Sylivan is a great teacher with great personality. He was there to help me not only when I struggled with music and guitar but also when I felt down. I asked him why he cared so much and he told me a healthy mind is most important which helps in music learning =) Sylivan is also patient; even sometimes I can't stand myself but he was there to help me to learn lol He has passion in teaching and you can see it once he's in action.

About Juan

Originally from Colombia, Juan Calderon has been a resident of New York City since 2008. His music blends classical, modern, and avant-garde elements. He draws from his experience as a recording and touring rock guitarist in Colombia and Miami, his studies of East Asian music, inspired by interacti

Juan is wonderful and very knowledgeable in music. He is very patient and makes you feel comfortable. I leave a lesson feeling like I am accomplished and relaxed. It nice to see progress in such a little time. I go home with enthusiasm to learn more and want practice to do so.
Chrystine R.
With a patient and intuitive approach, Juan tailors each lesson to fit not only the student’s skill level, but also desire for depth of understanding. When I first began taking lessons, I was only able to plunk a few chords and play along with a few basic songs. However, over the course of a year and a half with Juan, I gained a foundational knowledge of the classical guitar, as well as the confidence to site read and play a range of other styles of guitar music. He seamlessly integrated music theory concepts into song studies, helping me learn major/minor scales and chord shapes, and then apply this knowledge to better understand song structures and composition. It has been such a great experience learning from Juan, especially because he is both an exemplary teacher and guitar player!

Juan is awesome. He makes learning guitar easy and never complicates it .. and makes it fun. He's a great teacher.

Is it about how you perform? Not sure what 'music performance' is as a subject lesson but I know a LOT about music so I am sure there is something to learn.

About Anastasia

After Anastasia’s Carnegie Hall Debut in 2006, the New York Concert Review wrote: "For a critic, hearing a new pianist with a truly warm, luscious tone is like breathing in the scent of jasmine blooming - a pleasure to be recalled again and again - and so I'm happy to report that from the first not

As an adult beginner, I chose Anastasia for more personalized instruction, especially in technique, after learning the basics through community center group lessons. I have not continued only because another equally well-qualified instructor who lives close by, within walking distance, has become available. I am very pleased with the lessons and pointers that I have received. Anastasia is professional, encouraging, and friendly. An especially helpful part of her instruction is the set of comments and suggestions that she writes down to guide practice between lessons. If the neighbor instructor does not work out, I’ll be back.

In the very first lesson Dmitri was able to fix my breathy singing voice issue once and for all! I am so happy with him and could not recommend him more!
He really speaks several languages and has a vast knowledge not only on technique but on repertoire and style.
Most importantly is that he is patient and so encouraging.

"Karen’s recitals, showcasing 6 to 12 students each time, always thrill
me. Men, women, boys, & girls of all ages and various degrees of
achievement stand before their audience with confidence. They have
practiced, not only the pieces which they play, but showmanship, not
pushy or cocky, but polite and welcoming. They make eye contact and
smile; some invite the crowd to sing along on the choruses. Even the
1st year students exude confidence.

The crowd returns those smiles, along with cheers and clapping. One
can tell that Karen has kindly and persistently shown and encouraged
each student. If any show fear, she does not chide; she accompanies
them in the performance and nods approval as they continue. I watch
that fear subside. They are then met with handshakes and pats on the
back. Next time, they will be even more eager to share the pieces that
they worked on and not expect criticism.

Karen picks a theme and arranges guitar, piano, and voice selections,
intermingled into a program that leaves a person well entertained and
planning to come back next time. I am not related to any of the
participants and have no obligation to be at the recitals. I love the
music, the talent, and the progress that I see and hear. You, too,
will be glad you came."

Music History in a Nutshell: And Why it's So Important to Learn

The history of music is a history of aesthetics and trends throughout the centuries. Music follows in the footsteps of the other arts – literature, painting, and architecture – and is usually a result of changes in society that stem from the changing ideas of philosophers, politicians, church, and other leading factors in society. This article aims to provide the beginner musician a nutshell overview of the different periods in music history by discussing the type of music and aesthet …
