Music Lessons in Norfolk, VA

Virginia is full of talented musicians, but they don't often get the recognition they deserve. Country legend Roy Clark is from Meherrin, and jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald was from Newport News. Norfolk also laid the foundation for hip-hop musician and producer Timbaland and rock-and-roll legend Clarence Clemons, saxophone player for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band.

Norfolk music lessons have helped local talent become legends, and the one-on-one attention is an essential part of any musician's path to success. Even the best musicians need instructors to hone their talents and give them the industry secrets before they can make an impact in the business.

TakeLessons is the nation’s premier provider of music lessons, with pre-screened instructors to ensure your safety and an excellent experience. Moreover, your first lesson comes with a 100% Money Back Guarantee, so there is no risk to signing up. We’ll set you up with the best teacher for you, based on your needs, goals and interests. You can easily find a studio location near your home, or select a teacher who will travel to you!

Music lessons in Norfolk include music theory, performance technique, recording practices, vocals and even the art of songwriting. A wide range of instruments are also covered including guitar, drums and percussion, piano and violin.

TakeLessons connects you with local musicians who will share their musical secrets to help you grow as an artist. Contact us today to book your first lesson toward becoming a Norfolk legend!

Cara M.

About Cara

Hi there! My name is Cara Isadora McKinney. I am an award winning vocalist and experienced performer who loves to teach singing. My goal is to demystify vocal technique for students and help them “find their voice" pretty quickly with patience and care in a safe and friendly environment. In a relaxed, positive, and supportive atmosphere; students will improve their breath control and support, projection, phrase length, range, intonation, quality, comfort, stage performance and presentation skills, as well as other technical and stylistic aspects. I am currently available to teach lessons at my
studio, at your home, and online.

My credentials and affiliations include a Bachelor's in Vocal Music from Lamar University, Hurrah Players, Governor's School for the Arts, and VA Opera. I specialize in opera and musical theater. I also record and perform pop, rock, R&B, and jazz. Trained by some of the best artists and teachers in Virginia and Texas, I have gained extensive knowledge in vocal pedagogy that has allowed me to become versed in numerous styles and crossover genres. Contact me and we can discuss in more detail want you are looking for in a voice teacher, your vocal goals and experiences, as well as availability and location details. Cara is a library of information and tools to help you learn how to sing. She encourages her students to practice and learn proper form. With her help I've found my voice and am encouraged to continue perfecting it. She also helped me with some bad habits that I had picked up but now know better. I highly recommend Cara and she is a true professional with a beautiful voice who knows how to teach!

I only had one lesson with Cara but she was very experienced and did her best to bring out the singer in me. She found songs that would suit me and she put a lot of effort into making that first lesson as valuable to me as it could be. I really felt like she cared deeply about my progress which meant a lot to me.

Karen is thorough. You will find out immediately that she will find your weaknesses and work on those. She is a pro - she knows what she is doing and she knows what her students need. She listens to what her students want to accomplish and then she will add to her responses extra instructions that will focus on big picture success. She really understands the difference between playing alone and playing with a group. She knows exactly how every band member will respond to what you are playing.

Lydia M.

Chesapeake, VA

About Lydia

When I was about to turn 8, I asked my parents for a violin as a birthday present! I have loved playing ever since. My mom is a piano teacher, so I learned to play the piano as well. I have played in orchestras, chamber strings, and quartets in Paraguay, Brasil, Guatemala, and the United States. The beauty of music is that it crosses all borders!
I was born and raised in Paraguay but I came to the USA to go to college. Currently, I am working on a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I'm optimistic, responsible, and want to help others reach their full potential.

Andrew has been teaching my 11 year old daughter Ukulele lessons for several months. He is a great instructor and especially good at working with youth, as he is patient and understanding. He makes the lessons and learning fun, which has encouraged my daughter to want to practice her Ukulele at home on her own, without me having to ask her to practice her lessons. She has loved having Andrew as her instructor and I would highly recommend him for both youth and adults!
