I have played guitar and taught for over ten years. I have many students in NYC and hold an annual concert in the middle of Manhattan. Come refine your craft on guitar with me and perform!

About Noel
Hello everyone and welcome!

My name is Noel B., and I am a musician living and working in New York City.

When teaching a new student I employ many different methods. To me, music is about playing with people. Its important to be able to play by yourself but there are things you just can't learn unless you play with people. I liken it to taking soccer lessons but never playing on a team. Also, its important to perform. All of my students are invited to perform at a venue with a grand piano that professional musicians in the city play. This really helps the students and I set goals, and achieve them. I also use some method books, theory and other things, but just making it about playing makes the lessons much much more fun and inspiring for the students.

I currently teach at two music schools apart from my Private studio. O
ne of which is in Long Island. At this school I teach electronic music production w/ Ableton as a digital audio workstation. I also teach DJ/Turntablism along side DJ 4our 5ive (he has worked with Notorious BIG, Jay z, and is the current tour DJ for Lil Wayne). We have also started working together on performing at the venue near the school.

I hope to inspire others to pursue a musical life. No matter how serious and long, or short and light.

One of my ultimate goals in teaching is to help my students develop the skills and knowledge to not only be able to play well, but to also be able to teach themselves (and hopefully others in the future). Thank you for your time! Have a great day!

Great lesson. Worked out a plan to accomplish my goals. Noel is amazing and multi-instrumentalist which helped to combine skills and a jam session into the lesson.

Simply put, Noel is a terrific teacher! I had the itch to pick up the guitar at 39 years old, and wanted to work with someone who had a laid back approach while still having the chops and the knowledge to offer some challenges. I was not disappointed!

Noel has an extremely diverse background in much that goes well beyond the guitar - He's an awesome drummer as well. This made the lessons even more interesting since he could offer perspective from the drummer's point of view, stressing how important rhythm is to becoming a solid guitarist.

On top of everything else, one of the things I like the most about taking lessons with Noel is that sitting down with him is like sitting in on a jam session - a pretty cool feeling for someone who's somewhat new to music, but has always wanted to learn.

Great Teacher

My teacher is amazing. A master professional in his musical field. He teaches like he's done it for decades, even though so young. I would dare to say he can teach with his eyes close. I love all his teaching techniques, from theory to scale, to practicing the Hanon Studies, to ear training and on. I like how he plays along with me while teaching me a new musical score. He completely dedicated to teaching his student and making sure his pupil is satisfied with his performance. He'll even help you with preparing you for an recital or musical event. He knows how. I highly recommend for teaching any pupil from age 3 to 92. He'll ask me what I want to do next, and then we look for scores that I can learn according to my level.. He's attention to your needs as a student and works around it. I always look forward to going to my next lesson and see how I improved and what's new score he's prepare for me to learn.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid back teacher with many years of experience, which gives me the confidence to make the lessons fun and educational. Even though I am not very strict, I do have some expectations of my students: they will have to practice in order to be ready for the next lesson and in order to improve and show progress. After 3 or 6 months, my students will be able to play songs with various chords already, be able to read simple music and start learning how to improvise.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room: Amps, guitars, full keyboard

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would provide the book for the student on the first lesson, however after that the student would have to purchase the book. I will have my own instrument, but the student must have their own instrument in order to be ready for the lesson. I do have a number of guitars and if its a guitar student - I would be able to let the student use one of my guitars on the first lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I teach many various styles and incorporate the reading and music literacy in all of the styles. I specialize in teaching Classical and Rock genres of music. However I have taught: Metal, Bossa Nova, Pop, Punk, Flamenco, Progressive. Teaching classical genre - I incorporate a lot of various techniques that are very broad in spectrum to help the student learn to perform the music, read, improvise and compose. Teaching Rock genre - I teach my students to read music as well and concentrate on improvising and soloing techniques as well.

Loving my teacher

I have studied with Alex for over 5 years, time in which I feel I have accomplished so much on the guitar. Alex is awesome! He has real passion for the music and the instrument he teaches, he is extremely patient, has great insights in explaining the music or the techniques and shows a great resourcefulness in approaching various methods to each musical style he teaches.

Learning to Play

Alex is a great teacher. He is extremely patient and very good at taking his time to explain the things you do not understand. It's easy for me to express my own concerns as well as ask him questions. I also think his teaching techniques are great. He uses songs of your choosing as well as knows plenty of songs to advance your techniques with the guitar in realistic stages. He is good with constructive criticism. I like his honesty and directness, but he never makes you feel like you can't do it. Alex can spot things wrong with your technique quickly and help correct them. He also promotes a positive environment for those not yet confident in their playing.

I am very happy with Alex as my guitar teacher and feel that I can learn so much from him and I would definitely recommend him to another guitar player.

I have played guitar since age 10! I can help with basics, rhythm and leading playing in the styles of Rock, Pop, Folk, Blues, Jazz, Funk. If you have never played guitar before you will be playing your favorite songs within just a few lessons. If you have some things together I can help you take your playing to the next level with a deeper understand of the instrument.

About Christopher
In my many years of teaching and being taught I have realized that the best teachers are those who really focus on the needs of the student and help them realize their passion for playing music. This usually involves a lesson plan which combines both technical aspects and working on songs, so that the student is both working and having fun at the same time!

