I am a professional jazz musician, actively teaching and performing in the Western Massachusetts music scene. The best way to approach each lesson is from your own perspective of what YOU want to learn. I can assess your strengths and weaknesses and help you get to the point where you can play what you want, when you ...
I was interested in playing the guitar way back in 1964! Upon hearing the Beatles my dad bought me a Ukelele. The ukelele never got played but a friend gave me an old Sears Silvertone guitar when I was 11. Because I never took lessons I didn't know what a chord was. I finally started playing seriously in high school and formed a band. Upon graduating high school and after a year at the University of Connecticut, I attended the Hartford Conservatory where I received my associates degree in Jazz and Improvisation. I majored in guitar. I have studied with Tony Purrone, Dave Santoro. and Steve Famighlietti. I owned a music store from 1993 -2009. I have written and recorded songs that have received airplay in Connecticut and I have performed with Chris Tofield, Jimmy Griswold and ...
I am a recent graduate from UMass Amherst. I got my Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Performance. I have been playing the guitar for about 11 years now and have been formally trained in Jazz. I can also play Bluegrass, Rock, Acoustic, Country, Pop, Fusion, Funk, Jam and Singer/Songwriter. Any of these genres I'm able to teach and give insight about playing and performing. I've been gigging and giving lessons for a few years now and I will utilize my experiences to give the student the best musical education on the specific style or genre that wants to be learned.
All styles from shred to swing.

I teach all styles of guitar, on electric, acoustic and classical. I can show you how to read music in both standard notation and tablature. My goal is to teach you how to have fun and really enjoy making music and so I cater to each student's specific goals. (Not everyone wants to get up on stage and play!) I'll never yell at you for not practicing because I understand you have a life outside of guitar, but the more time you put in the sooner you'll be making music!
I'm a full time musician with over 20 years of experience in both teaching and performing. I currently travel up and down the east coast, from ME to FLA, with a band called Maxxtone. When I'm local, I sing and play guitar in an acoustic duo at various clubs, restaurants and private functions. I perform classical music for wedding ceremonies and private functions. I also teach private lessons on guitar, trumpet and trombone at the Wilbraham - Monson Acadamy. I started my teaching career at The Guitar Acadamy in Agawam when I was still in college studying music. I've since been teaching private lessons at students homes for the past 15 years. I really enjoy seeing my students grow in their musical capabilities, and I even have some former students that have gone on to have musical careers ...
