Having attended American school on the weekdays and a total-immersion Japanese school on the weekends (and coming home to parents who only spoke Japanese), I was lucky enough to grow up completely bi-lingual. With over a decade of experience teaching in private and classroom settings, I make my lessons fun, high-energy, and tailor-made to each individual. Please feel free to send me a message, and let's learn some Japanese! Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!

About Laura

Hello! I am a NYC-based singer, pianist, actress, and animal-lover. Born and raised in Los Angeles, my artistic career began as a classical pianist, performing in venues across California, Japan, and Austria from a very young age. As a singer, I performed around the world with the Broadway tour of

Laura was wonderful with my 5 year old girl, she was patient, energetic and her love for music showed through! My daughter has been very motivated to practice her songs to show "Ms Laura" next week. We look forward to working much more with Laura.

Amazing! Talented vocalist and pianist that communicates very well. Has great advice and wonderful personality. Great with kids.

I met Laura at Harvard University when we were both doing our MFA degrees in acting. Since our program was not a Musical Theater one and I was not a singer, I started to take private lessons with her to compliment some of the training in singing we were getting there.

Laura is a fantastic singer and actor. She has an incredible ear as well as great knowledge and experience of what makes a singing performance pop. All this makes her an outstanding coach.

Even now after graduation, I am still training with her. Our focus now is on continuing the development of my singing voice. My goal is to reach a level where I have the skill and confidence to audition professionally for musicals, and I know I am in great hands.

I grew up speaking both Japanese and English at home and understand the difficulty of trying to juggle both languages! Whether you want to learn a new language, or simply want to brush up on your Japanese skills, I am always happy to be of help! Lessons will include reading, writing, listening, and speaking (both formal and colloquial styles). I use the Genki and Tobira books and also like to introduce students to classic and modern Japanese literature as a way to enhance the students’ cultural knowledge. I welcome beginning and intermediate Japanese students!

Her pacing is great and makes sure that I understand the material as well as go over old material if I need help on it. She also always takes pauses to make sure I have everything written down as well as time to ask questions and explain her answers. Her teaching method is understandable and paced but is also challenging. Great teacher and I am excited for more lessons.

Our first initial experience was very positive, as was Mona. I enjoyed the extra attention to details, such as trying different playing techniques. As oppose to repeating the same technique to get different results. My son already looks forward to his next lesson with Mona.

Do you want to understand your favorite anime show, movies or Japanese culture better? Do you want to learn to crack jokes in Japanese and win any crowd over? Would you like to do business in Japan and need someone who can not only teach you the language, but cultural differences and etiquette so you can win over any client?

Japanese and English are polar opposites in many ways.
Sentence structures are upside down. English is written horizontally left to right, but traditional Japanese is written vertically right to left.
Communicating can be difficult when what can be spoken directly in English has to be said in more subtle ways in Japanese, and this miscommunication can cause relationships to break down.

My passion is to help people cross cultural barriers and make new friends.
Learning a new language can build confidence and expand your mind in ways you never thought possible!

One of the signs that you have truly mastered a language is to understand the humor. I can ...

Yet our shared lessons are still possible since Ms S tailors the lessons on the fly to accommodate our different skill levels. I also appreciate her giving us background info on her culture when it dovetails with our lesson."

We started working with Claire in late 2016 at the age of 14. It has worked out great! She is patient, professional and organized. She keeps us appraised of his progress.
