I accept violinists of all levels, and have completed Suzuki teacher training through book 8. I also bring in other methods such as Shirley Givens Adventures in Violinland for younger students, and incorporate books from Paul Rolland's teaching methodology.

About Kira
I graduated from Mannes College of Music with a BS in violin performance and a minor in psychology. While at Mannes, I was a student of Sally Thomas (Julliard School), and other primary teachers include Yi-Wen Jiang (Shanghai String Quartet), Claudia Schaer, Amy Barlowe and Oscar Ravina. I have performed at every major concert hall in New York City, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Weill Recital Hall, and Symphony Space. My performance schedule has led me to perform in concert with pop superstar Sarah Mclachlan and to solo performances with the Rockland Summer Institute orchestra.

My past chamber music coaches include Ann Setzer, Peter Prosser, Chin Kim, Gena Raps, and members of both the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and NY Philharmonic. I have also participated in masterclasses with Cho-Liang Lin, Pamela Frank, and Ida Kavafian.
I am also a alumna of the Meadowmount School of Music.

Currently, I am a registered teacher with the Suzuki Association of America and have completed Suzuki teacher training for books 1 - 8 at NYC's School for Strings, where I trained with Ekaterina Gerson and Allen Lieb. I have also completed additional violin and viola pedagogy studies with Ann Setzer of the Julliard School. My students have been accepted to performing arts high schools such as Laguardia Highschool School for the Performing Arts and now perform with ensembles such as Chicago University's Chamber Orchestra.

In addition, I completed both Music Mind Games Units 1 & 2 teacher training with Michiko Yurko in 2012. I incorporate this fun way of learning how to read and understand music theory into all of my lessons.

I have been teaching privately for over 10 years, and look forward to continuing to enrich other peoples' lives through music for years to come.

*** Lesson Details ***
I generally try to tailor my teaching approach based on a student's individual goals with a strong emphasis on proper violin technique. I have the most experience teaching using the Suzuki method, but also utilize more traditional approaches in order to address the developmental level of my pupil. I expect my students to come in with a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and strong work ethic.

With students 7 years of age and younger, I strongly recommend that a parent take lessons for 6 weeks prior to their child beginning instruction. I also insist that parents sit in on their child's lessons and take notes. This enables parents to properly supervise their child's practice, which ultimately leads to speedier progress and a better grasp of the material being taught.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Separate dedicated violin studio in apartment with piano.

I do own three cats (Spork, Pancakes, and Brienne), so please let me know if this is a problem!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I ask that my students please speak to me prior to purchasing or renting an instrument.

Following the first violin lesson, I expect my student to provide their instrument (I can provide a list of resources and rental companies for instruments), a notebook, any music books assigned, a music stand, and a metronome.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical playing and prefer teaching using the Suzuki method. I am currently registered with the Suzuki Association of America. I am also flexible enough to assist a student seeking to branch out, and for those not interested in Suzuki, I am also able to teach via more traditional methods. Additionally, I have an extensive educational background in music theory, I am also able to take those students interested in taking beginning to intermediate viola lessons.

About Ran
Hi there! I am Ran. I have been teaching individual violin lessons to children and adults of all musical levels since 2001. I am currently available to teach lessons at your home also at my studio. I have helped students to prepare and to pass the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music graded music exams and assessments level 1-8 including music theory, aural test, and the instrumental auditions from all three Baroque, Classical and 20th Century contemporary periods. I have also helped middle school and high school students to prepare and to enter the Regional Advanced Orchestral Programs in New Jersey. I hold both of my Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Violin Performance from Manhattan School of Music in New York City. A trained Suzuki violin teacher, and a current member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas, I have
been serving as a part time Suzuki violin teacher in private and community music schools in New Jersey, as well as performing actively as an orchestral and chamber musician in NYC and NJ.

My goal of teaching is to improve the student's intellect, mental-physical collaboration, to develop the skills including aural ability, emotional connection to music, enjoy playing, and to develop strong self-discipline that the students can apply to other activities. I am passionate to keep this precious human art form alive, especially in these future generations!

I grew up in professional conservatories, and started playing the violin at age 4 instructed by my mother who is a full time professional violinist with the Shanghai Symphony. I was so lucky to have her as my first violin teacher that through her teaching, I understand how important it is to study with a patient, encouraging and dedicated teacher. Teaching is such a rewarding experience to me that I am able to use my skills and knowledge to help students developing their interest and potential talent as well as achieving their multiple learning purposes.

Ran was such a wonderful instructor and overall person. My son loved her and so did I. My 10 year old learned so much Ran, because she has so much knowledge and passion for the violin. I just recently moved out of the area, so I am not within driving distance anymore to Ran. However, I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting to learn the violin or sharpen an already existing skillset. I believe Ran has transferred her passion for the violin to my son and to myself as well. I wish I could give her 10 stars! She is awesome!!!!

I teach violin at the New School for Leadership and the Arts, mostly to novice players, and I have experience teaching violin to children of all ages.

