About Alisa
I began violin playing jazz/folk music with my dad and performing at different venues with him. I was always attracted to the variety of scales and sounds eastern music had to offer. I love the sound of a gypsy violin, how it can create such a strong sorrowful sound or how it can dance and sing.

I found the gypsy inspired pieces composed by classical composers like Monti's Csaras. This was my connection into classical music. I found a teacher who played classical and Arabic violin and began studying intensely for technique. As I got deeper into the study of classical I realized how much I love classical music.

I now have been playing classically for 6 years and have been playing the violin 12 years I have studied with Hannah Khoury, Daniel Han of the Philadelphia Orchestra and am currently with Vladimir Dyo who is a full time facu
lty member at Temple University.

I began attending Temple Universities Boyer College of Music in 2011. I have performed in Kimmel Center and Alice Tully Hall with our orchestra since than. I continue to play various performances with my background in improvisation but right now I focus full-time on being a student.

*** Lesson Details ***
I love to teach. I have taught students from ages 8-42 and am open to teach anyone above 7 and above. We will start with the Suzuki method to get the basics of violin and will progress to play pieces of music varying to your tastes and level. If you want to play Irish fiddle, we can have you playing jigs and reels in just a few months. If your interested in jazz we can have you playing standards or if you want to a play classical we can work towards you being able to sight read and perform pieces within 6 months.

Of course if you already play we can pick up where you left off. I strongly believe no matter what interest you have in violin, it is important to study classically to get the proper technique. All styles I teach will be supplemented with classical etudes and exercises.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect them to own a violin and be willing to purchase necessary equipment. (music, metronome, tuner, shoulder rest, etc... varies on student)

*** Specialties ***

Such a wonderful and challenging instrument. I still take a few lessons with a master's degree performance artist so I keep on top. There are different size violins for different sizes of people. Hope you give it a try

About Mary
Music degree from Lawrence University and Conservatory in Appleton, WI. Graduate work in conducting, piano, and vocal pedagogy at Westminster Choir College in Princeton. Also certified in Kindermusik for ages newborn to 7.

My studio, since 1993 is located in the back of my house and is in a family friendly location.

As my education originally was music education, elementary and secondary, I have gone on to be certified in teaching adults, both beginning and returning. There is so much piano and vocal educational material geared to the pre-school, the elementary, Jr-Sr high and Adult beginner and I promise we will have fun while learning.....

Anyone can learn an instrument and anyone can learn many different styles. Lessons will be geared toward your interests and goals, which we can work on at your lesson also.

The grea
test virtues of a music teacher are passion, patience, understanding, and communicating. You will experience this in the studio. Give yourself a treat of two months of lessons and I promise you will be playing and/or singing better than you expected.

Member of MTNA (Music Teachers National Association), NFMC (National Federation of Music Clubs),
NJFMC (NJ Fed. of Music Clubs). MENC (Music Ed National Conference),

*** Lesson Details ***
I am generally easy going and laid-back and will work with you to obtain specific goals such as a piece you would really like to learn. I can be strict if assignments are not followed or if there is no progression; we need to analyze why that is. I use many teaching methods as there are many different learning styles. The series I am currently using are Faber, Alfred, and Celebrate Piano! for pianists. Many singers are in Broadway, Disney, and/or English Reliquary and Italian Arias. There are so many wonderful choices! I can guarantee after three months you will be playing some music you like, and you will be reading music, and able to perform if you wish (starting small). With singing you will have basic knowledge of proper posture, breathing, and increased range. I also so enjoy people and communicating so you will feel comfortable taking lessons, and I believe that is one major factor of success in learning an instrument: the student-teacher relationship And second for children, especially the young, is the parent-teacher relationship .

*** Studio Equipment ***
Studio: Yamaha baby grand piano, Kawaii studio upright and keyboard, Yamaha keyboard, recording abilities, computer software, couch and two chairs, parents can sit in on lesson. Also have computer programs for note learning, composition, as well as giving you apps to download.

*** Specialties ***
Different methods for different students. Piano: mostly Faber and Alfred series. "Prodigy": Aaron/Thompson series. I've also had graduate study in teaching the Adult Beginner! As I was a church music director 1994 till last September, I am very familiar with traditional and contemporary sacred music, learning and performing. If you also wish to combine singing and accompanying yourself on piano or guitar lessons can be tailored.

I began playing the violin at the age of 5 and have participated in the Strings International Music Festival as well as the Eastern U.S. Music Camp. Through high school I was a member of the Delaware County Youth Orchestra and took part in district and regional festivals. At Temple University I studied with Helen Kwalwasser and played in the Temple Symphony Orchestra. I have also recorded non-classically on albums with music groups such as Port Arthur, Chet Williams, and Benjamin Poole.

I originally began my studies at Boyer in the Music Education department, and through my time there I have a lot of experience teaching music, especially to kids. I have taught high school marching bands for the past three years and am currently Hornline Director of Ridley High School's marching band. I work with students to improve both their technique and musicality. The technique that I teach emphasizes ease of movement, which helps violinists both avoid injury and control their playing. We work on this technique through exercises like scales and through the pieces of music that students work on. I give students pieces of music that target both their interest and level, (challenging but not too challenging) in order to inspire confidence in and excitement about their playing.

About Andrea
Hello, my name is Andrea. I am a student at Yale Law School and I have been playing violin for close to 20 years. Both my parents were music teachers and my dad is a professor at Westminster Choir College, so I grew up listening to the great classical composers like Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, and Debussy. I have experience playing violin in ensembles including New Jersey All State Orchestra and Interlochen World Youth Symphony Orchestra. I taught violin prior to law school and have continued to teach here in New Haven. Teaching is rewarding for me because I enjoy helping students grow as musicians and because I consider sharing music with others to be very valuable. I look forward to sharing music with you!

I like to tailor my lessons to the needs of each student. I can teach all styles from, classical, to jazz to fiddle and contemporary or rock. Whatever the style, I strive to focus on good musicianship, theory and technique developing right hand dexterity and the bow arm along with the left hand and vibrato. I use several different methods depending on the age and ability of the student.

About Melissa
I began playing violin at age 10 after years of singing in children's choirs. I continued my musical journey at Sam Houston State University where I earned a Bachelors degree in Music and my Texas All Level Music teaching certification. I was a middle school orchestra director for 17 years. During that time I went to many workshops around the country to learn about teaching string instruments. I also fell in love with the viola and even taught my own daughter how to play. After years in classroom, I chose to focus my teaching on studio work and private lessons. I love teaching all levels but pride myself on starting beginners out with a great foundation.

I am currently a student at Bryn Mawr College. I teach violin and viola lessons. I have played the violin and viola for 12 years and over the course of my 4 years of teaching, I have taught over 15 students on both violin and viola. I usually work with children or teenagers and I can teach someone who has never played an instrument before as well as intermediate players. I use a variety of books that teach theory, rhythm and playing songs so the student gains confidence in preparing and performing "performance ready" pieces.
At college, I am principal viola of the Bryn Mawr-Haverford Orchestra and I also am part of a chamber music group.
