Second-Prize winner of the 2017 New York International Artists Association Piano Competition, Hong Kong native Brian Lam was hailed by Sergei Babayan as “a very fine young pianist whose talents cannot be taught by others”. He won the First Prize at the 2014 Brooklyn College Concerto Competition, which led to a performance of Chopin’s e minor concerto with the school’s symphony under the baton of George Rothman, music director of the Riverside Symphony in New York. Two years later, in 2016, he won the First Prize at the American Proteges International Concerto Competition. Other achievements include a Gold Medal at the Young Classical Virtuoso International Piano Competition. Brian was also a finalist at the First VIVO-S International Music Competition in 2017.
Brian has appeared in greatly-acclaimed music festivals such as
the International Keyboard Institute and Festival in 2011 (full scholarship) & the Hudson PianoFest at Nyack College of Music in 2015. He has also played at Steinway Halls in London & New York, Weill Recital and Zankel Halls at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall at the Kaufmann Music Center and Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.
Brian holds B.M. and M.M. degrees in Piano Performance (summa cum laude) from Brooklyn College. His principal mentors are Adam Kent and William Wolfram.
The reason I came to Mr. Brian: I wasn't making any progress under my previous teacher at a local music school. I'd say I absolutely have made the right decision to study with him! At first, my parents thought Mr. Brian's piano lessons are a bit expensive, but they let me try out the first few lessons. Worth the price! I have stayed with him for almost 4 years. He is so passionate with piano and he always tries to push me to my fullest potential, even when certain pieces seem impossible for me to tackle. We are working on a 45 min college audition program; I have never imagined I could make it this far (I hated piano when I was a kid).

Mr. Brian has prepped me well for performances. I have learned a lot from him. He is very passionate about music and he really taught me how to express myself through piano playing. I am a very shy person and have stage fright. My parents think I have advanced a lot under Brian's tutelage. I highly recommend him. A great friend, mentor and an amazing pianist!

He had been my piano teacher and mentor for 5+years. Equipped with marvelous knowledge and meticulousness on music and piano performance, he is capable and willing to uphold his professionalism. He is not going to move on until you have mastered certain fundamental musical ideations or techniques. Mr. Brian is not the type of teacher who only talks in theory or with instructions, but he can actually perform what he demands from students. Hence, he is doubtlessly a marvelous piano performer, as well as instructor, where I am certain students can learn a lot from his lessons.

Classical piano is very beautiful. Your fist homework assignment is to listen to it regularly to begin to understand it. Piano is a very logical instrument. I will break everything down for you in a simple way for you to understand. We will learn different styles and genres to make things interesting. We will learn how to write a song, play along to a track and learn to play by ear and by reading music. I am excited to get to know you and help you grow in your talent!
Leah, a teacher, singer/songwriter, musician, entertainer and Berklee College of Music graduate.
She loves teaching and loves her students. Her main joy in teaching is watching her students grasp a new understanding and appreciation for their desired art and growing in their skills and talent. She loves seeing her students overcome obstacles. In her lessons, Leah sets the tone for care and a safe space to truly grow fearlessly. It is important to grow in confidence in your craft. In lessons, she covers setting a foundation, different genres, confidence, warm-up exercises, vocal techniques, ear training, music theory, harmony, performance techniques, audition preparation, range, improvisation, agility, freedom and more. She focusses on a few things at a time and has her students grow into other areas to work.
Musically, she provides
sounds and smooth tones of Jazz and Soul. Her latest EP entitled SonKissed is Jazz influenced music with Neo-Soul vibes and a positive message about love and life. She has been singing around Boston and New York and writing and recording new music. She has great things in store for her in the near future and much music and passion to share with the world.
Originating from Henderson, North Carolina, she grew up singing in school, church and choirs including the Raleigh Girls Choir of Raleigh, NC. Taking singing and piano lessons grew her love for music. She always had a fondness of jazz music starting at a young age, as her father would play jazz music. Studying music has led her to perform in recitals, concerts and festivals such as the Mozart Music Festival with The Capital City Girl’s Choir in Vienna, Austria, to study and perform abroad in Valencia, Spain, to graduate from Berklee College of Music and to continue writing, performing and growing as an artist. Leah also enjoys being involved in and performing in community events as she gives back. It is very important to her to help others as many have helped her.
She gets much of her inspiration from influences such as Jesus Christ, her parents, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Dianne Reeves, Lisa Fischer, Sammy Davis Jr., Sade, Anita O’day, India Arie, Erykah Badu, Adele, Diana Ross, Alicia Keys, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Mary Mary, Robin Thicke, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Esperanza Spalding, Miles Davis, Al Jarreau, Nancy Wilson, Ledisi, Sounds of Blackness, Take 6, Gretchen Parlato, and Quincy Jones just to name a few.
Leah was so knowledgeable and personable! After my first lesson, I’d say that she did a great job of explaining concepts that I typically struggle with, in simple ways. Her passion for teaching and her skill at singing both show! I’m so happy I found her!!

