Victoria F.

La Vergne, TN

About Victoria

I love teaching! How incredible it is to aid people in the joy of music, build their confidence, and help them sing with ease and comfort! I am a classical vocal performance graduate from Belmont University. I have sung all over the world, as a soloist with a missions organization The New America Singers. We sang in Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, South Korea, Russia and Germany, with our largest audience being over 6,000 people. I have performed several solo concerts in Germany, directed Children's Musicals, and have been teaching private voice at my home studio, the YMCA in
Brentwood, as well as Rock Springs Middle school. Teaching voice is something that I am passionate about. I had some vocal health issues when I was younger, but thankfully I had an incredible teacher who not only helped me fix them but also taught me how to help others. I do not teach children under the age of 12 because their voices are not developed enough, and so it can cause them more harm as they get older. Many of my vocal issues that I had to work though was because I started to young, and I do not want your kids to have to go through that. I have been teaching the past few years, and have enjoyed every minute of it. I am excited to be able to help students who wish to improve their vocal abilities. Whether it is for the pursuit of a singing career, correction of vocal issues, if you have always wanted to sing on key, or you just want to sound better, I can help you accomplish your goals.

*** Lesson Details ***
Healthy singing is key.
- Proper breath support is the first key to singing well.
-We do an assortment of vocal exercises picked for the individual voice. These exercises help correct various vocal issues, strengthen quality of tone, widen your vocal range, and help warm up the voice as to not hurt anything when singing a song.
-I also have a Zoom H4 voice recorder to make high quality recordings of your voice, so you can learn from hearing yourself as well as having the exercises recorded for listening at home.
-I also teach sight singing to those who would like to learn.
-I will help you learn new songs, teach musical techniques, as well as stage presence.

The lessons are for you, if you want to work on something specific that is what we will do. I always have a plan for want to work on but I am flexible. The more work you do at home, the more work we can accomplish in our lesson. Most of all you need to have fun singing!

*** Studio Equipment ***
-Piano
-Music Stand
-CD Player
-Zoom H4 voice recorder
-Sound Level Meter

I have SD cards available to purchase, as well as SD card readers. If you would like to buy it somewhere else the SD card must be a 2GB card, as my recorder does not take anything higher.

*** Specialties ***
I originally pursued opera, so I enjoy classical voice technique. It has taught me how to use one's own body to amplify the voice. I enjoy working with people with vocal issues, such as vibrato problems, tension etc. I also love the theatrical side that Broadway brings, as well as opera. There are so many elements that makes a singer good.

Excellent Teaching

I feel like Ms. Victoria is a great teacher. In just seven months she has transformed me into a completely different singer. My range is now greater than ever and my roles in musicals have increased significantly. Her skills have given me newfound courage and I would highly recommended her to anyone interested in vocal lessons.

Shane S.

Nashville, TN

About Shane

I began piano lessons at age 6. At age 9 my mom allowed me to take guitar lessons provided I continued with piano. By 12 it was just me and the six-string.

The first time I learned how to play guitar with one hand was from a hippie guitarist who sewed colored patches into his leather pants. One week’s lesson when I was 13 consisted of going into the teaching room, pressing play on the VCR and watching a video of Stevie Ray Vaughn live. That changed everything for me.

I founded various bands in my hometown and started teaching guitar lessons when I was 17. I taught all styles, ages, and
levels. After high school I received training in jazz guitar theory and performance at the Player’s School of Music in Clearwater, Florida and later studied guitar theory under a jazz guitar guru in Portland, OR.

After acquiring a business degree from Central Washington University and working a few years in global logistics I left the United States for missionary work and held several odd jobs including being a chauffeur, milking cows, and of course; teaching guitar lessons. While overseas I started a Guitar Club in the Maori village of Waharoa, NZ, performed for troops at Yokota U.S. Air Force Base in Fussa, Japan, and recorded music in Auckland, NZ for a YWAM compilation album.

Upon returning stateside I worked on a salmon fishing tender in the Bering Sea, and the skipper, a retired Nashville songwriter encouraged me to make the move to music city.

Since moving here I've recorded the Genrelicious EP, released several singles including 'Just Friends' and 'Blood on the Floor', (the latter for which I also released an official music video).

Currently I play for and write with several Nashville artists, play every second Saturday at Merridee's in Franklin, TN, and headline my 'Genrelicious Showcase' in various cities featuring artists of all styles and backgrounds.

*** Lesson Details ***
In the first lesson we will determine your current level, establish your desired goals, and then formulate a plan to get to where you want to go with guitar. There is one specific book that I use for almost all students which covers a broad spectrum of styles at all levels, and the rest of the material will vary depending on the goals we establish in the beginning, and your individual learning style.

