I believe that singing lessons should be a lot of fun. With good technique, my students and I can team up to accomplish anything from singing classical songs and even some opera arias to popular songs and musical theater. It is my goal to help you discover your own personal voice, and build confidence
*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons with always begin with warm ups and technique. We'll also focus on an important principal topic, such as breath and support, vowel placement or expression. We'll use some exercises that I have already, or perhaps a new one just for your needs (once I get to know your voice) to help you achieve our goals. We'll then work on 1-2 songs. You'll probably have picked one, and I may have picked one. The concept that we worked on in our technique session will be applied directly to the songs you are working on. You can learn so many different things in each song, we may practice your songs, using a different goal in several different lessons.
All of my students get a chance to perform in occasional "vocal class" settings, where you can sing your favorite songs for one another, in a fun, laid back environment. All students are welcome to participate in an annual recital for their family and friends too! Piano lessons are designed to suit your needs. We can work on the basics for classical playing, read chords, jazz improv and more.
*** Studio Equipment ***
I have my own music studio set up in my apartment. On teaching days, my living room can be a comfortable waiting room for parents/guardians. You are all most welcome to relax, have a cup of tea or coffee and listen to our lessons. I do ask that you do not sit inside the studio (at least not after the first lesson) as this can be distracting for your child. My studio is equipped with a music stand, upright piano, work sheets for theory, pencils and crayons. I also have a full Broadway and classical music library that students can borrow from, CD/DVD's that can be borrowed, and a New Grove Reference set.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring some music, until we assess the student's needs, then they may buy some books, while I provide the rest. I bring theory worksheets, stickers, pencils etc. If a student would like to sing/play a particular song (Broadway/pop etc) I may have it in my music library.If I do not, the student will need to purchase the music they would like to sing. The student would need a keyboard/piano in their home should I travel. I have a piano in my home.

My name is Kyla and I am currently a working actress and substitute teacher. I am on a webseries that just won a pilot competition, I just wrapped a play and start rehearsals for another one in June, and I have done a number of other live shows, short films, and webseries. I have taught theater, I substitute teach, currently, and I have babysat and tutored. I am also an alumni of the University of Southern California (BA) - one of the top universities in the US with one of the best theater (and film) schools! My mission at Northside Charter High School was to create a curriculum that shows our students that their presence is essential to the ever-changing arts community. Due to the success of our program, PBS chose Northside to become an official NewsHour Student Reporting Lab. CNN Director and three-time Emmy award-winning director, Luanne Dietz, mentored our seniors. Students also have the opportunity to utilize PBS’s resources by offering them internships and personal recommendations.
I’ve also worked in conjunction with local Brooklyn galleries such as the RAM Gallery and 630 Flushing to provide Portfolio Development students with the opportunity to display and sell their artwork.

The 2017–18 season featured the premiere of Saad's first major string quartet, commissioned by the Lydian String Quartet, the premiere of Risala, co-commissioned by the Columbus and Princeton Symphony Orchestras, the premiere of Hawa, written for the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, performances of Takht by the Minnesota Orchestra and the Hangzhou Philharm
Recent distinctions include the Charles Ives Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Barlow Endowment General Commission, the S&R Foundation Washington Award Grand Prize, the Jerome Fund for New Music grant from the American Composers Forum, the Palmer Dixon Award from the Juilliard School, the Aaron Copland Residency Award, and multiple awards from ASCAP, BMI, and the Vancouver Chamber Choir. His orchestral works have been performed by the American Composers Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic, Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, Symphony in C, and the symphony orchestras of Albany, Columbus, Milwaukee, New Jersey, Princeton, and Sioux City. His music has been broadcast on stations across the Unites States, including WWFM, MPR, WPRB, and KWIT/KOJI, among others.
Born in Georgia and raised in California, Saad holds degrees in composition from the Juilliard School and the University of Southern California, where his principal teachers included John Corigliano, Mari Kimura, Bruce Broughton, Frank Ticheli, Stephen Hartke, and Donald Crockett. His music is published exclusively by Dib Press.

For as long as I can recall, my curiosity to learn more propelled me to do my own research, so that I became informed enough to discuss such topics with my teachers throughout middle school, high school, and eventually college. Being able to speak candidly and intellectually with my teacher(s) brought me a feeling of accomplishment, satisfaction, and, of course, the desire to keep doing more. Keep doing more research. Keep bringing these lessons to light. Keep expressing my views.
At an old enough age, I became responsible enough to supervise young children giving up my Sunday mornings to being a Hebrew school teacher’s assistant, or madrich, for five years taught me what it is like to work with child
In addition, I would spend my four summers at sleepaway camp as a bunk counselor supervising 10-15 campers at a time, to coaching lacrosse for boys and girls ages 7-17. Furthermore, these concepts of responsibility, leadership, and lesson planning have helped shape me into becoming the educator that I aspire to be.
As a young professional, pursuing my passion for education has become paramount. Since graduating from high school, I have taken advantage of every opportunity to hone such skills. My drive and determination to pursue my passion for education are steadfast. To have the ability to shape young minds through meaningful yet exciting lessons in my very own classroom space is a responsibility and a privilege I will never take lightly.
Furthermore, the knowledge I have gained through various jobs and internships have only further reaffirmed my passion for teaching young minds.
