I have been an actor for more the 40 years having worked Off-Broadway and Regionally.

I've taught acting for 25 years privately as well as at Brooklyn College, St Frances College, Marymount Manhattan College, and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.

"Nicholas is patient, insightful, friendly, and gets
results. After working with Nicholas, I felt great
about my auditions, got two callbacks, and landed
a touring job.
I would recommend him to any actor."

I am the Producing Artistic Director of the Hudson Warehouse and have been since its inception in 2004. Known as "The Other Shakespeare in the Park," we produce free classical theater in Riverside Park during the summer months and we have an
indoor season during the winter months as well.

"Mr. M has been my director, coach and
mentor in productions and the classroom. His patience,
insight and his passion excites students, and makes
them feel safe and supported enough to take risks."

*Joseph H.

I also work with Doctors, CEOs, Post-Doctorates, and Engineers to help improve their diction, communication skills, and help organize their presentations, to have the greatest impact in the corporate world.

"I met with the communications person yesterday and she told me that my delivery was incredible … and that’s a tribute to you. Your insights and tips on public speaking will remain with me long after Columbia."

*Cynthia K.

*** Teaching Methods ***
I foster a safe, relaxed and engaging environment to explore truthful human behavior on stage.

The objective is 'the truth' to which end there is no one technique. Actors are encouraged to find their own tools and to draw from elements of different practices to discover a technique that works best for them as individuals.

I studied the methods of Constantin Stanislavski for acting with Sergei Pomerov of the Moscow Circus Theater. I am classically trained as well.

I work primarily as a guide to help navigate the way and to interpret ‘the signs.' I teach the lesson in the moment and address the challenges of both the beginner and the experienced actor.

***Classical Work***
My basic approach to classical work focuses primarily on the connection of the breath with the feeling on the word.

This is the foundation on which you can then build. From the ‘words’ to the ‘thoughts’ to entire ‘passages’ of text, as you work and explore, the richness of the playwright’s words comes to life. Your own unique emotional life is allowed to come through the text and you are able to fully embody the role.

*** Teaching Levels and Focuses ***
*Beginning Actors
-Work With Classical Text.
-Vocal Work.
-"Moment to Moment" Work.
-"Sense Memory" Work.

*Experienced Actors
-In depth Classical Text Analysis.
-Connecting to the Text.
-Audition Technique
-Monologue Coaching

***Professionals in the Corporate World***
-A basic understanding of how to present yourself as a speaker.
-Address the root cause of your concerns in communicating.
-Build a technique to craft a presentation to get the best response from a client or colleague.

I met with Nicholas before an audition. He is a wonderful teacher. He helped me already a great deal during that short hour, on how to approach the material, break it down in a way that will help my performance reach its full potential. I was able to deliver a truthful performance. I am looking forward to more sessions. Many thanks.

Leona has been my life coach for several sessions now and I could not more highly recommend her. Depending on what information she is given beforehand, she will research the situation of the particular student (what career field they are considering for example) and bring what she has learned to the session. She then will listen intently to the student to find out what they want and what is most important to them. After that she will make excellent recommendations designed to maximize the chance that the student will succeed. After having several sessions with her, I can confidently say that every piece of advice she gives leads to a positive outcome if followed. For these reasons, I wholeheartedly recommend her.

As highly as Dave's previous reviews spoke of him, he still managed to exceed any expectations I had. Dave managed to hold the attention of my 5 year old for the entire lesson, and left my son excited about learning and confident that he can do it! I feel very fortunate to have found such a great teacher for my child.

About Saad H.

About Saad
Saad is a composer of orchestral, chamber, vocal, and electroacoustic music who achieves a “remarkable fusion of idioms” (New York Times), most notably in his work exploring the disparate qualities inherent in Western art music and Middle Eastern musical tradition. His music delves into that relationship by transferring the performance techniques of traditional Arab instruments to Western symphonic instruments, while extending their capabilities through the advancement of technology.

The 2017–18 season featured the premiere of Saad's first major string quartet, commissioned by the Lydian String Quartet, the premiere of Risala, co-commissioned by the Columbus and Princeton Symphony Orchestras, the premiere of Hawa, written for the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, performances of Takht by the Minnesota Orchestra and the Hangzhou Philharm
onic Orchestra, and a performance of Kaman Fantasy by Symphony in C, among others.

Recent distinctions include the Charles Ives Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Barlow Endowment General Commission, the S&R Foundation Washington Award Grand Prize, the Jerome Fund for New Music grant from the American Composers Forum, the Palmer Dixon Award from the Juilliard School, the Aaron Copland Residency Award, and multiple awards from ASCAP, BMI, and the Vancouver Chamber Choir. His orchestral works have been performed by the American Composers Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic, Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, Symphony in C, and the symphony orchestras of Albany, Columbus, Milwaukee, New Jersey, Princeton, and Sioux City. His music has been broadcast on stations across the Unites States, including WWFM, MPR, WPRB, and KWIT/KOJI, among others.

