I studied classical and jazz guitar at the University of Central Florida and can help the student of classical or jazz to understand the theory behind harmony, melody, and rhythm in the Western music traditions.
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.
I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.
*** Lesson Details *** I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!
o Equipment *** I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.
*** Specialties *** Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm. Drums & Percussion: All genres Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)
If there is one thing music education lacks these days, it is music theory. Too often young violinists are made into automatons with the misuse of the Suzuki method. I always ensure my students understand what they are reading on the page of sheet music, with all questions answered. My goal is to teach a man how to fish. I.e. Show the student how to read sheet music so that they can pick up any sheet of music and just play it (known as sight reading).
Beginners typically take 60 minute classes once per week at a recurring time. Young children typically take half hour classes and older children, adult musicians and those on a budget typically take 45 minute classes. The most common lesson length to start with is 60 minutes, as the teacher will need to tune your instrument and help you get set up. Some students choose to take lessons twice per week when a concert is coming up, to catch up from a vacation or if they just want to make faster progress.
In class, you will learn new ...
I deliver two types of lessons: private lessons and group classes. If you are interested in group classes, please inquire for more information.
Finding a trained violinist and finding a good violin teacher are two very different things. When I see other teacher's profiles, they boast of the years of training they had. Anyone can learn to play (that is my philosophy), but it takes a love of teaching to really make a difference in someone's life.
PATIENCE With a love of teaching comes a seemingly endless resource of patience. This is because what the student sees as "patient" is really just a small step in the educational process. It is a fraction of time just before a correction. When you have something new to teach, whether it is a new technique, or a correction of something being done improperly, and you know exactly how to break
it down so it is understandable and accomplish-able, you know it is always a short matter of time before the student gets it. And by short, I mean a matter of seconds, or minutes.
FRIENDLINESS I respect others and what they feel and have to say. I treat others as I would want to be treated and lessons are always a pleasure to my students, because it is a pleasure for me to teach them.
EXPERIENCE I have been playing for over 29 years. I have played with a multitude of local orchestras and bands and have done countless studio recording sessions and live shows. Real-world experience is vital to understanding what people want to listen to.
When you are learning, there is a vast sea of information. Not all of that knowledge is equal in importance. It is most important to distinguish what is important and what is not very important. All of my real-life experience, and continuing experience reveals itself in the form of ensuring my students know what is truly important.
Lessons are fun, because they are productive. I know your happiness is directly related to your success, which is why I guarantee it (as long as you practice). You will walk away being able to do something.
WHAT I EXPECT FROM MY STUDENTS Practice. Practice. Practice. And a winning attitude.
I can even work with you if you don't have a winning attitude, but it makes it more fun when you do!
HOW FAST CAN I EXPECT RESULTS? Some students who were musicians previously leave the first lesson being able to play their first song. Most students however, who have never played an instrument before, can expect to be comfortable bowing (a huge part of the process - half the sound!) within the first few weeks, and will then move on to learning songs. We will be learning sheet music as well, on a very, very easy gradient. After the first couple months, I expect you to tell me a song you might like to learn most so that we can start working on it.
RENTALS I rent out violins of all sizes.
If you have any questions, I am happy to answer them. You can use the contact button on this website and I will gladly answer you.
My son did a 45 minutes class and by the time he was finished he was reading and playing music 🎼🤗. Antoinette made it so easy and simple
July 10, 2017
Antoinette is, by far, the best music instructor that I have ever hired. Music has always been a part of my life. As a child, I took piano lessons for years and continued on and off through college. As a complete novice to the violin, I was nervous to begin such a challenging instrument as an adult hobby. Antoinette is encouraging, intelligent and incredibly skilled. Her calm demeanor and patience is vital to one's success. She focuses on the building blocks to a successful technique with ease. I am incredibly grateful to Antoinette for reminding me of how enjoyable music can be. I look forward to our weekly sessions around my busy work schedule. Her location is conveniently located within walking distance from the subway in NYC.
May 29, 2017
I took violin lessons for a year with an instructor I found through a different organization (not TakeLessons)--and I learned more in one hour with Antoinette than I learned in 30 lessons with that other teacher. In just one lesson, I can see that Antoinette is friendly, smart, encouraging, knows her stuff--and knows how to teach (which not every good player can do). I'm an adult, but I bet she'd be just as great with a student of any age.

My first vocal teacher and the best!
Ms. Rachel was an amazing vocal teacher! We would always start off with simple and fun warm-ups, breathing techniques, and would practice singing songs from musicals. My first couple lessons she taught me how to sing I Feel Pretty from West Side Story and we both had so much fun with it! After a little while we learned Cups from Pitch Perfect and then we got into the Vaccai book and I learned a couple songs from there. Overall Ms. Rachel was the best! She even offered to Skype a lesson with me since she moved. She cared about me and always helped me improve my voice in every way she could. I love her!

