Isaac L.

Boston, MA

My primary goal with all of my students is to help them make great music that is true to themselves. What this means for my teaching is a focus on training both the ears and technique. I always prefer a more personalized approach to teaching, working with students to find repertoire that speaks to them and improves their musicality and technique.

About Isaac

Hello! I am currently a student at New England Conservatory of Music studying Jazz Bass Performance. I am completing my last semester of my undergraduate degree and will be graduating in the spring of 2016.

I have a background in Jazz and Classical primarily on the upright bass however I also regularly preform the electric bass and love to teach both.

My private studies thus far in my career have been with Mark Pucci, Rick McLaughlin, Cecil McBee, John Lockwood, Dave Holland, Hankus Netsky, John McNeil, Don Palma, Frank Carleberg, Jason Moran and Miguel Zenon

I have just begun lessons with Isaac. He is an excellent teacher; attuned to my needs, very good at explaining things, patient, very good at getting me to understand what I need to know. I look forward to learning upright bass with him!

Rob has been a consummate professional and a great teacher! He is reliable, communicates promptly, and tailors each lesson to my needs/strengths. He has been particularly helpful in identifying new ways to explain and demonstrate complex techniques to those of us new to string instruments!

Darren S.

Boston, MA

I specialize in orchestral audition preparation, particularly if a student is considering taking an audition for a regional festival, All-State festival, or a conservatory audition for an undergraduate or graduate degree program. I typically concentrate on classical orchestral excerpts and the standard solo bass repertoire, so most of the material will be accessible for free on IMSLP in pdf format. If any material is not accessible from IMSLP, I will scan and attach the music via e-mail.

About Darren

Born in New York City, Darren Sacks enjoys a varied career as a double bassist including performing in symphony orchestras and teaching privately. He has performed professionally with several Connecticut orchestras including the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra, the New Britain Symphony, and the Wallingford Symphony. Mr. Sacks is the recipient of significant awards including the Hartt Performing Arts Scholarship and the Boston Conservatory Scholarship. Prior to attending music school, Sacks was principal bassist of the Connecticut Youth Symphony and also participated in both the Connecticut Nor
thern Region High School Music Festival and the Connecticut All-State Festival. Sacks currently studies with Lawrence Wolfe, assistant principal bassist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Sacks graduated summa cum laude from the Hartt School of Music and is currently a graduate student at the Boston Conservatory.

Harrison G.

Boston, MA

Experienced music teacher of 4 years available for eager students of all experience levels! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of theory skills. I specialize in classical, upright bass, typically using multiple technique books in my lessons.

About Harrison

I am a professional musician; my life is entirely about playing music, writing music, and teaching music. While I am primarily a classically trained string bass player, I also play and teach electric bass, piano, and violin. In the past I have toured across Europe, conducted various orchestras, and received many performance-based awards.

Currently, I am studying at The Boston Conservatory (which will soon be merging with the Berklee School of Music). My ideology is that we should always try to be the best that we can be, and never settle for anything less. I believe that if you look for th
e beauty in life, happiness will find you.

Marcelo M.

Boston, MA

My classes are very flexible when it comes to what the student wants. I can go from just teaching very basic bass playing to advanced harmonic concepts and jazz improvisation. On the first class, I give the student the choice of controlling our lessons materials about what they want to learn. Or the student can choose to let me control our classes, in which I will bring my own materials and ideas in which we should work and will go through the whole academic process of learning music.

About Marcelo

Mainly Jazz player. Also teach beginner bow technique and pop and jazz repertoire. Very strong theory and ear training teacher. Also Improvisation teacher.