I like to root a very solid foundation in basic music principles early on and then expand from there as this allows you to go as far as you desire with guitar music.

And while I don't employ the teaching method I do dig that old Suzuki philosophy, "Only practice on the days you eat."

*** Studio Equipment ***
Acoustic Guitars, Electric Guitars, Amps, Keyboard, Music Stands, Chairs, oh my!

Acoustic, Electric, Rhythm, Lead, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Country; CAGED Method, Modal Theory

Melanie A.

Nashville, TN

About Melanie

I have been giving voice lessons for the last 8 years. I have taught from elementary school students to adults, new/fresh beginners to intermediate. I am a great encourager and am eager to see you grow in your talents and abilities. I have been singing in church choirs and receiving private voice lessons since I was 6 yrs. old. With a BA in Music, I graduated from William Jessup University, emphasis in voice. From there I went on to teach at a Music Academy and then a music focused college known as "Instituto Canzion". I have received additional instruction from classes and private lessons at
Musician's Institute located in Hollywood, CA and continue to gain teaching techniques from their professors. One of my main goals as a teacher is to make sure you are constantly growing and being challenged. As a teacher I hope to provide specifically for each students need. I have experience with instructing for pop, rock, indie, country, musical theater, and contemporary christian genres. I have worked with choir pieces as well as solos and duets, and have spent some time in recording studios, Coaching vocalists as well as doing some recording of my own. My desire is that every student would feel comfortable sing/performing
in front of an audience while having fun, because that's what it's
about, after all, that feeling of accomplishment after you've worked so
hard. So let me help you to feel confident while performing and have a great time!

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is somewhat laid back. I always tell my students, "You will get out of these lessons only as much as you are willing to put in." I can be strict if that helps a student, but I try to work with each individual at a pace that works best for them. I do challenge my students to reach and push themselves to what I know they are capable of. One of the first things I will do in a lesson is to set a personal goal with the student. This helps to have something to work towards. In lessons I will focus on areas like correct breathing, posture, relaxing tension, vowels, pitch, pronunciation, performance, and others. These are some of the areas that should definitely show noticeable improvement after 3-6 months. Other things like vocal physiology and ear training will be implemented as well as some sight reading. In the end it's really all about what you want to learn. I don't claim to know it all, but I am a life long learner and am continuing to better myself through further education.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Keyboard, Mirror, Recorder, Music stand. The student needs to provide their own flash drive to download lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have a keyboard and a recorder, but I need to be informed as to whether I need these items or not. The student needs to provide his or her own flash drive to download lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I mainly teach Pop, Country-pop, pop-rock, Musical theater, Christian and contemporary genres.

wonderful

Erica has been a great voice teacher for my daughter. My daughter has only been taking lessons since July and she has come a long way & really enjoys Erica & her lessons. Erica encouraged her to sing a solo in the Christmas Recital recently & over time, my daughter, felt confident enough to perform and she performed wonderfully. Erica has also been very flexible at switching our lesson days b/c my daughter is also involved in sports and have had many scheduling conflicts.

David L.

Nashville, TN

About David

I am an experienced music teacher with over 20 years’ playing and performance experience. My specialties are in trumpet and electric bass, with additional experience teaching all brass instruments and beginning guitar. Many of my students are not only successful in their bands but in regional honor bands and Solo and Ensemble competitions as well. I am a member of the Middle Tennessee Band and Orchestra Association, and the National Association for Music Education.

I believe in tailoring each lesson to each student's individual abilities and learning methods. For students in school bands,
I try to provide lessons that augment and complement what they learn in band class, focusing on areas of performance that may not receive attention in a group setting. For all my students, regardless of level or instrument, I help them learn music that they want to learn, while making sure they get the fundamental training that they need. I encourage and assist my students in finding opportunities to perform in solo performances and with other groups. I also pride myself in creating an environment where the students are comfortable asking questions to help improve their playing.

Contact me for lessons today to enhance your playing.

David taught my daughter when she first decided to play the trombone in middle school band. It takes a special person to work with a moderately motivated, quiet 12 year old girl. He was patient, providing her with plenty of skills to achieve 1st chair without pushing too hard, or the wrong way. However, without his guidance, she would never have attempted to try out for mid-state. He urged her to play music she liked, but also made sure she was exposed to jazz, improv and other styles. He accommodated our ever changing schedule, and probably hid frustration well when she forgot her instrument or didn't practice. We couldn't have asked for a better teacher!
