Nick coached my daughter, Ann, through her South Bay Teen Idol Competition, in which she was a finalist. Ann was competing against singers with more years of experience, but the superior quality of Nick's instruction enabled her to be competitive.

I've been teaching math for 7 years and my students have gone on to develop a stronger connection with the subject after their time with me. Within the first few sessions, you'll be able to fully understand the concept you're working on and as time goes on you'll develop skills for problem solving that make all topic easier. I specialize in 5th through 12th grade, and am familiar with several curriculums and textbooks, including Illustrative Math, CME, Pearson EnVision, and Bridges. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Ethan
MUSIC LESSONS: Whether I am playing salsa, solo classical piano, in a jazz ensemble, or a concert band, I am ALWAYS having fun doing what I love, and I want you to have the same experience. After moving to Philadelphia ten years ago to study at Temple University, where I received my Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance, I have had many great opportunities to play all types of music with all types of people. While my passions are in jazz music, composing, and arranging, my varied experience helps me pass on the fundamentals necessary to becoming a great musician while also adapting to your goals, needs, and musical preferences.

*** Lesson Details ***
I aim for students to leave each lesson eager to practice and explore, and to come back with questions and stories of their progress. To that end, I work hard to tailor lessons to every
individuals interests and goals. Sometimes this means arranging, transcribing a recording, or even composing something new for my students. Additionally, in each lesson, I balance technical skills, ear training, and music theory to assure that each student walks away a complete musician, all structured around your musical goals.

*** Travel Equipment ***
The student must provide their own instrument and assigned method books. I will provide a music stand if necessary, and other useful instructional tools (metronome, tuner, etc.)

*** Home Studio ***
I offer lessons in my home located within walking distance of Broad Street in South Philadelphia, near the Tasker-Morris subway stop. I am equipped with a well-playing upright piano and plenty of space for musical activities. There is ample street parking in the area during the afternoon and early evening, and our living room is available to parents while students take their lesson. Students who travel to me for lessons gain all the benefits of performing on a piano, rather than an electric keyboard, and have access to many more resources that I am able to offer from my home, such as recordings and method books.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize teaching "late starters" (teens and adults new to piano) fundamentals in music in a fun and exciting way that will have you playing the music you love quickly.

For brass instruments, I am able to help brand new beginners build up their sound and facility through simple exercises that will have them astounded by their progress.

MATH: I use my years of classroom teaching and Master's degree in math education as experience to help guide you to the success you are seeking. I am able to tailor sessions to your specific needs with a few key points in mind:

- helping you catch-up, while also preparing you for what is ahead
- balancing practice with conceptual knowledge and application
- using research-based techniques to maximize your learning

I am a patient teacher, and well-equipped to explain tough topics in multiple ways. I like to use visuals and objects with simple examples to help my students really understand a concept before we try harder material. Total understanding and confidence is my goal for you.

My personal interests in mathematics are problem solving, puzzles, and combinatorics (think "How many different outfits can I make with all the clothes in my closet?"). If you're looking for an addicting puzzle to try, I suggest KenKen to all my students.

We (me and my 6 year old daughter) have taken piano lessons for more than 1 year now, and it has been amazing experience for both of us. He is very knowledgeable, patient and enthusiastic music teacher. We had no experience to start with, but now both of us are comfortable with the instrument and the music notes. He is very flexible with his teaching style to accomodate personal preferences and levels.
I would certainly recommend him to anyone who wants to learn piano.

I can only go to certain sections of the city, and I can only give you lessons on weekday afternoons between 12-2pm. Sorry, no evening classes. Math has always been my favorite subject. I admire its necessity found everywhere in nature. I've been teaching for about two years now. I focus on the ability to read and write math as a language. This is what bridges the gap between memorizing math and understanding math. Being a student myself I've noticed a lot of teachers fail to take this approach in the classrooms, leaving math to become a boring and tamed subject with nothing more than a bunch of seemingly random steps. However, this couldn't be further from the truth! My lessons will boost your understanding of math in a way that makes you excited to keep learning more!

About Corey
Hi my name is Corey, I'm currently a full-time student in the Bay Area. I'm pursuing a degree in Computer Science and I'm a huge nerd when it comes to math and other subjects of science. I have a strong passion for helping other students just like myself excel in their academic goals!

