instructor, my goal is to help you to reach your goals and to have fun with the music you enjoy. In each lesson, according to your progress, I will introduce you new concepts/materials using fun and easy-to-learn activities. Then we will work on the materials together and have fun jamming together. Yes!! You will feel like you are jamming along with your friend instead of taking a guitar lesson, because guitar lessons suppose to be fun!!!

Each particular lesson I will assign you some assignments. They would either be things that we already jammed on during the lesson, or something that I want you to work on your own. Then when we meet again, we will go over the assignments together and I will give you comments and advises to help you play better.

Below are only some of the instructional books that I usually use for teaching beginners. I will also use other instructional books and music repertories according to the ability of the students and their music style:

- Hal Leonard Guitar Method: Will Schmid and Greg Koch
- Alfred’s Basic Guitar Method: Alfred d’ Auberge and Morton Manus
- Hal Leonard Rock Guitar Method: Michael Mueller
- Solo Guitar Playing: Frederick M. Noad

From my experience as a teacher and student, I believe there is no such thing as a “Perfect Instructional Book”. Therefore along with the above instructional books I will add in some other activities and exercises written by myself.

Sylivan is a great teacher with great personality. He was there to help me not only when I struggled with music and guitar but also when I felt down. I asked him why he cared so much and he told me a healthy mind is most important which helps in music learning =) Sylivan is also patient; even sometimes I can't stand myself but he was there to help me to learn lol He has passion in teaching and you can see it once he's in action.

Dan, a multi faceted musician, composer and educator active in the tri-state area since 1994. Dan's eclectic education, upbringing and fields of interest render him one of the unique voices in the dynamic field of current music education.
In an era where old boundaries are breaking and a growing musician needs to have expanded horizons, Dan stands out in the crowd.

Born and raised in Jerusalem, Dan received his musical education from the Rubin music academy in Jerusalem and the Manhattan School of music in NYC where he completed a Masters degree in classical composition and Jazz performance. Dan's playing and compositions were performed nationally and internationally, reviewed by the New York Times, The St Louis Post Dispatch and other publications.

Currently Dan is teaching composition, film scoring, theory and ear training at the
Manhattan school of music pre college division (where he has been a faculty member since 1994) and piano, theory and composition at the JCC on the Palisades Thurnauer school of music,where he also served as theory department chair from 1999 - 2005.
The newest addition to Dan's expending circle is The Red Bank Regional High School for the performing arts where he has a been a guest lecturer since fall of 2011.

Dan is an excellent instructor. My half hr per week under his guidance helps me develop good practice routines; learn music history, & theory. I don't even have to tell him what I've struggled with during my practice sessions (at home) Dan identifies those obstacles and provides tools for improvement. Quite an impressive pro in my estimation. Just what I need to continue my musical journey. Pretty nice guy also.

Lessons are taught very close to Grand Central Station convenient for commuters from Connecticut or Westchester. Not to worry, there is no judgement in my studio, in fact, that is my one rule! The studio is a safe place to take risks and explore with our voices. We will work on the proper breathing for power and control, smoothly singing from the highest to the lowest notes in your range, and extending beyond what you never dreamed possible, how all the muscles in your body affect the sound that comes out of you and how to gently optimize your sound, and how you affect your sound by your thoughts feelings and emotions. You are your instrument! In three months you will feel you have a voice you never dreamed you could have.

I have over 20 years of professional experience and training with masters. Eileen Farrell, who was one of the greatest voices of the 20th century. Conrad L. Osborne, Opera Critic for world renown musical publications such as Opera News and High Fidelity.

Somatic Voicework The LoVetri Method takes registration understanding to another level and combined with resonance work to take the chest voice up into the head voice fo a healthy Broadway sound.

The McClosky Technique offers the anatomical understanding and affect of the extrinsic muscles of the face, jaw, throat, neck, tongue and alignment, and how these elements affect the smooth functioning inside the larynx.

I incorporate these styles into my own method of approaching the voice by equally addressing Breathing/Registration/Resonance/ Relaxation, and Mind/Body/Emotion.

Sue Anne is truly an incredible teacher; she focuses on you holistically, and works thoroughly from the ground up, in the most optimistic, encouraging and comforting manner I could possibly dream of. Great Teacher!

Although I've only been a student of Sue Anne's for a short time, she has already helped me so much to let go of bad habits and develop proper technique. She is very patient and at the same time, she is enthusiastic and genuinely invested in helping me reach my potential. I highly recommend her.

Sue Anne is wonderful!

I came to New York for school and to further my training and aspiration to pursue musical theatre. I saw Sue Anne's ad in Hunter College. Her work focuses on how to sing naturally, something I have always tended to struggle with. I often found myself losing my voice the night before my musical's opening night, because of my constant belting and lack of a balanced relationship between my head voice and chest voice. After being with Sue Anne for a few months, my voice has felt and sounded much healthier! I have gained knowledge of the parts of the body involved in singing and especially breathing, and now instead of wailing away at any high note, I am singing with more ease. Sue Anne is an amazingly talented, knowledgeable and lovely teacher and person. I am ecstatic to have met her, and look forward to hopefully what will be many more months of lessons!

