About Steven
I love to learn music! So do my students.

After childhood lessons, and BA and MA degrees from Minnesota and Iowa, I worked for private conservatories in Los Angeles, while teaching and playing for church events and celebrations. In that real-world school, I learned the music that the world loves.

I use that knowledge to fire my students' imaginations. If Bach or Mozart motivates them, we set goals to learn the Toccata in D minor or the Turkish Rondo. These are realistic goals!
Maybe you would like to study Easter hymns for church, as one student did recently. Perhaps you would like to perform Beethoven's Tempest in front of sixty people at a nice recital hall.

*** Lesson Details ***
All my students can expect an experience focused on their musical goals, with lesson plans geared to twenty minut
es of daily practice. Set the bar as high as you want! My students all choose to have a lesson every week except for scheduled breaks, under the recurring lesson plan. This helps them to make quick progress.
My studio has a big grand, and a digital piano. The neighborhood is quiet.
Come with confidence, to a studio licensed in Albuquerque for twenty years. I have passed TakeLessons and Albuquerque Public Schools background checks.
After three months, a busy eight-year old beginner could have an easy rendition of "Ode To Joy" or "When The Saints Come Marching In" to perform for loved ones.
My students study technique, rhythm, fingering, expression and general musicianship. All this, while enjoying great musical selections.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio lessons are taught in a living room studio exclusively used for piano lessons including a Steinway piano. No pets. Parking in the right side of the driveway.

*** Specialties ***
Mostly classical, with occasional jazz, contemporary Christian, and popular. I mostly teach from notes, though occasionally from lead sheets or through improvisation. The Adventures, Keys for the Kingdom, and Step By Step methods are preferred until the student can play composers' original notes. Then, their recital works tend to come from such as Bach, Beethoven, Clementi, Debussy, and Chopin.

I welcome online students with a desire to learn and an ability to focus. Young students should have a parent or guardian near to direct their attention, if needed.

Mr. Steven is an excellent teacher, and really engages my son each week. He is new to piano, and has helped my son progress very quickly with reading notes, tempo, and so much more. Mr. Steven makes every lesson rewarding. I recommend him!

An excellent, intuitive teacher

Mr. Steve is an outstanding teacher whom I would recommend without reservation. He works at the pace of each of my children and they are eager to work for him too. My son bores quickly, but Steve challenges him with encouragement and speed. My daughter is slower to catch on and he accommodates her speed with equal talent. He is creative in his teaching methods and also in his approach to advising more practice or encouraging practice methods. I hesitate to write this review because I don't want to share the gem we have found in Steve. He is kind, patient, encouraging, excited about the music and the kid's efforts, witty, professional and accommodating. 5 stars.

About Carla
Music is my LIFE!

After more than 25 years of teaching at music camps, music stores, 3 colleges and my home, I completely understand that the lessons are all about YOU, the student: what you want to learn, taught to you in a way that works for your brain and personality.

And if you don't know exactly what you want to learn, that's OK. We can figure that out together as we go along learning the basics.

I help students learn to play songs by artists they like.

I also help students write songs, or put chords to their existing lyrics.

For those who are interested, I teach note-reading (not required) and theory (not required) and ear training (not required).

The lessons are always tailored towards your (the student's) goals.

I also teach classical and fingerstyle guitar for the occasional person who specifically wants
either of those styles.

My purpose as a teacher: help people have a fun experience, learning in an organized way, adapted to your learning style and goals, while learning to do exactly what you wanted to do when you decided you wanted to play the guitar.

In 1994, I was let go from my job at a music store because I was sick. Which sounds awful, but was the best thing to ever happen to me- it was then I got over my fears and became a full-time musician, teaching and writing and performing. I have never looked back! I may not be a household name, but I am living the dream.

Whether you want to sing to your kids or play for an audience of 50,000, or just play guitar for yourself, you first have to get started.

Wait no longer! The guitar is calling!

Carla is a fantastic teacher! She keeps the lesson lively and interesting, pushes you along but not too much.
In just the handful of lessons I have had so far my level has jumped further than expected.
Carla has been very helpful with the "tricky-bits" that have caused me issues. Helped to remedy them and move on.
Look no further for a great teacher, better yet I'll keep her to myself.

About Brandon
I am a songwriter, guitarist and recording artist. I graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a Bachelors in Music with emphasis in guitar and music industry studies.

I have experience teaching guitar lessons on an individual basis as well as being in a classroom setting teaching general music.

I conduct simple and clear lessons tailored to each students age and starting level of experience with the guitar combined with a stress free and fun teaching style to keep students engaged and truly interested in learning.

My experience in performing, recording, touring and curating music events in the music industry are all areas in which I would be happy to mentor students if they choose to go farther with their lessons. I currently perform in a touring indie band that has played acts such as Miami Horror, Capita
l Cities and Tijuana Panthers.

I like to write in the indie, pop, funk and dance style but I think an understanding of technique and theory is essential to becoming a well rounded musician. My goal is to give you the tools you need to become a great musician.

Willa says:
"A talented guitarist for multiple styles, and a very patient teacher!"

Ned says:
"Trevor clearly explains guitar techniques in line with students’ ability to implement."

I am a diverse and skilled lead and rhythm guitarist. I play Rock, Jazz, Blues, and Balkan music. I started my journey with Eric Clapton and George Harrison in 2004. I graduated with honors from the Contemporary Music Program at Santa Fe University of Art & Design in 2015.

I played lead guitar in a progressive rock power trio called Get Safe for three years. During my time at school, I was also exposed to Balkan and Middle Eastern music styles, which broadened my understanding of music and my technique. My most current project is one that fuses jazz guitar and electronic dance music, which I've titled SOZN.

My passion for music's functionality a
s well as its therapeutic and experimental nature is what has drawn me to a career in music. I look forward to meeting you and passing on what I know to improve your musical skills!
