Michael P. Roxbury Crossing, MA

Where trombone is my specialty, trumpet is quite similar to trombone requiring the same fundamentals of tone quality, range, articulation and music theory. I would work best with somebody still working on technique, repertoire, and will encourage the learning of improvisation (not necessarily jazz!).

About Michael

Boston native, Michael P. is currently studying trombone at New England Conservatory, expecting to receive his BFA in Jazz Performance with NEC's Music-In-Education (MIE) Concentration in Spring 2014. NEC has provided Michael a great variety of playing experiences and opportunities having played in their big bands, jazz combos, Latin jazz ensemble, Eastern European Jewish music ensemble and more. Michael is currently the trombonist and booker for Mozambican Afro-Pop group Kina Zoré. Grand Prize Winners of the 2012 John Lennon Song Writing Competition and 2011 Peacedriven Award. They are a regionally touring act playing in Boston, Vermont, Rhode Island, New York and elsewhere. When he's not playing with Kina Zoré, Michael also plays regular performances with Jae Cheol Oh ...

Puts a student at ease!

When I started lessons with Michael, I was experienced on one brass instrument and a beginner on another one. He was able to show me some useful things about the instrument I was new on, and help me keep going on the one I was already familiar with.

One thing that really stood out for me: I've always been too embarrassed to improvise musically, especially in front of anyone, but Michael got me improvising--and enjoying it!--during our very first lesson. I was impressed!
Matt H. Allston, MA

Determined to meet the students needs and to provide a focus to help create a successful and meaningful partnership with their instrument.

I provide a focus on the fundamentals of trumpet playing as well as cater to the student's interests/ambitions and stretch outside the classic trumpet repertoire for a more contemporary approach. (Students will study from classic technique books like the Arban's and Clarke studies, learn tunes by ear, practice improvisation techniques, and most importantly learn how to have fun playing the trumpet!)

About Matt

Matt H. is a Boston-based trumpet player and composer born and raised in the city's South End. He is a contributing member of the eclectic improvisation collective "Jackie Molasses", plays in local funk group "The New Review", a member of the live band of the emerging hip hop duo "The Urban Nerdz" and a member of the indie/punk group "People Like You". Along with his regular music commitments, Matt frequently does session work and work for hire as a freelance trumpet player, composer, and private trumpet/composition teacher in the greater Boston area. He has performed with a diverse group of artists including The Plain White T's, I Kill Giants, and spoken word poets John Sands and Ken Arkind to name a few. Matt has performed at many of Boston's foremost venues and bars and coming from a

About sean

I am a Berklee College of Music Alum with an emphasis in trumpet performance. I play Guitar, Piano, and Sing in my own projects. As an instructor, I provide a unique view point on performing music through an experiential atmosphere. Music is an expressive language and in order to understand it, there are very systematic and simple ways to do so. Theory, harmony, performance, and practice are all facets that stem from a very common point. Interest. It is important for the student to be learning music that they are interested in, not music that is " best to learn from". If given the right keys, a student can learn a piece without having a teacher shepherd them through it. This means a student learns how to hear what they like from a song. Not what theoretically makes up the song. ...

Sean is patient, skilled and diligent. We are very pleased with his teaching so far. One of my sons is taking piano and the other guitar and both of them love taking lessons with Sean. He really adapts each lesson to the individual child's interests and skill level. I would highly recommend him.
Matt P. Cambridge, MA

I've been playing trumpet for about 17 years now and have played just about every style there is. I can work on tone, flexibility, dexterity, range, or any other problem you're having.

About Matt

Hi! My name is Matt, and I'm teaching lessons in an eclectic group of fields. I started piano at age 5, and since then I've picked up a large array of instruments. I'm teaching piano, trumpet, and horn lessons for beginners and intermediate players. I can teach general skills or do audition prep. I have a bachelor's degree in EECS from MIT, and I'm teaching math, physics, and programming, including test prep. I can teach out of my apartment in Cambridge during the day, or I can travel to you if you're T-accessible. Though I prefer to teach in person, I can also teach via Skype if needed.

Jenn A. Hyde Park, MA

I am an experienced performer, composer, and educator working in the Boston area since 2008. I have a dual Bachelor's of Music degree at Berklee College of Music in both trumpet performance and jazz composition and a Master's of Music Degree from the New England Conservatory in Jazz Composition. I have taught pupils aged 4-60 with every amount of experience. Since no two students have interests which are exactly alike, I work with my students to tailor curriculum to suit their exact needs.

About Jenn

I am an experienced and versatile musical performer, composer, and educator who has experience working with pupils of all levels aged four to sixty. I have held teaching positions at music schools and summer programs offering education in music, theater, movement, visual arts, and technology. Some of my additional experience includes developing curriculum, organizing and scheduling youth music programs, and instructing a bilingual classroom of English and Spanish speakers. I provide each and every student with customized curriculum. I work to build a solid technical foundation while also fostering creative growth.
