Violin lessons with me are unique because I am flexible to the needs of the student. Aside from needing the fundamentals, students working with me can work on a variety of genres including classical, bluegrass, country, jazz, pop, rock, and even RnB. Lessons with me are fun because I use a variety of methods and different activities for both child and adult students. I believe that ear training and music reading are essential tools for students to learn when learning the instrument.

I have been teaching the violin/fiddle to children and adults for 9 years. My speciality is in teaching young children and youth. I do teach methods that are appropriate to their level, whether they are beginners or have been playing for a while. I love teaching adult beginners as well, we all need a good start with a firm technique base for left and right areas (violin and bow) of playing the violin. I teach from the concept of Musicianship: warm ups to prevent injury, correct techniques for playing, and using theory books and violin method books that are creative and easy to follow and understand, both for children and adults. I teach note-reading as well as aural learning because a student, young or older, needs both music notation and ear training to gain the best possible perspective on learning this instrument and having fun. As a teacher, I love being creative in lessons, it's very important and helps the student to assimilate the techniques and pieces so they can move ...

Diane is an amazing teacher!! My two daughters (8 and 12yrs old) have been taking lessons from Diane for over 2 years and they love her lessons! Diane is very kind-hearted, very positive, and patient. They have a great violin rental and purchasing program with a very reasonable price and her husband as a professional luthier, setting up all the instruments for us and whenever the kids need to switch a violin size, they take care of it. We are very happy with Diane and it's hard to find a teacher like her.
Nancy
Was my first violin lesson today, and Diane is very thorough and easy to follow. She is excited about the violin and not just a teacher so I already know that I have a great teacher. I am so excited about my journey with her!

Diane is a fabulous teacher!! When my daughter wanted to start violin and fiddle I knew I would need to know something about violin to help her at home. So, Diane taught my 5 year old and me. Diane really has an amazing bond with my daughter and has truly become one of our family... She makes the lessons fun and engaging for my daughter... She takes a personal interest in her students and gears the lessons to their level. Diane is always willing to work with you when it comes to schedules as well, for example: summer time vacations.... I highly recommend Diane as an instructor. She knows her instrument, her theory, and how to convey the information to adults and small children. We have now been taking lessons for a couple of years and my daughter still looks forward to them and that is due to the investment that Diane has personally made in their relationship!

Annabel is a classicly trained violinist who gradually became a musician as she learned what it meant to be one. We all have a multitude of senses that can be tuned to become a musician: a channel for our chosen instrument. Musicians aim to cultivate talent in music as a gift to give oneself and others. They feel the freedom-- sufficient technical facility and intuitive artistry-- to express whatever voice speaks in each moment. Annabel has relearned as an experienced violinist that we do well to view playing from a biodynamic perspective. That means extending the concept of instrument beyond the violin to the body-mind. Giving attention to subtle movements and holding patterns can make hours of practice unnecessary. This is part of a joyful, freeing approach wherein more of practice becomes play as challenges become gateways to greater fluency. Annabel believes that in this way, violinists can enjoy playing to their fullest capacity at any level.

"I highly recommend Miss. Ilona!

My 10 year old boy/girl twins have had lessons with Miss. Ilona for several months. Miss. Ilona, who is classically trained, not only keeps a nice balance between theory and performance, but also accommodates my twins' interests in contemporary music by helping them with their Spring Choral Concert music.

Every teacher has a point of view, personal preferences, and methodological bias that may fit one child but may not fit another child as well. Miss. Ilona, however, constantly leaves her doors open to communicate and listen, and make an effort to understand how my twins feel about the lesson material. She constantly adapts the material and tries new approaches to make them better violinists.

What I like most about Miss. Ilona is that she is willing to provide her students with opportunities to participate in Fund Raising and charity events by donating their musical talents. This allows her students to give back to the community what they have learned. On April 17, 2015 my twins performed at Theosophical Society Fund Raising at Deerfield Beach. On May 30, 2015, they performed at Children’s Oasis International Fund Raising to "enable today youth be tomorrow's leaders” in Africa.

After those events, my son wrote in his essay, “What matters to me most is to make people happy by doing what I enjoy doing…… While we played, the audience was very happy and cheered us after each song. It really made us feel so good…… After the performance, many people came to us and thanked us to play music for them. It really made us feel appreciated and so special. When I hear people saying they raised a lot more money thanks to us, I feel so blessed. I am proud that I can make difference by doing what I enjoy doing……special thanks to my violin teacher, Miss. Ilona and my twin sister."

As Hillary Clinton said, "...it takes a village to raise a child (the traditional African proverb)" during her own presidential compaign during 2007, it seems to Miss. Ilona, raising a musical child is a collaborative business, a business that the teacher, the student and the parents have to run together in order to be successful. Collaborative decision making with a child requires a willingness to listen, negotiate and compromise. As Jessica Turner (music educator) argues music instructors know about teaching music, but when it comes to your child and how s/he learns, we parents are the expert. As an educator myself, I appreciate that Miss. Ilona lets me work together with her to ensure the fit and quality of my twins musical instruction. I feel fortunate that we have found such a great instructor for my twins!"

"Kelvin is an awesome teacher. I wanted to learn to play by ear, because that's the way I learned to play the guitar. I had been looking for a teacher for several weeks, and after contacting several teachers, most of them didn't respond. The one who did respond refused to teach me without sheet music. I was about to give up the whole idea of playing, but Kelvin took me on and has developed a method of teaching me without the burden of having to learn to read sheet music. My playing has improved with only four lessons! I highly recommend him as a teacher!"

"Dr. Kim helped me build the foundation to my violin playing. As a young learner at 8 years old, he shaped my technique and provided me with the guidance that helped me become the violinist I am today. I studied with Dr. Kim for 10 years up until I went to college, where I am earning a degree in music. I can attribute this privilege to Dr. Kim for pushing me to grow and for teaching me so much during my early years."

"Love my lessons

I am eighteen and have been playing the violin for about six years. I used to not like playing all that much and got frustrated with practicing. I started lessons with Autumn about three years ago and now really like playing and practicing. I can now shift and am starting vibrato which is super cool. I am moving to a new state but like my lessons so much I am going to continue lessons online."

I am an adult learner and felt very intimidated about learning the violin at 45. Autumn is very patient, understanding, and encouraging. I have been working with Autumn for about five years and am now able to play in a small adult orchestra and am one of the most advanced in the group thanks to her. Thank you."

"It has been such a great joy to see my son learning so much from Peter. His previous teacher did nothing to teach or improve his skills that I honestly went in to our first class with low expectations. I am very pleased to say how wonderful it has been to see how much my son has learned from the very first day with Peter. I am very happy to have found him. I would definitely recommend him for any of the instruments class' he teaches."

A Beginner's Guide to Violin Bows: 4 Details to Consider

Selecting a violin bow, much like choosing a guitar, can be a very subjective process.  To the uninitiated, it's "just a violin bow."  They're all the same, right?  Wrong.  To the seasoned violinist, the perfect bow will depend on the player's technique, playing style and overall personal preference.  There are several factors that can affect the sound of the bow on the strings, including strength, shape, and age of the bow. Most beginner violins come with bows that are perfectly fine, b …