My experience is varied: I have a Bachelor's of Music from New York University, have taught masterclasses at the Costa Rica International Jazz Festival and an event sponsored by the the Thelonious Monk Institute's International Jazz day, as well as taught at music camps (all ages) and at an orphanage in Ghana.

I can travel to Brooklyn and Manhattan to give lessons, I can teach kids as well as adults.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide music, music stand, amp, etc at my
studio. I expect a student to have their own instrument, although I can supply one of my instruments for lessons at my studio.

*** Specialties ***
I can teach from beginner to very advanced on guitar, bass guitar and upright bass in the styles of Rock, Jazz, Blues, Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop etc. I also have experience in other subjects such as Logic Pro, Composition, Music Theory, Djembe. My focus is usually on performance for guitar/bass and composition/production for the other fields.

I offer lessons for students of any experience level in any area of interest. I come from a rock and metal background, but have explored many other genres in varying degrees of depth. We can work on learning songs, learning styles, honing technique, reading, composing, improvising, and just learning the guitar inside and out as the unique and versatile musical tool that it is.

About Cory
Hello and welcome all! My name is Cory Jacobs, I'm a Brooklyn born guitarist, educator, and composer, and I'm thrilled that you are reading this, because that means you're interested in pursuing music. I have been teaching and performing for around ten years, and plan on teaching for the rest of my life. Since completing my Master's degree in guitar performance, I've decided that I'm going to use this instrument as a tool for communication, education, and entertainment, in every way that I can. I love sharing music with anyone and everyone, and being the guiding, positive force to help people pursue their goals and learn music, to whatever capacity they intend to.

There is no previous experience in music or guitar necessary to begin lessons. Most of my students began with only a guitar and a bit of enthusiasm, and that's all anyone ne
eds. We'll be doing a lot of learning, playing, listening, and hopefully a bit of laughing, if you enjoy awkward and sometimes bizarre humor.

*** Home Studio Equipment ***
Home Studio: guitar amp, bass amp, cables

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will come with my guitar, a metronome, and a cable if my student is studying electric guitar. My student should have a guitar, paper, a pencil, a metronome, and an amplifier (for electric guitarists & bassists.)

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach musical fundamentals and basic technique to all of beginner students, as well as discuss practice methodology, listening practice, and musical style. We will be delving into rudiments quite a bit, but using riffs, melodies, and applicable chord progressions to learn. Learning to read musical notation is not necessary for many musical goals, but we can pursue that route if desired, and it is highly encouraged for a comprehensive musical understanding.

For intermediate students will likely want or need to work on specific things, ie technique, learning specific songs, music theory, learning the ins and outs of specific genres, composition, improvisation. My specialties include pop, rock, metal, funk, jazz, and classical guitar.

I am very open to regular communication with my students to answer questions, share recommended listening or reading, and of course, be on top of scheduling and logistics. I try my best to make our time together a rewarding and fun experience, and to pass forward the great fortune of learning music.

I have a degree in music, and have taught at three summer camps three music stores and two universities.

I have been teaching guitar since 1990. I teach ages 9 and up, and I aim to tailor lessons to work with your natural strengths and learning style.

I offer note-reading but it is optional. We can study guitar using tablature and chord diagrams. The important thing is to make great music, enjoy the process, play songs you like, make steady progress and become independent.

If I teach you well, eventually you won't need me very much- you'll be able to figure things out on your own,

I started playing guitar when I was 4. I've played classical, rock, a bit of jazz, folk, a little bluegrass, and fingerstyle. I love the guitar and I love teaching!

About Carla
Music is my LIFE!

After more than 25 years of teaching at music camps, music stores, 3 colleges and my home, I completely understand that the lessons are all about YOU, the student: what you want to learn, taught to you in a way that works for your brain and personality.

And if you don't know exactly what you want to learn, that's OK. We can figure that out together as we go along learning the basics.

I help students learn to play songs by artists they like.

I also help students write songs, or put chords to their existing lyrics.

For those who are interested, I teach note-reading (not required) and theory (not required) and ear training (not required).

The lessons are always tailored towards your (the student's) goals.

I also teach classical and fingerstyle guitar for the occasional person who specifically wants
either of those styles.

My purpose as a teacher: help people have a fun experience, learning in an organized way, adapted to your learning style and goals, while learning to do exactly what you wanted to do when you decided you wanted to play the guitar.

In 1994, I was let go from my job at a music store because I was sick. Which sounds awful, but was the best thing to ever happen to me- it was then I got over my fears and became a full-time musician, teaching and writing and performing. I have never looked back! I may not be a household name, but I am living the dream.

Whether you want to sing to your kids or play for an audience of 50,000, or just play guitar for yourself, you first have to get started.

Wait no longer! The guitar is calling!

I look forward to getting started!

About Jay
I have over 21 years of experience playing the guitar regularly (acoustic and electric), in and out of bands (just for fun!). I played for 4 years in the Bentley Jazz Band.

I am experienced with teaching beginners. I can teach beginner to advanced level rock/blues/jam and beginner to intermediate level jazz.

Learning a musical instrument is a journey of self-fulfillment, a new way of communicating and bonding with others, and heightens appreciation of music and life itself. I love opening that door for others and bringing them into the world of musicianship.