Born in Georgia and raised in California, Saad holds degrees in composition from the Juilliard School and the University of Southern California, where his principal teachers included John Corigliano, Mari Kimura, Bruce Broughton, Frank Ticheli, Stephen Hartke, and Donald Crockett. His music is published exclusively by Dib Press.

I started with Saad at a music camp upstate I was attending and of which he was composition faculty. Having taken plenty of music theory in the past but no formal composition, I didn’t know what to expect. First off, Saad’s manner couldn’t have been more calming or inviting from the very beginning, and that really built a great rapport between us and allowed me to do my best work. Secondly, based on my accounts of my past training, it took little time for Saad to identify what were my strengths and what we needed to study in order to ensure my best compositional outputs. We studied invertible counterpoint, a complex subject fundamental to nearly all forms of advanced classical counterpoint. Saad made the subject really approachable through intricate but understandable explanations of different concepts and provided really illustrative examples of each concept. Even a year after those several weeks of study, in which I have hardly written nearly the number of contrapuntal exercises as I did in the weeks during and after Saad’s tutelage, I still find canon and fugue writing to be doable and even fun, testament to how I was able to hold on to Saad’s teachings even long after working with him. I couldn’t recommend Saad’s abilities and qualities higher to anyone wishing to take composition lessons, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that he is an accomplished, experienced, fascinating, and highly-sought-after composer in his own right. Even after working with dozens of different teachers in different musical disciplines, I have found my studies with Saad to be among the absolute most rewarding.

Arindam has been teaching my son Science and Math since he was 10 years old. Now 16 years old, my son considers Arindam his mentor in addition to a friend. He is an accomplished Bowdoin College graduate, middle school STEM teacher, and has been tutoring students in science and math since in high school. Despite all of his accomplishments, he teaches with humility and kindness.

While he sets a high quality standard, my husband and I have seen how he works with my son's preferred learning style so that he can achieve his best. He is very patient. Most importantly, my son not only vastly improved his grades, but also his confidence.

Arindam is a very punctual, polite, and professional young man. He genuinely regards every person without condescension and wants you to work toward being your best. Above all he’s a real person that has greatly impressed us. We highly recommend him as a tutor!

I am currently completing my undergraduate degree in bassoon performance at New York University, with a minor in business studies. I am a member of the NYU orchestra, my chamber group Air Nouvea, and the New York Youth Symphony. Additionally I have played in small musical and opera productions in New York City; worked as a counselor at Luzerne Music Center in Lake Luzerne, New York; and interned at the Summertrios Music Festival in Lancaster, PA.

My beginning to advanced level students would learn how to advance their technique using practice techniques to increase productivity and efficiency through the study of scales, arpeggios, etudes, and solo repertoire. I would also emphasize posture and breathing as well as teach reed making and adjusting.

In addition to bassoon, I teach math, science, history, French, English/writing, and
ACT/SAT prep. In high school, I was a member of the French Honor Society, competed in Washington D.C for We the People, and was a national merit semifinalist.

About Michi
Despite all the knowledge they may have and all the "how-to" information at their fingertips, many people live their lives as if they were powerless and completely at the mercy of external circumstances. It is true that there are many things that we cannot change. However, even if our circumstances remained the same and the only thing we were able to change was our minds, it could open up a whole new world of opportunity. That is the core reason I decided to become a coach. My name is Michi and my mission is to help individuals become aware and make use of the one, incredibly powerful tool everyone has at their disposal: their own mind.

I earned a B.A. in Philosophy, an M.A. in Psychology, and am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. I also have a background in music. My approach to coaching is heavily influenced
by all of these disciplines, but what makes it unique is that it looks at self-development through the lens of creativity. More specifically, I view the process of pursuing your goals and navigating life's challenges primarily as a creative one. To me, the creative process is a cycle of goal-driven work, creative breakthroughs, and creation (bringing your vision into reality). In music, this might mean noodling around on the piano until you come up with something you like and turn it into a song. In life, this might mean thinking about what you want and what you can do to achieve your goal, and then taking the necessary action steps to succeed. Regardless of the scenario, I view the creative process almost as a natural law: If you put in the work, you will have breakthroughs and you will bring your vision into reality; it is simply a matter of time, discipline, and perseverance. Thus, much of my work with clients revolves around fostering their trust in the creative process.

Practically speaking, this means that, within the context of assisting them with their individual needs, I intend to help all clients:
(1) Shift from an "I can't" mentality to a "how can I?" mentality.
(2) Get to a place where achieving their goals becomes a matter of "when," not "if."

He was honest and direct, and if I ever lost motivation he reinvigorated my drive.
