Tremendously knowledgeable and able to teach complex things very simply. Everything he taught me was so much more profound and important to understanding music that I could have imagined. Highly recommend him as a mentor if one is at all interested in music.

Awards include, multiple trophies, letters of excellence, 1st and 2nd place music proficiency medals 1974-1979. i have played on several studio recordings, commercials, albums, and CD's with talented artist. Learning to play from a DVD or the internet can not properly teach a beginner bass player, because there has to be student/teacher interaction, one has to already know how to play in order for a DVD to be effective, and truly believe one will still need an instructor. I enjoy teaching and playing bass. i teach (4 to 6 string), which includes learning to read bass clef notes, scales, chords, keys signatures and time on the music staff, etc., etc., i can teach tab also. i like to teach beginners to give them the correct and formal fingering techniques, then later if they like, they can go all willy nilly. i get satisfactory results. I also teach beginner guitar and piano, all the above applies to guitar and piano lessons, and music theory and ear training. i like using small i's

Ivan is a great tutor! He really helped me get a better understanding of music theory and also helped me improve my understanding of playing music on the piano overall. I used to take lessons at Axis Music Academy, which is a really well respected music learning institution. However, my instructor there focused more on getting me through the lessons then making sure I understood what was going on. I choose to continue my lessons with Ivan because I see my music comprehension growing and I feel that he knows exactly how to teach you to make sure you understand what your doing.

Nicholas C.

Garden City, MI

About Nicholas

Detroit native, Nicholas C. K., demonstrated an innate musical talent from a young age. His command of piano, guitar, trumpet and bass progressed to studies at both Columbia University in Chicago and Wayne State University in Detroit. Since age 16 Nic has toured the country sharing the stage with acclaimed rock acts such as; Tesla, Bret Michaels, 3 Doors Down and many others. He is currently endorsed by Warwick Basses.

Nicholas been a musician in some form or another for as long as he can remember. His musical journey started when he was only six, with a delve into the realm of classical pi
ano. While there he studied under world class child prodigy Josh Cullen. The composers that he studied include Bach, Beethoven, Barton, Hayden and many others.

From here he progressed to playing jazz trumpet, studying the Jamey Aebersold method under Paul Finkbeiner, the lead trumpet player for the Paul Keller Ensemble.

Then at the age of 11, with the help of his grandfather he discovered the guitar. He learned quickly on his old SR guitar. He quickly discovered that he had a natural taste for blues phrasing, and his soloing abilities quickly blossomed. 2 years later, he had formed his first band, Spherical. It was through this band that he found the bass.

His journey into the realm of bass, began out of necessity and progressed into love of the bottom end. Since then, he has been collecting basses, playing, living and breathing bass. He now realizes the importance of a funky beat, a subtle line and most important of all A Tight Groove!!!

The benefit of studying under someone with a vast array of both talent and experience is clear.