"There are two basic levels that every singer must address. The first one is addressing the condition of the body and voice and the second one is addressing the functioning of the voice and body."

I - Silent Foundation

The silent foundation refers to the condition of your instrument as it is silent. If we are looking at the body as an instrument that sings, we first have to make sure that our instrument is in good condition. How healthy is your instrument? Is it well rested, well hydrated and loose? Or is it tired, dehydrated and tense? As you could guess, the condition of your instrument will have a significant impact on the quality of the sounds you make. So the first thing to be addressed is how your instrument is before it starts making sound.

II - Conditioning of Singing Behaviors

This is when we get busy. Once we have a well rested, healthy, hydrated and relaxed instrument we can start working it out. The goal is to condition our singing behaviors to be reflexive, reliable and strong. The way to do this is through a series of vocal exercises that will condition your voice to respond to the desires of your heart. Whatever it is that you want to express will be possible once your instrument is conditioned to the point where there is no gap between what you want to express and your ability to do so. Learning to sing is all about learning how to express yourself without barriers. You should be able to develop enough range, power, control and skill so that you can express your heart without feeling like you'™re incapable of achieving what you pursue. To achieve these abilities training is often necessary.

Mr. Aaron is an amazing teacher. He is knowledgeable, very patient and very helpful. After taking several lessons with Mr. Aaron, I realized playing piano is a much more delicate form of art than I had thought.

In Mr. Aaron's class, piano playing, understanding of music, music theory and the culture of music are nicely combined. I've learned playing piano before, but have never been so happy and learning so much.

A violinist is a musical knight: the round shield which once protected the heart has become a sound-resonating violin, the linear sword a bow, yet the fundamental gestures are the same. The active right directs according to linear rules, the left spirals inwards.

Dear Student,

My name is Gabrielle A. I am French, in my mid-twenties, and hold a MA in education. Simple, to the point, confident, smiling and fun, I engage quickly and well with those around me.

While teaching a standard violin apprenticeship curriculum, I approach the instrument from the perspective of movement: what qualitative gesture is at play behind a particular stroke or fingering?

Imagine playing violin according to lines of force, directions and qualities of movement between the right and the left! Musical sound, and its higher sibling tone, are born from
the qualitative interplay between right and left meeting in the human chest.
By inwardly experiencing the instrument as a threefold instrument (violin, bow and violinist) we can step away from the view that the violin is 'somewhere out there', a foreign object to be more or less painfully mastered.

I believe that as instrumentalists we ourselves are a part of the tone we produce.
I will therefore look with you at the kinesiology behind a correct posture and encourage you to experience the playing process as a circle between the violin, the bow and the violinist.

Gabrielle is great at teaching my 9 year old french. She makes his lessons fun and keeps him engaged so that he always looks forward to his lessons. She does a great job engaging with the interests of her students, instead of sticking to a rigid lesson plan and losing the student. For example, quietly inserting verb conjugation and tense training into the telling of a story her student is determined to share with her. She really works with the kid's interests and gets their buy-in and engagement.

Emily holds her M.M. in Multiple Woodwind Performance from The Boston Conservatory with concentrations in saxophone, clarinet, and flute performance. She also holds a B.M. in Music Education from Ithaca College with an emphasis on jazz performance and pedagogy in addition to traditional studies in music education.

Emily has performed on tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, clarinet, bass, clarinet, and flute in Big League Productions' Broadway National Tour of the Frank Loesser classic "Guys and Dolls." About Vivienne
Vocalist, pianist, composer, educator and producer Vivienne Aerts has an international performance experience performing on stages in The Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, and the US, sharing the stage with both national and international Jazz icons such as Lee Konitz, Kenny Werner, Chris Potter, John Patitucci, Joe Cohn and Florian Weber. In 2009, Vivienne released her first album “Roofgarden” in the Netherlands under her own label. Her second album “Polaroid” (a snappy Jazz a cappella EP) was released in 2012, recorded and produced with Australian electronic producer Geoff Baker.

During her studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston she worked with renowned Jazz artists such as Danilo Perez, Joe Lovano, John Patitucci and Joanne Brackeen. In addition to her degree in Vocal Performance from Berklee, she also has a degree in Choir Direc
ting and a Bachelor and Master's in Clinical Psychology from the Netherlands. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Berklee, Vivienne was hired to work for pianist Kenny Werner and the Berklee Effortless Mastery Institute, focussed on 'how to let the music play itself'.

Vivienne has been residing in New York City since April, 2015 where she gave a debut performance at the infamous Blue Note Jazz Club and is currently working on her third album. Her music is available on her website www.vivienneaerts.com and on Spotify, iTunes, and Amazon.

TEACHING STYLE
As a vocalist, composer, pianist and educator who is passionate about teaching, Vivienne believes in sharing her joy for music with students of all ages and she is adept in all styles of music. Vivienne has been teaching private piano and voice lessons all over Europe for the last 15 years. For the last five years, Vivienne has also been teaching songwriting and improvisation workshops at the University of Leiden (Netherlands) and at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Vivienne has a wide variety of students and lesson plans, from the absolute beginner to advanced and professional students. She is known for successfully preparing students for Berklee College of Music auditions since she has been a Berklee Student/Alumni Ambassador for several years.
