Tu Quyen is a wonderful teacher. She teaches you technique, musicality and theory. In a short period of time, I have been able to progress more than I have previously with other teachers. She is very understanding and sets achievable goals for you. I have been wanting to learn a Chopin piece for a very long time, and I am happy to say, I am slowly tackling the piece with her guidance. My schedule requests were able to be accommodated as well. I would recommend her to anyone looking for an exceptional teacher.

Tu Quyen was an absolutely amazing teacher. I've recently got back into piano after a 14-year hiatus and had to start from scratch. She understood and was able to accommodate & adjust my lessons accordingly. She is also one of the only teacher I've had that teaches me how important it is to connect with the piano and the songs as the pianist. Highly recommended!

Our lessons will be laid-back, encouraging, and productive. We will work together to help you achieve your goals and gain a well-rounded music education, regardless of age or musical background. Students who study piano with me will not only learn songs they love to play, but will learn proper technique, sight-reading, music theory, and ear training. I tailor each lesson based on the musical interests and goals of the student. I aim to give the students a solid foundation in technique and theory in order to help the student feel comfortable at the piano and to make progress at a steady rate.

About Summer
I believe that the most important aspect of teaching music is creating an environment that is positive and individualized for each student while simultaneously providing the necessary tools to learn music both successfully and confidently, such as theory, technique, sight-reading, and ear training.

I have 9 years of experience teaching piano, theory, and guitar to students of all ages and musical background, including students with special needs.

Above all, our lessons will be about learning music that interests you and reaching your musical goals. Curriculum for our lessons will draw from variety of methods and aspects of music education. These include music theory, ear training, sight-reading, body mapping, technique, improvisation skills, arranging, and composition.

Students who are interested in doing so will have the opport
unity to perform at spring and winter recitals.

I am currently an active performer and music educator in New York City. I graduated with honors from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA with degrees in Performance and Audio Engineering, where I studied with extraordinary musicians and teachers such as Ray Santisi, Jennifer Elowsky-Fox, Doug Johnson, Yakov Gubanov, Tibor Putszai and Suzanna Sifter.

Please note that my exact availability for in-home lessons is dependent on your location.

Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions about lessons or scheduling!

About Andrew
I've been studying music for 10 years now. Having come to music later in life than most, I find that I am more empathetic to the perspective of the beginning student than many teachers. I spent the Summer of 2009 teaching music fundamentals to groups of severely physically and mentally disabled children of all ages. Since then I've completed my Bachelors degree in Music, taught privately and with several established music schools.

To me, music is above all about transformation. Beautiful sound transforms our experience of the environment, and learning an instrument can help students approach life as one big instrument they need to practice to master.
Learning to play an instrument is also an experience of training one’s nervous system to gradually act and respond in new ways, and that kind of persistent, focused
, training is applicable to any new skill.
Last and definitely not least, playing music is fun.

*** Lesson Details ***

I plan my lessons around getting students to enjoy playing music as soon as possible, whether that means learning how to strum a chord rhythmically, playing their favorite song, or how to take a blues solo.
There are steps that have to be climbed to do more complex things and I encourage students to practice a little every day rather than for a long time once or twice a week. Developing a love of music and steady practice habits are more beneficial over the long term than practicing until your limit.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I currently have a living room space where I can teach, but it's small so it might be preferable to travel to you.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If necessary I can provide amplification, cables, and a microphone.

*** Specialties ***
Jazz, Folk, Blues, Rock, Hip-hop, Funk, Reggae.

With 28 years of experience on the guitar and 32 years on piano, Ian has studied and performed with several award-winning music artists, and has written, recorded, and produced over one hundred songs. He plays and teaches a variety of styles on both the guitar and the piano, from classical to jazz to rock. Ian is patient, friendly, and loves sharing the gift of music.

Ian was the guitarist in the Princeton University Jazz Ensemble for 3 seasons, was selected from a nationwide pool of musicians to perform at a special music event at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and was the recipient of the New Jersey Gove

I will make your lessons fun, enjoyable, and effective. Boredom is not an option! Music is fun... let's keep it that way.

The teaching methods I use will be custom-tailored to your individual needs, personality and specific musical goals. If it's guitar or piano you want to learn, I want to get you playing exactly what you want to be playing as soon as possible. That's what you're here for, and that's what I'm here for. I will make it happen. If it's songwriting that you want to learn, I will help you access that place inside of you that is dying to express itself creatively, and will teach you techniques to harness that energy and translate it successfully into musical expression.

You can expect to learn all the basics of music theory, proper playing techniques, improvisation and spontaneous musical expression, and I will help you develop your "ear" so you can figure out songs you like just by listening to them. This is all about you and your goals, and I want you to achieve them in a fun and engaging way.

As an instructor I will teach you the fundamental tools you will need as a musician to progress at your own pace. I taught myself without any formal training until I was headed to college. Even with private instruction, it was my own passion and work ethic that allowed me to grow into the musician I am today. I seek to inspire that same passion in you.

About Basa
I am a keyboardist, percussionist, producer, and recording artist. I attended Brooklyn School For Music & Theatre and City-As-School graduating with course and internship based experience in drum-corps marching band, piano, music theory, and audio engineering.

I teach piano, percussion, and music production to individual or group students of all ages at beginner experience levels. I can teach students how to read/write music, to execute rudiments with the proper fulcrum, and to establish entrainment with other musicians in a band. Students can also learn and apply basic-advanced methods of music production using Logic Pro X and MASCHINE.

As a professional musician I have played in R&B, Funk, and Hip-Hop bands all over the tristate area and Los Angeles. I've performed with well known neo-soul duo, "OSHUN," as their keyboardist for e
vents curated by Redbull Soundselect, Afropunk, BRIC TV, etc. I currently play percussion and auxiliary keys for a fusion band led by entertainer Qaasim Middleton: finalist of American Idol Season 14, actor in nickelodeon's, "Naked Brothers Band," and netflix's, "The Get Down." For every artist I've performed with I've also produced instrumental tracks that have gone on to be used in commercial recordings, distribution, and live performance.

As a musician I intend on further developing my passion, skill, and technique for music through teaching and playing for others. Being a musician is without a doubt a path to pursue greatness as a human being. As my student you will learn the importance of communication, discipline, concentration, confidence, fun, humility, and creativity. Let's help each other become our best selves through our art!

I've been playing the piano for a very long time. (Almost 27 years, to be exact!) I feel that the piano is an incredibly powerful instrument. Because the piano is a chordal instrument, you can literally use it to play any piece of music ever written, classical, jazz, pop, or anything else you can think of.
It is also one of the most relaxingly mindful and emotionally cathartic experiences to be able to play the piano!
You can play many different rhythms at the same time (since you have two hands, and ten fingers). Or you can play the most beautiful melody with one hand while the other hand keeps the beat. You can sit down and compose a piece, or you can accompany yourself while you sing. Or if you want to learn about music theory, the piano keys are a better visual representation of this than any other instrument. It's the easiest instrument with which you can learn to play by ear. The possibilities are truly endless.
For these reasons and many more, piano lessons should be ...

About Rebecca
I was trained at the Eastman School of Music in classical piano and voice, but have always had a love for pop music. After I was done with school, I moved back to NYC, joined an indie rock band called Ravens & Chimes, started writing and producing pop songs under the name Krystalmath (over 400,000 plays on Spotify), and began my teaching career. I usually start students in a classical style because it provides more structure, but also emphasize from early on pop and jazz-style improvisation and playing by ear.