Hi, I'm Jason and I am a professional horn player in NYC! I am currently completing my Masters of Music at The Juilliard School where I study with Erik Ralske, principal horn of the Metropolitan Opera. I also play in 511 Brass, a brass quintet based in NYC. I have 3 years of private teaching experience as well as training in pedagogy from the Juilliard School. I work in the recording department at Juilliard and do recordings of colleagues.
In horn lessons, I strive to help the student discover a more relaxed, efficient and enjoyable way of playing the horn. I teach all levels of horn players.
I currently have 2 weekly horn students on take lessons and have openings for more.
Students can learn how to recognize notes, their names, their values, rhythms, various clefs, cadences, chord progressions and their use in intros, outros, turnarounds, etc. And so much more!!
Most work would be on piano but would include rhythm instruments to convey ideas.
I operate in the music arena as a touring musician; a Music Director for musicals, jazz ensembles and choirs; a composer & songwriter; a band teacher at my local elementary school, a private instructor and a producer with a degree in Jazz Composition and Professional Music from Berklee College of Music. I am currently performing and writing with Divinity Roxx (Beyonce, Victor Wooten, etc.), Elle Winston, Kate Vargas and others. Most of my writing and creating is done here in my private studio. I am proud to have produced tracks featured by the likes of Elton John on his Beats 1 Radio (Apple Music) station. That is to say, I'm really proud of the artists and having such an inspired space.
I have, and continue to be honored to perform all over the world with some of the most prolific players this planet has seen and those it will experi
ence in the coming years. I find playing music can be a great source of inspiration and release. But most importantly, everyone has a voice to be heard through music.
I have taught privately since I was in high school on my own. Over the years, I have also been affiliated with some amazing entities. Additionally, my work in arts administrative (Brooklyn Academy of Music -BAM, UVA Music) and my new affiliation with Zoo Labs translates into my ability to show you skills that will garnish success when you aren't playing music.
My students can expect growth in knowledge of rhythm, understanding of music and song forms. Your timing will improve! Your feel for styles (blues, rock, jazz, hip hop, EDM, etc.) will improve! Your technique will be through the roof!! I empower my students to do whatever they can dream to do with music, whether it is for personal enrichment or personal ambition.
I will demystify anything you feel is outside of your reach and grow you into the musician you want to be. My private studio is a fully equipped playground for the musically-minded with all the tools and materials you need to grow as a musician, so all you need to bring is your imagination. I look forward to the journey.
Granville is an excellent teacher ! He is a able to teach technique to my 3 year old in a way that he instantly gets it. The vast array of instruments he has available for my son to experience is a musical playground!
September 18, 2018
Great lesson with Granville! Very insightful and patient teacher and the lesson was a great mix of technique and playing. Very much looking forward to the next lessons.

Granville is extremely knowledgeable, patient, organized and invested. Recommend him to EVERYONE!
"I have been taking theory/harmony lessons with Mr. Joseph Nikita for 4 years now and couldn't be any more satisfied with his teaching style. Mr. Nikita
takes the complex concepts of music harmony and breaks them down to the point where they become easy to understand, retain, and apply to my homework and compositions. One thing I much admire in Mr. Nikita's teaching is the variability in his explanations. I don't prefer learning in a lecture-style environment (where the teacher lectures and the student takes notes), so Mr. Nikita takes each topic and explains it in multiple ways - using real-life applications and examples. This helps me obtain a clear understanding of each lesson - making it easy to go in depth in music harmony."
"We were great peers in college
I had the privilege to work with Melissa when I was a student at Cornish College of the Arts. Melissa was always so dedica
ted and encouraging towards me and my musical goals. If I had a question she would be right there to help me solve it. Melissa's strongest suit in my opinion is her ability to compose music. She is extremely patient, passionate and detailed in her work. Thanks Melissa for everything!"
"I had been wanting to learn how to play the guitar for years and for my B-day my girlfriend bought me some lessons. She couldn't have picked a better plac
e to buy the lessons from. Ahmad makes you feel comfortable and really understands the way that people learn and how to teach in the most effective way. The guitar is a tough instrument to learn and you want to learn from someone knowledgeable and patient and that's exactly what Ahmad is."
"Shon is an expert at all aspects of teaching music on multiple instruments but is especially gifted at teaching music theory that helped me learn to play
by numbers which helped me change keys on the fly. No more writing out the chords for praise and worship music. So knowledgeable. You need to stop think about it and call him up and schedule your first lesson. Shon rocks!!"
"Very friendly, great with kids"
"Ms. Kuborssy sure does know her stuff when it comes to music! She's not only professional and talented but also a great teacher. She's very patient with b
eginners but also knows how to push those that really have the potential to do something great. If you have a chance, definitely study with Ms. K!!!"
"Jeffery breaks down the basics of Classical and Jazz Theory and gives you methods to master new concepts and directly apply them to improvisation and comp
"Paul not only has a passion for music, but he has a passion for teacjing music and sharing his gift with others."
"I have been taking lessons with Jimmy for 3 years and could not ask for a better teacher. He makes my interest grow and has a wealth of knowledge and the
patience to share it. He challenges me regularly. I only wish I had found him sooner as previous instructors never had the flexibility or patience that Jimmy has. Learning in such a relaxed environment has worked very well for me. My son has since started lessons with Jimmy as well and it has become a great experience for both of us."
