Sylvia is calm and supportive. I am just restarting my lessons and it can be frustrating. Sylvia is patient and stays with my strengths, while encouraging me to work on the areas that are difficult. Really appreciate her style, so far.

Barbara D.

Twinsburg, OH

About Barbara

Learning to play a musical instrument is a skill that has been proven to improve brain activity. It is one of the only activities to engage both sides of the brain. Students who learn a musical instrument show improvement in their ability to pay attention and understand what is being taught in their academic classes. Most students retain this advantage even if they do not continue to play into adulthood.

Music is fun! It also can express your feelings in ways words cannot. I don't just teach you how to play your instrument, I will teach you to have a love for your music, and from that,
you will find that it is a lot of fun! After all, you do "play" your instrument!

In addition to the violin, viola and theory lessons described below, I am also available to coach ensembles. Any combination of string instruments you are working with, I will work with your group to improve your cohesiveness and your musical style.

Nice to have the one on one teaching experience. If you have an issue she can stop you right on the spot that is giving you an issue and tell you what your are doing incorrectly. She also tells you what you are doing right.

She was very patient with me (a brand new student). She showed me a lot of tips and gave me insight to the violin that I did not know. Definitely worth the lesson

I while ago, I was afraid to even learn a language. I thought I wasn't smart like other people who learn languages and understand them. I soon began to think that maybe, just maybe I could. So I gave it a try, I tried learning on my own and then met and friend who was also learning the same language. We studied and helped eachother but I felt like I just couldn't do it. It was too hard for me, the letters, the grammatical rules. I just couldn't understand. I then thought well maybe I shouldn't be doing this, maybe I should give up. I didn't want to, even though I thought I should. I decided not to, we then began to look for tutors. For a while we couldn't find any but we stumbled across Suji! She replied to my message and said that she could help. She was the only tutor that reached out to us and I highly appreciate her for that. However even after we had found Suji, before we started our actual lessons. I thought, well what if I still don't get it? What if Suji can't really help me? I regret thinking that way, the first day we met Suji and had our first lesson. I walked out of there with so much more information than I already had. She explained so much about the language and the culture, she even gave us some new vocabulary words to study. As time went on we got to know Suji way better, I actually began to realize I know so much more than I did when I was studying alone. I realized that I could actually learn a language and acquire new information and keep it. There are even times where she's taught us so much I actually begin to think I'm fluent haha even though I'm nowhere near that level. I feel that way after almost every lesson. Suji is such a great person, she even discusses money problems with us. Whenever we have a problem she offers to help always! I really have no clue what I would have done without Suji. She's helped me out so much not only with the language but with myself. She became a really good fried & Shes helped me gain confidence as a person and I appreciate her for that. I'm really glad I met the best tutor ever & I can't wait to see what the future holds for us! 사랑해요 감사합니다 ~~

I believe SooJi is a very talented person. She's very good at teaching and helping me understand Korean. I almost never misunderstand anything she gives us. I have gotten this far in learning Korean because of her. I am very grateful. Without SooJi, I most likely would have quit learning. She is one of the very best teachers I've ever had. I would definitely recommend her to anyone trying to learn Korean. Not only is she a good teacher, but she's also a very friendly person. When you feel like you aren't doing well, she pushes you until you achieve what you need. I'm very glad my friend and I found her.

Excellent with children and I sure just as great with adults. My daughter LOVES and looks forward to her piano lessons with "Ms SooJi" although she is not entirely thrilled with her daily practice at home. SooJi provides excellent tips for helping her with tough spots and is equally challenging and encouraging. She is the best thing that happened for my 7 yr old who tends to want to quit when the going gets rough with anything, and it is a joy to hear how much she has learned in a year! I wish she could stick around long enough to teach my younger one as well. She is reliable and will go out of her way to provide make up lessons if needed. We have lessons in person during the school year and Skype lessons in the summer. I was initially skeptical about the quality of the Skype lessons when she suggested it, however by the end of the summer, I was totally surprised at how much my daughter learned, and I was not disappointed in the quality of the lessons
