About Anna

I have played piano for 20 years and sang almost as long. I had professional voice lessons from Daniela Opravialova, retired opera singer, for 6 years and have performed on local stages in several leading roles. I am a proficient sight reader who participated in All State Chorus for 6 years and was awarded the music departmental plaque for the class of 2004. I have a focus on opera, musical theater, folk, and intermediate piano.

of curriculum varying from theory (to teach you how to read your music) to vocal techniques and performance pieces. In a few months I will have your vocal range strengthened and you will play piano with more confidence. I will start with your lowest ability and work up to more difficult pieces whether in piano, voice, or both.

Hi there Ms. Anna, I am hoping to have you as a teacher for singing lessons, but I have one request. My dad doesn't want to pay using his credit card, so is there any way we can pay using checks or cash? I would really like for you to be my singing instructor. Please email me at lanbui0430@gmail.com as soon as you make up your mind, thank you very much! Hopefully you read this review, as I didn't know any other way to reach you.

I had my first lesson singing lesson ever as well as my first lesson with Ms. Anna yesterday. Ms. Anna is a great instructor who makes her students feel comfortable to learn, make mistakes and grow without any pressure to be perfect. She listens to what her students want from their experience and sets goals to better help you achieve them. Overall Ms.Anna is a great instructor who I would recommend to anyone wishing to learn or better themselves as a singer.

Wonderful voice teacher for my daughter

Anna has a beautiful voice and works with my daughter on the music she wants to sing, but also encourages her work with many other different types of music as well to broaden her experience. My daughter's voice has gotten stronger, her range has increased and she has become much more confident since she has been working with Anna. She looks forward to her voice lessons every week.

Camden was an excellent instructor for our 13 year-old daughter. Although we had a handful of scheduling issues where timing was not communicated clearly by the instructor in every case (hence the reduction from 5 stars to 4), when he was present he was patient, engaged and really focused on finding ways to get our daughter to enjoy the learning process.

Linda is very patient with my Asperger's/ADHD son. She has offered several different ways to approach his math work and clearly was thinking about new approaches between visits. She is a kind, gentle woman and having her help with the work has been so helpful. She even spent extra time to show him some guitar, in case we want to take lessons (upon my request because we're interested in that). Linda has offered advice on several resources that I didn't know about for my journey to assist my son with his challenges. We have been very happy with Linda.

Mary Frances K.

Peachtree Corners, GA

About Mary Frances

Biography - Mary Frances K. has been teaching voice since 1991. She works with youth and adults, beginner and advanced. She helps voice students develop a healthy, beautiful sound, proper placement and projection of the voice for singing and speaking. Her goal is to help singers gain fulfillment and joy while improving their art.

Voice students of hers have won university voice scholarships and have been accepted into Allstate Chorus for High School in Georgia and other voice programs at the college level. She has taught in her home, and for Music Life Studio.

She also teac
hes piano. She has taught piano for about 8 years. She studied piano privately for 10 years and had further study at Indiana University. She accompanies herself in her own vocal study and rehearsals for synagogue choir practice. She believes music should be fun and rewarding.

Students wishing to have any combination of piano, music theory and/or vocal development can receive a program of study that meets their individual needs.

Mary Frances has performed with the Southeastern Savoyards Light Opera Company, the Atlanta Opera Chorus and Studio, the Atlanta Symphony Chorus, Marietta Theater in the Square, and Neighborhood Playhouse. She has sung title roles in Patience, Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel. Other roles include Josephine in HMS Pinafore, the Princess in The Student Prince, and Connie in The 1940'™s Radio Hour.

She has performed many roles with Capitol City Opera Company (CCOC) including Annina in The Saint of Bleecker Street, Bastienne in Mozart's Bastien and Bastienne, Nora in Vaughan Williams™ Rider™s to the Sea, and Gilda in Milton Granger™s Talk Opera. She sang for many years in CCOC'™s school outreach program. She has sung many concerts for CCOC as well.

Mary Frances was a soloist in Handel'™s Messiah for Peachtree Presbyterian Church. She has worked as the soloist at The First Church of Christ Scientist in Roswell, Georgia and continues as a soloist at The Second Church of Christ Scientist in Sandy Springs, Georgia. She has occasionally directed the choir at Congregation Dor Tamid in Alpharetta, Georgia.

She holds a bachelors degree from Indiana University School of Music in both Voice and Theater. Mary Frances continues her education as a long time student of Elizabeth Colson of Atlanta, Georgia. Recommendations for Lesson Length - Voice students: 30 minutes for young students up to 5th grade. 45 minutes for young students in Middle School and some 5th graders. 45 or 60 minutes preferred for high school students and adults. Piano students: 30 minutes for most beginners of any age. 45 minutes for young intermediate level and adult students.

Teaching Style and Curriculum - My teaching style is relaxed yet progressive. I use positive reinforcement to encourage progress with adults and children. Students are allowed to progress at their own pace which varies with age, coordination, processing speed and previous exposure to musical education.

I prefer the Alfred'™s Basic Piano Library series for my piano students. I find that my students learn more music theory and music reading with this series. If the student has started lessons in a different series, I can work with that as well. I have a large music library that provides a wide selection of music in addition to the Alfred books. I expect most beginning students to learn basic music reading and theory in 3 to 6 months. They should also to be able to play simple tunes in that time. I am an active professional singer, so I have a large library of vocal material at my disposal.

I begin my voice lessons with breathing techniques and vocal placement using widely accepted exercises coming from a large body of sources such as:
Vaccai, professional level vocal teachers, coaches and directors that I have worked with and learned from over the last 30 years, and the writings of highly acclaimed authors in the vocal field. I also have a wide selection of art song books, oratorio, musical theatre, and opera. My background is classical and musical theatre,
but I believe all styles of singing need the basic skills of breathing and vocal placement. I strive to keep voices healthy as well as find each student's most beautiful sound. Most students will see progress in breath control, range, projection and diction in 3 to 6 months.

Repertoire is chosen on an individual basis depending both physical and musical ability. Younger students and beginners will be encouraged to not push their voices with material that is too difficult for their individual abilities because singing requires a certain amount of physical endurance. My goal is to find each student's natural sound without strain for whatever style he or she
sings.

Hi--Mary Frances suggested that we go with 45-minute sessions, and I agree. We ran over about 15 minutes yesterday, so could you change my 30-minute charge to a 45-minute charge starting with yesterday's session? Then could you let me know once this change has been made so I can let her know? She will then change the schedule accordingly. Thanks, David
