During my time with students, I strive to assist them in taking risks, discovering the joy of music, and making progress with their singing. No matter what their goals are- All-State Choir, opera, musical theatre, or just having fun, I love helping them reach them. By looking at different genres of vocal music, we will focus on many different aspects of singing, from music theory, to expressive performance, to the foundation of healthy singing.
I believe that every student is unique and learns in his or her own way. Therefore, I tailor the pace and focus of lessons on each student’s interests and abilities. I believe it is integral for all students to have an understanding of music theory and therefore, work on theory and sight-reading. In addition, I think a well-rounded musical education is key, and work on an array of genres with my students including folk songs, art songs, and musical theatre. Students will work on 2-5 songs at once, and will consider a song "learned" once ...

Meg is a wonderful teacher who I would recommend to anybody. One of the things I loved about her was how patient she was with me, even when I became frustrated with myself. She creates an open and warm environment where I felt free to make mistakes and explore my voice, but would always have learned something new at the end of each lesson.

A sound classical technique is used as the foundation for all lessons, allowing students to sing in any style they choose. All students are encouraged to learn music theory and ear training to the level that they require for their chosen art form. I encourage students to fin their individual voice and style, and make their music in the healthiest way possible. We have a lot of fun, build confidence, and learn from each other!
About Bridget
I believe that singing lessons should be a lot of fun. With good technique, my students and I can team up to accomplish anything from singing classical songs and even some opera arias to popular songs and musical theater. It is my goal to help you discover your own personal voice, and build confidence
*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons with always begin with warm ups and technique. We'll also focus on an important principal topic, such as breath and support, vowel placement or expression. We'll use some exercises that I have already, or perhaps a new one just for your needs (once I get to know your voice) to help you achieve our goals. We'll then work on 1-2 songs. You'll probably have picked one, and I may have picked one. The concept that we worked on in our technique session will be applied directly to the songs you are working on. You can learn so many different things in each song, we may practice your songs, using a different goal in several different lessons.
All of my students get a chance to perform in occasional "vocal class" settings, where you can sing your favorite songs for one another, in a fun, laid back environment. All students are welcome to participate in an annual recital for their family and friends too! Piano lessons are designed to suit your needs. We can work on the basics for classical playing, read chords, jazz improv and more.
*** Studio Equipment ***
I have my own music studio set up in my apartment. On teaching days, my living room can be a comfortable waiting room for parents/guardians. You are all most welcome to relax, have a cup of tea or coffee and listen to our lessons. I do ask that you do not sit inside the studio (at least not after the first lesson) as this can be distracting for your child. My studio is equipped with a music stand, upright piano, work sheets for theory, pencils and crayons. I also have a full Broadway and classical music library that students can borrow from, CD/DVD's that can be borrowed, and a New Grove Reference set.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring some music, until we assess the student's needs, then they may buy some books, while I provide the rest. I bring theory worksheets, stickers, pencils etc. If a student would like to sing/play a particular song (Broadway/pop etc) I may have it in my music library. If I do not, the student will need to purchase the music they would like to sing. The student would need a keyboard/piano in their home should I travel. I have a piano in my home.
*** Specialties ***
Classical singing, Musical Theater, Jazz, music for young children, pop singing, audition preparation, beginning music for adults.

I have been teaching people how to sing for the past 13 years, and in that time I have seen my students grown and flourish. My background is in classical voice, however my singing career taken me from the opera stage, to musical theater and even to rock and world music.
I work hard to give my students a solid and real understanding of how their voice works, and what they need to do to make it better.
Many students who started with me while in High School have gone on to attend of some of the most prestigious schools in the country including The Julliard School, Indiana School of Music, Carnegie Mellon, New England Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music and Peabody. As a musical theater performer, I perform a wide range of genres from pop-rock to legit-musical theater! No matter if you're singing Adele or Rogers and Hammerstein, it's possible to sing all genres in healthy way so that your instrument keeps getting stronger, without losing the joy for the music. With a background in the Alexander Technique and Linklater, I emphasize a healthy approach to singing. Lessons will be catered to the student's individual goals and needs, but will focus on releasing unnecessary tension and building a strong foundation for the voice.
About Lauren
While most of my life has been spent performing, I discovered a love for teaching after college. I have been teaching music and theater for 5 years, and two years ago I began teaching ESL to elementary students in Turkey. I fell in love with teaching English, and feel my training in theater and music helps me use different, exciting teaching techniques in our lessons. I am conversational in both Turkish and Spanish as well!
No matter if we're working on music, acting, or English, I'm incredibly committed to my students and want each lesson to be fun and motivational. I'm a patient, supportive teacher, and know that each student is unique and moves at his/her own pace!
