Lucian W.

Miami, FL

About Lucian

Lucian W is an alumnus of Berklee College of Music in Boston and former faculty member of the Hartford Conservatory. His vocal studies have been with Jacqueline Jarrett and David Baker in Connecticut, Jane Ellison at Loyola University in Montreal, noted operatic tenor Carmine Gagliardi in New York City, and Gina Moretta (whose students have included Gloria Estefan and Jon Secada) in Miami. He studied privately with world famous jazz guitarists George Benson and Chuck Wayne and has had a full time performing career of several decades as a guitarist, pianist, vocalist, bassist, arranger and orc
hestra leader.
Lucian believes that by sharing his enjoyment of making music with his students, he can give them confidence in other areas. That is because, in order to make music, they must go through a process of physical discovery through practice. They are then empowered by experiencing the connections between inspiration, work, and pleasure.
He performs, as a solo entertainer, an unusually wide ranging repertoire because of his versatility on guitar, piano, and vocals. Being an accomplished arranger with a vast library of charts also allows him to lead a ten piece orchestra as competently as a trio or quartet. He has performed extensively in New York, Chicago, Cape Cod, and Florida.

*** Lesson Details ***
I always try to make lessons as comfortable and enjoyable as possible yet challenging enough to maintain interest. I build lessons around the student's individual interests (specific songs or styles) so that he or she can learn the technical fundamentals in a relevant context.
My own curriculum is supplemented by the following:
Guitar: Hal Leonard Guitar Method, Aaron Shearer Classical Guitar Method
Piano: Alfred's Basic Piano Course , John W. Schaum Piano Course
Voice: Jeffrey Allen's Secrets of Singing, Nicola Vaccai Practical Method

*** Studio Equipment ***
Hardman baby grand acoustic piano
OptimusMD1600 electronic keyboard
Crate TX50D guitar amplifer

*** Specialties ***
- Singing lesson time is generally divided 50/50 between voice building and repertoire. I accompany vocalists on both piano and guitar, teaching the melody notes as they are sung along with the piano. Then, once the melody is learned, I often switch to the guitar with just chordal backing. The acoustic guitar is also softer than the piano and lets the singer hear their own voice better. For voice building, I use my own concepts plus approaches of famous voice teachers like Jeffrey Allen, Seth Riggs, and Anthony Frissel.
- I am very experienced performing all styles of guitar and can cater to the student's specific area of interest, whether it be rock, folk, classical, or jazz.
- With piano, I work on fundamentals of reading and technique. Learning basic harmony and chord construction starting with triads (3 note chords), the student can soon read single stave lead sheets (a form of music notation widely utilized by professional musicians) as well as the grand staff. This approach trains the ear and makes learning how to play popular songs much easier.

Lucian will listen to whatever it is that you want to learn and give you all the building blocks to play how you want to play and explore your options on the neck in many different ways. I am a intermediate guitar player and within a few lessons with Lucian I was given tools to work on and practice for months to improve my skills and technique/ approach to playing. I would recommend his lessons to ANYONE looking to improve!

Julia B.

Miami, FL

About Julia

Hello, thank you for your interest in taking music classes and reading my profile! :)
My name is Julia Bova,

Over the past 15 years I have taught hundreds of classes both children and adults students. My specialties are:
1. Piano
2. Vocal
3. Music Theory
4. Music composition and improvisation class
5. Ear training

Learning about music can be complicated and confusing especially when there are so many courses; different methods available just click away on internet.
There are a lot to learn as notation, chords, rhythmical patterns, music terminology, music styles and s
o on.

It is like learning new language could be overwhelming and make many students give up on their dream.
Also learning on your own without any step by step instructions, easy- to follow method and goals in mind can make you frustrated and lose your motivation and enthusiasm very fast.

