Learning to play guitar can be a daunting task. Don breaks it down into easy to understand lessons. After each lesson he sends me home with practice homework so I constantly feel like I'm making progress.

The most important thing for me when i wanted to take lesson was that the teacher new his stuff, Don definitely does. I'm not just learning to play guitar, i'm also learning more about music.

When looking for a guitar teacher for my daughter, I was so pleased to find Don. He knew exactly where to begin with her and started her playing music right away. His creative techniques keep her engaged and excitedly looking for what's coming next. He is professional, yet warm at the same time, putting both her and I at ease. It is amazing to see the transformation in my daughter's guitar abilities as well as the transformation in her confidence. Don's expertise and patience is perfectly blended.
Thanks Don!

Don has taught my son for over four years. He couldn't even read yet and Don was still able to get through to him. Great blend of modern rock and classics. Don blends the ability to teach skills, theory, and essential building blocks while also working in stuff that the students want to play.

Also, from a technology standpoint, Don uses a great site with file uploads, customize backing tracks and the ability to schedule. I would recommend to anyone interested in learning guitar from someone who cares about his students.

Kenya C.

Wyoming, RI

About Kenya

I started playing music in the fourth grade. My first instrument was the
cello. In fifth grade I changed my instrument to the violin and found that it was definately something I wanted to persue. A year later I started
on the piano, and unlike the violin, I found that it was easier to learn it on my own. Because of that, my knowledge on the piano has been mostly self taught. I have been playing both instruments going on 16 years, and even though I did
play other instruments, nothing took center stage like the
piano and violin.

Although I have never played in the Boston Philharmonic
or London
Symphony Orchestra's, nor have written or composed any CD's, doesn't
mean I don't have a passion for what I do. To me, music isn't just about playing in a large orchestra or being famous. It is about recognizing the many different styles from cultures all over the world. It is the ability to appreciate the sounds the reverberate across the spectrum, the ability to mix and match in order to create something new, and to think outside the box when it comes to inventing new ideas. To me, music is a form of art (just like dance, drawing and writing), and just like any form of art, there must be a spark of passion behind it, or it becomes meaningless.

*** Lesson Details ***
I have been teaching music for almost two years and I have experience in
musical influences from the baroque, classical, and romantic periods, 20th
century and contemporary music, ragtime and blues. My belief is that learning
music comes easiest when it is relatable to everyday life. It is relaxing and
teaches patience and coordination. It is also a way to release one's inner
artist.

My lessons will cover topics ranging from learning how to play (beginners),
improving your technique, your ear, sight-reading, music theory, and
improvisation.

It will include the application and utilization of the fundamentals of music
as an art, and will incorporate style, technique, and creativity.

Lessons will be individualized to encourage and inspire ones self to not only succeed in just music, but to succeed in life.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Books, computer, keyboard (weighted keys, sustain pedal), violin (student must have their own violin). Students are responsible for purchasing their own books (if the student is young, it is the responsibility of the parents) for their lessons after the first lesson.

I wish I could have continued my lessons. Hopefully I'll be able to continue this in the future, but wanted to say that Kenya is a very kind and patient teacher, and I hope to be able to take lessons from her again when the time comes. I really liked her approach to teaching an old dog like myself.

Kenya is a great teacher. She is very encouraging and has a good read on my 8 and 5 yr olds so as to not push too much but is by no means a push over. I like her soft spoken firm style.

In lessons, I find it important to work on tone production, technique, etudes for concentration, and a piece that the student and I pick out together. "The old myth that says, "You
either have it or you don't," is strictly a myth founded on ignorance and the inability (or unwillingness) of those who can play to share what they do verbally with those who think they can't learn."

Songwriting Tips: How to Write Lyrics To Your First Song
Are  you learning to play guitar because you want to be able to write your own songs? Guitar teacher Samuel B. shares some tips to help you write lyrics to your first song... Just as writing a song on guitar can seem like work for only a select few, so can writing the words to one. Once again, this assumption and the truth are completely unrelated. Are You Making the Most of Your Violin Practice?
Gifted musicians don't appear from nowhere fully-formed and ready to take to the concert platform.  For every 45-minute concerto or 90-minute recital you hear, hours of hard work have gone into every note, every phrase, and even how the music is approached, learned, and memorized! It may seem strange to say that proper practice is the most nerve-wracking element of mastering your violin, but if you don't know how to structure the session, how can you ever be sure that you're working on the righ