After I graduated from Manhattan School of Music, I was recruited by University in Seoul, Korea and taught students as an assistant professor. I have been teaching all level of piano for many years. I have helped students prepare in audition, recital, and competitions.
I always enjoy helping students reach their musical potential and aspirations while having a wonderful time!
Even though I am a novice, she taught me from reading notes to how to appreciate music by explaining very well. But I had to do what I had to do, HW and practice!!!
I will strongly recommend her to anyone.

Honestly, Gina was a strict teacher and great teacher at the same time. I had to practice a lot, but it was really rewarding experience. She is very patient and guided me to understand how profound classical piano is. My playing technique improved significantly.
I would strongly recommend Gina to anyone who wants to improve!
I teach all styles to all levels and ages I have been doing this for 40 years. I have an excellent track record of students as far as the number of years they study with me. Many of my young students have pursued music in their adult lives.
I am a highly experienced teacher of all abilities and ages. In fact, I have been an individual and group class teacher since 1980. Longevity is a big part of my practice, as people choose to study with me for decades. Many youngsters have gone on to be musicians in their adult lives. My lessons are tailored for each and every student. I am quick and creative, yet patient and loving. Ask one of my current clients for a recommendation!
In my teaching philosophy, I always teach students to understand the music better throughout the historical concepts. To let them enhance their understanding of the connection between music and life.
I also stress that to be a good musician or artist, you have to learn how to be a good human being first. Because, people’s personality or character could reflect in their music as always.
1. To train the basic fundamental techniques 2. To learn the different style of the music throughout Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern music. 3. To train the performance mode 4. To learn how to "practice"

My 4.5 year old daughter had her first piano lesson with Jingci. I had learned how to play piano when I was a kid, so I could tell Jingci knows how to teach the basic foundation very well. She's firm yet patient and got my daughter to follow her instructions even though her attention span isn't that great at her age.

Ms. Liu is so kind and patient. Great to know her and study with her.
Every student is different which is why I love to build a custom curriculum for each musician in my studio! Not only will we get you playing your favorite songs or repertoire in any genre, but we can also build strong skills in musicianship in any areas that appeal to you including ear training, solfege, music theory, sight reading, accompaniment skills, composition/songwriting, arranging and orchestration, and foundations of conducting.
I specialize in working with students age 12 through adulthood; beginners through college preparatory and advanced students welcome!
I'm a Brooklyn-based composer, conductor, arts administrator and general wearer of many hats, but I will always consider myself a teacher first! My approach to education is student-centric, goal-oriented, and practical. Every student regardless of their background or identity deserves equitable access to a quality music education that reflects their interests and aspirations.
I provide lessons and tutoring in a wide variety of music including piano, ear training, music theory, sight singing, composition/songwriting, arranging and orchestrating, diction, foundations of conducting, and love to mix and match these with each student, providing a practical working knowledge of these skills across any desired genre.
My current engagements include active work as a composer, conductor, and clinician with both professional musicians and in s
chools, as well as singing in multiple choral groups throughout New York City. I also am a staff member at the League of American Orchestras, supporting our work in the areas of knowledge resources, learning, and leadership. Outside of my regular schedule, I work as a consultant to several socially-oriented music groups including the Refugee Orchestra Project and Voices 21c, both located in Boston, MA.
I hold a Master of Music degree in Music Composition with a minor in Choral Conducting from the New England Conservatory as well as a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
I've had Derek as a conductor for a small string ensemble for about 5 years and he's truly the best anyone can ask for! He's great with young students and is amazing at motivating and explaining exactly what he wants out of musicians. His love and knowledge for music is extremely evident and that in turn encourages his students to strive to greater heights in musicianship.

"I have the highest praise for Neil. I am an adult, and I studied for nine years as a child and started studying again about ten years ago and have studie
d with several teachers during that time. I work on some difficult pieces, and Neil can always explain to me how to play the passages I am having trouble with and make it seem easy. Also, he can demonstrate for me how something should be played because he is such an excellent pianist. I am so happy I found Neil, and highly recommend him."
"Having opportunity to work with Mr. Gryaznov, who is a top class performer, is such a privilege. His tremendous experience, both as concert pianist and pe

Having recording sessions in Gryaznoff studio was for me, equally enjoyable process. Relaxed and warm atmosphere, professional equipment, together with the brilliant Hamburg D Steinway makes this studio one of the best of its kind in the heart of New York."

"I received classical piano lessons from Dr. Backus for almost two years before college. In those two years, I grew so much in my playing and in my love fo
r music. Dr. Backus has a deep passion for music and her students. In my lessons, Dr. Backus incorporated extensive knowledge about music history, theory and technique. Our goal was to build knowledge and technique so that I could freely create and make a beautiful sound with each piece. After taking lessons from her, I LOVE the piano. Dr. Backus taught me how to express music from my heart, and it was a privilege to learn from her and know her. I would highly recommend her for piano lessons!"