My primary instrument is guitar, which I've played for about 25 years in many different bands, styles, and genres. I studied music and classical guitar at University of Central Florida, and during that time I also helped teach violin to a class of third graders. I'm not a pro violinist, but I have plenty of experience working with novice players, helping them develop proper technique, sight reading, ear training, and other skills needed to advance to the next level.

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

I have taught hundreds of students over the course of seven years.
Basically, I am a great player having graduated from one of the two most competitive studios in the world and really enjoy passing on my knowledge to fellow travelers on the quest for good violin playing.
I am well liked by current students because of my ability to explain in lucid, relatable ways -- using any method the student seems to latch on to more easily.

About John
About three months ago, I decided to slow down my touring for a while and joined takelessons to rebuild my teaching studio.

All in all I've taught for about seven years, and I went to school here in NYC at Mannes and Juilliard. And as a graduate of one of the two most elite violin studios in the world, I know exactly what fundamentals are necessary for you to enjoy playing the violin every time you pick it up; and in order to make this happen I preview for and review each session.

I am very good with children and understand that it is particularly important to win their trust quickly so they can begin to soak in all the material in a fun environment.
For older students, I am quick to understand the personal goals of the individual and figure out the most efficient method to achieve their dreams.

I don't have much to add after what you've already read. I love teaching and hope my enthusiasm will be contagious. You are free to record a video your lessons to help you practice more efficiently at home and to tell me whatever else you need to help you learn. Every teacher wants their students to practice as much as possible but I focus on how to help you learn quickly because many of you have very busy lives. Whatever time you have I'll help you make the most of it.

About Gregor
I perform regularly at Carnegie Hall with Orchestra of St. Luke's, have performed and recorded with David Bowie (Heathen), play lots of chamber music and contemporary music concerts and have toured extensively but always lived in NYC. While I studied with Jascha Heifetz protege Erick Friedman to get my BM and MM from Manhattan School of Music,, Charlie Castleman at The Quartet Program and Chris Lee, concertmaster of NJ Symphony, my teaching is based on what I learned as a performing musician in NYC. Working with great players here showed me what they all had in common versus what were just my teacher's idiosyncrasies. Using your body efficiently to avoid injury is at the core of what I teach. Playing well in your 20's is entirely different than having learned how to avoid injury and play well in your 50's. I teach anyone from beginners o
f all ages to young professionals preparing for auditions to older people who always wanted to do this and just need someone to spark their curiosity.

Gregor was terrific to work with! He has had so much experience and teaches in a very personal and dynamic manner. He can really address the root of many issues in playing and take personal differences in consideration. I was very happy he had so much experience using the Alexander Method and adapting it to violin playing. This is what you need to set yourself up for a lifetime of playing! While I studied primarily classical music, he also has lots of experience in many other genres as well.

I briefly studied with Gregor when I lived in the NYC Metro area. He is one of the best teachers I've had the privilege of studying with over the years. My lessons were tailored to my goals, and Gregor was committed to helping me learn as much as possible, while being incredibly down to earth. He is simply a world-class teacher, and someone I was very fortunate to meet. It was a pleasure and privilege taking lessons from him, and I cannot recommend him enough to aspiring violinists and violists.

I mentor my students with passion, love, and vigor and accept all students ranging from beginners to advanced students. My only requirement is that the student be hardworking in order to meet my standards. I have been a classical musician for 10 years and will ensure that my students are improving at a quick and steady pace and that they too will be successful.

About Eunice
Born and raised in America, Korean-American violinist Eunice Park has been a classical musician for 10 years. Although she is currently a high school student, she is also a senior at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-college division, and has studied under several renown professors, including (but are not limited to) Xiao Wang (Queen Elisabeth Competition finalist and Curtis graduate), and Elizabeth Chang (Juilliard pre-college professor). Park is willing to put extra time and effort to ensure her students their quick and steady improvement and nurture her students to the best of her abilities in order to help them succeed. Park has created many recordings and won several awards, including the New York International Competition of YW
CA, American Protege Competition, the NJIO Concerto Competition, the NJMTA Young Musician Competition, and a couple community service awards. Since age 12 she has performed in many different summer festivals, including the Saarburg Music Festival in Germany, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, and the Manhattan in the Mountains intensive summer camp, and made her official debut on stages including Merkin Hall and Carnegie Hall. Although Park is currently a student, she never fails to teach with vigor and a good heart. "If the student is a hardworker," she explains. "Then I will naturally be twice as hardworking. I'm that crazy teacher that will phone her student at 6am to make sure he or she is practicing." Park accepts beginner students through advanced students. I am a patient teacher, and passionate about teaching music. There are many aspects on learning how to play the violin. I focus on the sound a lot, so it will be a very short or almost to none screeching time when they play. To produce good sound, posture is number one thing. I like to build a student from a solid ground, so correct posture, right hand, left hand position, violin holding, and the whole body posture are all little pieces can make big differences in violin playing. By doing so, can make playing much easier, sounding beautiful, and make hard passages easier! And the correct posture will also help prevent the possibility from getting playing related injuries. I believe having inspiration is important too, listening to different music and great players can develop the ears, and also is a hugh inspiration to practice.
