Casey C.

Atlanta, GA

I have developed a natural teaching method that focuses on learning and understanding the building blocks of drum set playing, familiarizing and connecting these building blocks, and applying them to individual expression. I have the ability to take nearly anyone without prior drum set or rhythmic experience, and, within days, turn them into beat playing drummers! My approach focuses on:
-building an understanding and relationship with each drum
-the basic rudimentary foundation of drumming
-how to approach the drums, hold the sticks, set up the drums, and tune the drums
-basic mechanical techniques
-development of each limb
-learning how to read basic drum charts and play to them
-learning and playing the most significant beats and patterns in the history of drum set
-gaining the ability to effectively teach oneself how to improve as a drummer
-learning your favorite songs on drums
-how to play in a band

About Casey

Hi I'm a 29 year old professional musician that has worked hard to become a first call drummer for performance, instruction, and studio session work in the Atlanta area. Over the past 5 years I have toured nationally, recorded with countless regional, national and local artists, and have gained a positive reputation in the Atlanta community as a unique, innovative, and passionate drum teacher. I studied music at The University of Mississippi and I am qualified to teach numerous styles including Rock, Pop, Hip Hop, Jazz, Electronica, World and many others. I have years of experience teaching
private and group lessons (I'm a recurring Camp Counselor in Summer music programs). I offer inspired beginning drummers of all ages the chance to learn the art of drum set playing within a basic, relaxed, and fun context.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My drum studio includes 2 drum kits to help aid in visual learning, percussion instruments from around the world, a PA system to play along to music and great vibes!

*** Travel Equipment ***
For student's home lessons I require at least one drum or drum set.

Drum- Let me bring my over 40 years of performance, and over 30 years of teaching experience to your drum lessons.

About Bill

I am a career musician and teacher. I am always looking for more good students, performance opportunities and studio session work. I began playing drums at the age of 10. I hold a Bachelor's degree, and am a Magna Cum Laude graduate of GA State University's Commercial Music Recording / Production program. I studied with Atlanta Symphony Principal Percussionist - Jack Bell, Mike Cebulski - Atlanta Ballet, Mark Yanchich - Atlanta Symphony, Robbie Coleman - Freddy Cole, and Ted Howe. As a career musician, I have played drums and percussion in more than 100 bands to date, touring mainly in the Eas
tern US, from the Mississippi east. I have performed with members of the Allman Bros., The Derek Trucks Band, The Atlanta Symphony, Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, The Dixie Dregs, Boston, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Col. Bruce Hampton's Aquarium Rescue Unit, Blue Note recording artists Marcus Printup, Russell Malone, and many, many more. Let me tap on my vast knowledge and experience on the drums to provide you guidance as you travel your path to becoming all you can be on drums.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach all styles, ages, and skill levels, and I am here to help you.
I am serious about drums and drumming, but I do want you, the student to be
comfortable in the lesson setting, so you will find I teach in a casual
manner. I want you to have fun while you learn how to play! For your first
lesson all you need is a pair of drumsticks and a plain spiral bound
notebook. I will go over some basics, like how to hold the sticks, how to
move the sticks, and begin introducing you to the rudiments of drums. I feel
it is important that you learn how to read drum music, so I will have you
get a good method book. I prefer Haskall Harr's Snare drum Method, Book I.
For the drum set, I will write out exercises that start simple and build from
there. I always try to give you info that is practical, and you can use to
play music you choose. As time goes by, you will find yourself building
confidence and competence as you meet and exceed your goals on your
instrument. I will always encourage you to ask questions so can tailor the
info to meet your specific needs and desires. If you have already been
playing for a while, and need help, I encourage you to come to me. I will
give you new good information, and help find the holes in your abilities, and
fill them as you work towards your individual goals of becoming the kind of
performer you want to be. Thanks for your time, I look forward to hearing
from you!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lesson room - Separate from main house. Seating for parents available.

*** Specialties ***
On the snare drum, or pad, I focus on the tradition of drums and drumming through the rudiments, concert style, and reading. On the drum set, I teach all styles of rock, jazz, fusion, R and B, country, blues, zydeco, and even polkas, etc.

I've only been going for a month or so, but have been really impressed being a first-timer in the field of music. Despite not playing any instrument before, he's been a big help not worrying about the overwhelming feeling of having so much to learn - focusing on one thing at a time.