I began tutoring once I got back in school. At first, it started off as a little side gig I didn't I think much of; for me, it was a fun act of kindness that also gave me a chance to better understand material I already knew. It was after I got positive feedback from students when I realized tutoring is something I really enjoy and started taking far more seriously.

As a tutor the most effective approach I found is to first make sure my students have a firm grasp on the first principles involved and expand from there by taking a deeper dive into the
abstract of the concept at hand. I always teach in general notation along with a visual basis as this greatly helps my students better understand the concepts they're learning. From here I transition into individual and situational cases giving my student a chance to show me how well they are understanding the lesson.

The goal I set for myself as a tutor is to be sure that my students understand every topic covered on the same level that I understand it myself. So far in my approach this has shown to be the best method in achieving this goal. Most of the students I've worked with were on the verge of failing their classes and in fact these are the student I like to focus on because it gives me the opportunity to show that my approach to learning works, with everyone of my students finishing out their semester nothing short of a B.

If you're interested in taking one of my lessons and think my approach to learning is something that will work for you, please contact me and let's get that A this semester!

Corey has been the best tutor I've learned from! I started taking lessons with him about half way through a semester that I was taking trig. At this time I had a D in the class and was completely lost during lectures, just after two lessons with him my understanding in trig sky rocketed, I was able to move my grade from a D to a B! There's no way I could've done this without his help!

I will work with you to help you take control of your own math understanding, and use that understanding to progress mathematically, for whatever your purpose. Whether it's to get through a math class that you're struggling with, or building up confidence to even take a math class, or even if you just want to chat about some math concept that has been bugging you for days.

I've been teaching math at a community college since 2010, and in various other places before then. I focus on creating deep understanding of concepts, and connecting that understanding to related concepts. I'll ask you a lot about how you understand things, so that we can work together to build a bridge between what you already know and what you're trying to learn. Math is best when it is creative and visual, so we will include as many visual aids as possible, possibly with me asking you to gather some blocks to arrange, or by screen sharing on some free software.

A note on lessons: while your homework may be a ...

About Kendra
I teach math at an urban community college, where I have taught subjects ranging from basic arithmetic to algebra, geometry, calculus, and linear algebra. I'm also a parent to a young child, with whom I have lots of mathematical conversations. My teaching focuses on helping students to understand concepts internally, rather than just memorize and mimic steps to complete problems. My real passion in teaching is to help each individual person to take prideful ownership of their understanding of math, at whatever level, and feel joy and confidence in learning.

For my "day job" I work with a student body that is incredibly diverse, both in culture and in incoming abilities. Through this work, I have practice in being sensitive to every individual who comes into my classroom. I have a core belief that every student is capable of learning ma
th at the highest level. I've taught many hundreds of students over the years, and I've never met one who has changed my mind on that belief.

About Professor (Kair) R.

I teach mathematics from a graphics, as well as real world perspective. Students learn to understand the underlying elements of a concept and then use that understanding to solve both numerical and verbal problems. I prefer to facilitate instruction basic mathematics. If one has the foundation, then everything else is apricots and sprinkles math wise. I prefer to assist students who need help understanding basic algebra and basic geometry. I am not averse to working with elementary level mathematics for pre-secondary level students. I have worked with pre-schoolers to college freshman in need of assistance with College Algebra. That is where math fun lies for me-- in helping to set the groundwork.

About Professor (Kair)
I love to teach and especially love to teach math and writing. I like to focus on mathematics, which to me is like writing, because students sometimes think that if they are good at one (for example, writing) then they cannot be good at the other. I am here to tell you that you can understand and be good at both. I teach both. My writing (as well as literature and speech communication students) learn from me and get to think mathematically while my math students get to think like writers (everything is planned and is a process). It may sound complicated or strange, but it really is not. Math is pure fun! Math is about patterns, and colours, and music, and shapes, and just about everything that makes ideas come to life! Like my writing students embark upon a journey toward being successful in an area in which they may not have had much suc
cess in the past. So, I say to all who wish to work with me: Hold your breath. Exhale with a smile. Dive into the world of math and math sense!
