I am a certified teacher with a master's degree in Radio, TV, Film and one in education as well. I was an adjunct professor of photography at Manhattan's New School for Social Research for 10 years and have spent another 10 years teaching other adults as well as adolescents photography. I have conducted private lessons as well as workshops in my own studio.
My teaching is unique because, unlike many photography clubs where members voice their various opinions on photographs, my technique involves an objective approach where lessons are given each time that can be analyzed to see if requirements of the assignment were met. This way, the student learns not just through critiques, but by comparing his or her results to successful examples. I also do quite a bit of field work and teaching by example. It's the most effective way to learn. I get students putting their digital cameras on "MANUAL" right away and they master the concepts of correct exposure right off the bat.

About William

I have been doing commercial photography for over 40 years. I owned and operated a large studio on West 22nd Street in NYC for 20 of those years and I taught photography from 1988 to the present. I have never stopped. I like one-on-one sessions, but I have also conducted many workshops and classes

It's such a joy to take classes with Margarita. As a children's librarian by profession I'm impressed with how well she teaches and inspires children, always a lot of smiles in her classes. As an adult returning to art I'm learning so much about the core fundamentals that are taking my art to the next level. Margarita is an expert teacher, kind, considerate, and dedicated to helping her students achieve and develop their potential and talent. I highly recommend her, and her classes.

My son is a beginner in drawing and is a bit apprehensive about his drawing skills. I really appreciated and liked Margarita's approach, setting music to create a relaxing atmosphere for drawing, explaining the steps, and the foundation for sketching. I think we approached drawing wrongly and after the lesson I changed our way. We play music now (which he likes) and he is drawing more often and is more relaxed.

My daughter attends Ms Maggie's art exploration program. Ms Maggie is very patient with children and brings out the best in her students. My daughter has learnt a lot of techniques in art under her guidance and looks forward to art class every week. I'm so happy and grateful that my daughter has a wonderful art teacher. Search no further if you're on the lookout for an art teacher for your child.

Whether you have never picked up your DSLR camera before or are starting to become serious about photography, my lessons will help you get on the right track. I have been teaching Photoshop on Takelessons for 3 years now, and I am now deciding to expand my lessons and offer photography as well. We can go over how to use your camera, what gear you should bring, lenses, how to control: shutter speed, aperture, ISO, etc. We can get into technical aspects such as printing, post processing, and sharing your images online as well. I am a "Canon guy", so that is my specialty!

Sam is not only knowledgeable about Photoshop...he's an EXPERT! What made my experience particularly pleasant is Sam's degree of patience with my learning speed and providing simple tips and insights on what certain functions "really" mean.
I was just not understanding some of the terms and functions...Sam broke it down in "beginner" terms for me. Which is what I needed.
Yup! I'll take more Photoshop lessons from Sam!

As a teacher for 7 years one of my favorite things is bringing the arts into teaching. I've taught infants through adults, beginners and advanced, and the one secret I can absolutely tell you about learning, is if you are happy then you are going to learn a lot more! I'm excited to get to know you and make you smile!

One of my favorite categories of painting is abstract. I love to see colors swirl, shapes form, and ideas flow in a free form way. Abstract is great for beginners, because you get a chance to grow in your confidence while growing your blending and brush technique.

About Loren

I'm an artist, musician, and language aficionada. I have a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Georgia, graduating with honors as a Magna Cum Laude in Spanish and French Linguistics. I am fluent in both languages. One thing I love about teaching is bringing the arts into the process of learnin

"Think about it this way. Sandra has had dinner with Ansel Adams. She's worked in the White House three times as a picture editor. She was part of a team that won a Pulitzer Prize. She loves photography and she loves to look at photographs. And most importantly she loves to work with photographers regardless of their "level". You will learn about your photographs. You will learn about yourself. But don't be intimidated by her background. She is NOT one of those photography guru experts who try to motivate by tearing you down. She builds on where you are as a photographer. Instead of telling you that a photograph is no good she might tell you that "you should be doing more of this type of photograph." Whatever it costs to learn from Sandra is cheap. What you will learn is priceless."

"I needed to start from the ground up with oil painting, and Eleanor was patient and very knowledgeable. She walked through the basics via a painting of a photo of mine we chose for appropriateness for my level. I learned many techniques over the course of my lessons that have had an empowering effect. I now feel confident in working with oils.

Something I appreciated was her self-paced approach. I never felt rushed or held back. In terms of personality, Eleanor is bright and kind. She was fantastic about keeping me focused and correcting my techniques (I liked this especially because I didn't want to start off forming bad habits). I really wanted to get a solid understanding of painting with oils that I can apply on my own, and I certainly have. In the future I hope to work with Eleanor again as I further develop my skills."