He obviously very much knows what he's talking about and seems to be good at picking up things that I may not of noticed just following online courses only.

I started pretty late in life taking drum lessons, 49. Met Bill and have been drumming ever since. For the first few years I studied weekly with Bill and have continued off and on ever since. He has given me a better understanding of different types of music as well helping to instill the confidence and discipline to stick it out through the early, clumsy phases of learning and through his encouragement made it fun. As a teacher, I don't see how he could be beat. He has a very large knowledge base, great sense of humor, and shows keen interest in what direction his students want to go. Not to mention, he's a damn good drummer!

I have been taking lessons on and off for about 10 years with Bill. No matter how good I have become, there is always something more that Bill can teach me. He makes lessons fun and always has me playing music that I enjoy. My band mates love what he's done for me as well. lol

For most of us drummers and rhythmatists we cannot go an hour without banging something or tapping or humming or moving.. if this describes you or your child then Im the guy who would be delighted to foster your development in your lifelong pursuit of the ultimate beat. I cannot give you God given talent , but I can take what talent god has given you and accentuate the positive. Work with you on fundamentals, technique, timbre, timing, tuning, sight reading..the list goes on..Its a lifelong pursuit..How long you choose to pursue it is up to you.. Im here to be your mentor.

Im pretty laid back with teaching discipline. Either you got it or you dont. I cannot push you or force you into practicing.. You must inherently love music and love rhythm and love drumming or percussion. If I am working with you on Kit drumming you will be starting out with the basics unless you have experience. I normally do an assessment to determine where you are at.. If I am teaching you hand percussion or African or Asian based drums then its strictly an aural based learning experience. No books just memorization. Kit drumming will require either you have your own Drum kit if I am coming to your house or of you travel to my studio I will have 1 drum kit to share , but you must have your own sticks. I do employ books in Drum Kit lessons. I will give you the names of the books based on what I think your level is and we can go from there..

Music is a complex yet beautiful language. Once you are immersed in the culture of the beat your journey thus begins. And journeys like these last a lifetime. I hope I can be a part of your experience.

Many Blessings

Donnie H.

Drumming for over 20 years and a graduate from Berklee School of Music, I focus on creating a unique and exciting lesson plan for each of my students. Whichever styles you choose to focus on, each lesson will lead you closer to your goals. Things we can cover include:
- Learning drums from square one
- Taking your skills to the next level and learning advanced techniques
- Learn how to decide which grooves/fills to play in the context of the music
- Hand to hand and limb independence
- Improving your reading/sight reading
- Getting your marching and rudimental chops up
- Concert percussion lessons in both drums and mallets
- Preparing for an audition for All State, Honor Band, or College

About Donnie

Hello! I have been playing the drums since I was 3 years old and have always loved to share my joys of playing music. I have been fortunate to study under the best performers in the world and have applied their knowledge into my lesson plans for each student.

I am a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston where I studied many styles of music including Rock, Pop, Funk, Blues, Jazz, Latin, and Brazilian, as well as music theory courses from classical theory to advanced jazz theory. I have years of experience teaching students as Director of Percussion at the Woodward A
cademy, South Cobb High School, and as well as teaching privately.

With each student I create a unique lesson plan that aligns to their goals and current skill level. Lessons are taught so that the process can be ENJOYED; music needs to make us happy both in creating and listening. Music theory and concepts are taught alongside technique and "chops" to ensure a well-rounded musician is formed.

This guy is the real deal. I'm a very experienced intermediate level drummer looking to take my skill to the next level. He listened to me play for a few minutes and immediately developed a game plan. Donnie is an incredibly nice guy, and an exceptionally good teacher. I took a chance on him since he didn't have many reviews, but I'm glad I did. A+, would definitely recommend Donnie to anyone.

I've known Donnie for a long time.... I like to call him my colleague, but really , you might say I have learned some of my own most valuable lessons, and insights through his extraordinary Talen,t coupled with an extraordinary ability to communicate helping students their learning needs, concisely explaining Concepts , and through complete Mastery of his crafts, I would say that he would be your best option as far as any musical instructor, especially available here online... he outo be teaching in an Ivy League school. I could go on, but his credentials are obviously as good as it gets. Go ahead and stop searching and just hire this guy
