About Joy
I am a graduate of UC San Diego (bachelor of arts, sociology) and UCLA (master of public policy). As a child of immigrant parents, I value diversity and love learning languages. I read, write and speak Spanish fluently, and have intermediate command of both Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese in reading, writing, and speech.
Photography has been one of my main areas of focus for over ten years. I am trained in both film and digital formats and specialize in demystifying the DSLR so that you gain a good understanding of manual settings and how to use each to improve your photos.
Caring, compassion, and understanding are essential for learning and I strive to do my best in these areas.

I began photographing family events at the age of 8 years old. I was always fascinated with how things work and the camera was no exception.
I learned to shoot with Film cameras. First with my Dad's Pentax and when I was employed I purchased my own. During my time in the Navy and Army I became good friends with a combat photographer who mentored me in photography. Long deployments were perfect to cultivate my skills and there was no shortage of people places and things to photograph.
So what makes me a good Instructor? My education background is Avionics and Electronics Engineering. I am a math and logic minded person which enables me to reverse engineer processes and break them down. I have experience teaching ESL to foreign exchange students which often requires me to understand the task from the perspective of the client so tha

I come from a Artistic family, Music, Art, Dance, Singing etc and being a musician myself I am not just a 1's and 0 person. Photography is a very logical subject not unlike music. There are rules to bent and offers structure yet has a creative release for those of us seeking that.
My clients find that I am patient and laid back and able to explain things in multiple ways until they get that ah ha moment. I am passionate about photography and I hope my enthusiasm is contagious.
As a Professional photographer I see so many bad photos from family and friends and others posting on social media and in forums. Someone took the time to show me and feed my passion so I want to do the same and help to create better photographers and hopefully better photographs.

About Jesse
I'm Jesse, a full-stack web development student at UNC Charlotte Coding Bootcamp. I love teaching others what I've learned and I have a particular passion for Python programming.
More than just teaching you the basics of web development and Python programming, my desire is to mentor you to grow individually as a developer and not just teach you theory in abstract. I want to come along side you and "hold your hand" as you grasp the fundamentals. I know what it's like to feel overwhelmed as a "n00b," and I won't judge you if you don't get concepts at first. I am here to help you get it and I will coach you to relax and enjoy learning.
Programming is frustrating, but learning to accept the struggle and enjoy the process will really make things easier!

About Armon
I am a 3rd year PhD Student studying Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at the University of Pennsylvania. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Lehigh University with a B.S. in Computer Engineering in 2015.
However, despite a career as a research scientist, my academic past would have suggested a much different path. In high school, I was deeply in love with history, literature, and philosophy. In fact, it was my original intention to become an English major when I went to Lehigh, but as fate would have it, the many twists and turns in my life would cause me to find new loves in mathematics, science, and engineering.

While the focus of my studies took a rather extreme turn, I never lost my interest in the humanities. As a result, I believe that this rather unique academic past, allows me as a teacher to connect with a broader range o
f students, many of whom may have completely different interests and passions than what I happen to be teaching them. Furthermore, having been exposed to how
many different types of people think about problems has taught me how to disentangle complicated topics and present material in a way that may best be understood for each particular student such that learning not only becomes painless, but fun.
It is my ultimate goal as a teacher, to not only help my students achieve greater success in the classroom and instill a greater level confidence in their abilities, but to dispel the common fear and mysticism of the STEM subjects. For them to carry on afterwards as, if not a new passionate protégées of these arts, but at least as an individual with a fundamental appreciation of their ever subtle elegance and beauty.