I've been studying music since I was 6 years old. First 7 years in Music school, than 4 years of Music college and another 4 years in Conservatory of Music in Kazakhstan. I graduated as a choir conductor, pianist and vocalist. With 15 years of music studying and 15 years of teaching piano and voice to hundreds of students of all levels I know all struggles and obstacles you might have and I know what works to overcome it and be the best musician you can be!

For me teaching music classes it's not just assignment to make my students understand the concept and develop skills, but much more;

1. First of all, I must know a student's need.

Why do you want to learn?
What is behind of that intention?
What is your goal and how I can help you reach it?
Sometimes we discovering it together in the process of learning setting new and new goals as you progress.

I will be able to help you better and take you to the direction you want to go to after identifying the starting point, where do we begin?

2. Second, I believe that any learning will be successful if you are having fun and good time doing it, feeling encouraged. I'm very generous in praising to my students, high fives, hugs, stickers any anything to make my students feel good about accomplishing even small assignment.
I also know that If you feel bored or frustrated you not going to stick for a long time with your commitment and you not going to learn anything.

Playing a musical instrument or singing is a very personal experience and I design my classes and choose music and techniques the way that it is suit your level and fit your personality.
I try to make my classes fun, challenging and building the momentum so you can get most out the class and most importantly you are having fun while learning and engaged in the process.

3. Third, For my piano, voice and theory classes I use easy to follow method of developing skills, techniques and understanding of the concept. I always break challenging parts in small steps which is makes it easy to understand and learn.

4. Forth, you will always have a goals set up and quick start action plan which is broken into small easy assignments.
The quick start plan shows exactly how you can get going in record time and get off to a great start. For that purpose I use different method books and different music pieces.

You have a clear direction what your goals are and how to achieve them and progress when you practicing on your own.

5. Teaching my students is not a job for me, it's enjoyment and commitment to share my passion for music and knowledge, inspire and encourage them. Music has changed my life and I hope I'll help you to change yours!

My goal is to make every class to be built around these 5 aspects mentioned above, as well as provide value, demonstrate and encourage.

My mission to make sure that my students learning in their own speed without any pressure, without feeling overwhelmed or frustrated, understanding the concept I am teaching to.
Also I want to make sure that they are œwalking out of class with a sense of accomplishment and understanding the concept which is important for making progress and moving forward.

Lastly , I am committed to success of my students and eager to build long term relationship with them.
I'm flexible and committed, some of my students have been with me

Lesson process:
I am teaching one on one classes in my home studio here in North Miami Florida, or via Skype or Google+ Hangout , you could be anywhere in the world and take class with me.

The time of the lessons may vary,
I usually suggest 30 min a trial lesson to œmeet and greet, as well as establish goals.
We will talk about schedule and will set up a regular schedule around convenient time for both.

1. Beginners are taken through the fundamentals.

2. You will explore a range of pieces to expand your skills and begin to identify your preferences.

3. On first lesson you will be learning new exercises to get you started and homework assignments.

4. Also you going to get work/method book and practice plan

Good luck and hope I can help you to take piano playing, singing or music writing to the next level!
If you have any question prior to signing up you are welcome to contact me through Q&A.

Best regards,

Julia Bova

I've had several piano teachers in the past but i would put Julia hands down as the best ive had. She is more than your typical teacher she is a mentor and a friend. She really cares about you reaching your goals and takes the time to find exactly what are your needs and ellaborate a strategy to acomplish them together. And aside from being an excellent teacher, she really is an excellent person that has cared and motivated me throught out my musical journey with her :) So you really cant go wrong choosing her as a teacher, wheter for piano, voice, accompaniment or anything that involves music!

Introduction to Reading Violin Tabs
Tablature is a form of musical notation that was invented to make reading music easier for fretted and string instruments like guitar, bass, and violin. The premise is operationally-based, meaning that rather than showing rhythm, duration, and pitch, violin tabs will show the player where and when to place their fingers on the instrument. For an improvising musician, violin tabs allow you to improvise while staying within the chord structure of a song. Tablature-style notation is most commonly
