About Nicole
New York-based pianist Nicole Brancato is an award-winning and adventurous performer, composer/arranger, and teacher. As an emerging artist, she has performed nationally and internationally at such venues as Lincoln Center, 92Y, Joe’s Pub of the Public Theater, and the Cutting Room in New York City; the Rialto Theater in Atlanta, GA; and the Teatro Degli Unanimi in Arcidosso, Italy.

Ms. Brancato recently had her television debut on the international network Rai Italia, performing an intimate concert in the series “L’altra Italia.” Her big band project “The Titanics,” for which she acted as pianist and lead arranger, was deemed “brilliant” by New York Magazine and was featured multiple times in The New Yorker and Time Out New York.

With her passion for programming both traditional and contemporary music, Ms. Brancato receives great a
cclaim from audiences: “I am still reeling from Nicole’s recital,” said a Metropolitan Opera Guild board member, “The way she played … will stay with me forever.” She can be seen performing as a solo artist as well as a part of her two chamber ensembles, Audible Abstraction - a bold new music trio - and 2Squared - a dynamic piano duo. Additionally, Ms. Brancato has won multiple competitions, most recently winning the Hunter Symphony’s Aria and Concerto competition with Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G.

Ms. Brancato holds an M.A. in piano performance from Hunter College in New York City and a B.M. in piano performance from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. She graduated summa cum laude from both institutions and was awarded the Benno Lee Prize at Hunter for an outstanding Master’s Recital. She is a member of the American College of Musicians’ Piano Guild and has studied with the likes of Geoffrey Burleson and William Wolfram. She has over 10 years of teaching experience, specializing in piano, composing and arranging, and music theory.

Nicole is awesome. She adapts lessons to match your skill level, nurtures proper and useful technique (while pinpointing and discouraging bad habits early on), and encourages you the whole way through. She teaches with enthusiasm and knowledge above expectations, and gets you excited for the work, incorporating theory and composition into her lessons. Highly recommended.

About Elliott
I am a classically trained singer living, working, and teaching in NYC. I have a degree in vocal performance from The University of Maryland at College Park. While in the D.C. Metro area I performed as a chorister and soloist at The National Shrine, Metropolitan A.M.E Church, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. My exposure to a wide range of music, from baroque to contemporary gospel and musical theater, has strongly influenced my teaching. My goal is always to help a student develop their own understanding and experience of singing in a way that is fun, interactive, and personal while also progressively building a strong technique.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are generally split between technical work/ warm-ups and repertoire. I like to adapt my concepts to a students individual personality and capability, in that
sense I am flexible about the approach taken to achieve optimal results. Every singer thinks and communicates differently and I see it as my job to figure out what will work best for you. I think that a foundation in a classical approach gives students the biggest toolkit which to work. Once the fundamentals are firmly established, that singer then has the ability to approach any style of music in a way that is healthy and secure.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Programmable Digital Piano and Recording Equipment.

*** Specialties ***
The approach I take to the voice is based in the tradition of classical bel canto singing. It is always my goal to help students understand how to use their breath and body to produce sound that is free of tension and, therefore, beautiful.

I was a total novice and the progress that I’ve shown over the past several months under Elliot's guidance is almost miraculous to me. He is honest and tough but always encouraging. His approach is quite surgical, technical and focuses on finessing the finest details in how you engage your body to create the best sound possible. My bad habits were identified and I was given efficient tools to counteract them. After singing for so long with improper technique I needed a teacher who could throw me in the deep end and the results speak for themselves. Crazy value for money!

My 14 year old daughter loves music lessons from Ophelia. I can say this is the first time my daughter has ever expressed this much interest in music. I was glad I was able to find Ophelia through another friend of mine whose daughter also learns from Ophelia. Whenever Ophelia teaches a new piece of music, she goes over the composer's history with her, teaches the theory behind the piece, and does a ton of musicianship training. The lessons are truly worth their cost. It makes my daughter learn so much, just as if she was going to school. I've got to say, Ophelia is worth her price tag. Anywhere else with this kind of private music training would probably go for at least $100 per 45 minute or more.

Ophelia is truly wonderful for helping my daughter pick up piano again. She is 15 years old and there's a lot of distractions that kept her from practicing piano. Ophelia was able to help her find interest in it again. Her teaching style is truly unique. After my daughter took her lessons she gradually became a better and happier musician and not just play off the books. Ophelia teaches music theory, singing and more to really help benefit my daughter overall! I will definitely be recommending her to my daughter's classmates!

REALLY...

He has been unreliable from the start. He was out of town then when he got back, I had to keep emailing to get an appointment even set up. So far only one lesson in over a month.
My reason was to learn to sing one song and music performance... NOT music theory. I knew going in I had bad pitch but since I am not looking to be a professional singer just learn to perform one song the best to my ability... more jazzy.

Well, He is stuck in his ways and will only be my teach if I am willing to stick to the basic until he thinks I am ready. He also though me wanting to learn how to perform the song that I picked because... I like the style and think it will help me with acting, as if I wanted him to be an acting coach. Really...

Now I have already paid for lessons with him so I hope things can turn around. Teaching is a gift that is more then just technical knowledge.

I guess if your interest is musical theater you might do better with him....

At my lessons, I use the experience and knowledge that I have acquired from over 10 years of playing and studying music to teach students how to take their playing to the next level and reach their goals.

I attended Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, TX, and am now one semester shy from graduating from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, a conservatory in New York City.

I find the best way to learn is in a fun, stress-free environment where the instructor pays close attention to the needs of their students. I believe in cultivating an appreciation for jazz and other styles of music, paying close attention to detail, and building a strong foundation through focused practice.

My personal philosophy of music is to explore and learn as much from my students as I can teach them. For me teaching is like going on an adventure to find something together. I've been able to play all over the world and tour with many different musicians and the thing that made the core of every great performance was the human interaction and communication. For me music is about being more human. This is something I just as much try to impart and teach in my lessons as theory and technique.

I'm a professional trombonist with a strong musical background: I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Performance - Trombone from City College of New York and Michigan State University. I have 7 years of experience teaching students of all ages and levels, and I have been working as a freelancer since I was 17.

I originally arrived in NYC from Argentina at 9-years old. The rich musical environment of NYC allowed me to study and absorb all styles of music at a young age.

I have had the opportunities to study with trombone masters such as Michael Dease, Jason Jackson and Wycliffe Gordon. These learning experiences directly affect the development of my students.

I currently play in a wide range of musical situations all over NYC, from jazz combos and big bands, to musicals and classical orchestras and even other genres such as
Reggea, Ska, Rock, Pop etc.

As my student, you will develop critical skills that will help build a strong musical foundation which will define you as a musician. I will evaluate the level in which you currently are and provide a clear defined path in order to reach our goals.
One thing I strongly focus on is your love for music. My goal is not only to see you progress, but to love the music and have fun with what you are playing.

I can't wait to work with you and help you reach your ultimate goals!

I went to Mr Espinosa's home to take my lesson - the place is right next to the 135th subway stop, very convenient! Mr Espinosa was patient, understanding, and friendly. I was a little worried that a professional like him would laugh at the embarrassing skills of an adult like mine - didn't happen. He was down to earth despite his great playing, kind of more like a friend or a big buddy rather than a teacher. I think our lesson brought me much improvement! He also taught me some helpful daily practice routines. Another little touching detail was he provided me with free drinks and snacks, something none of my other teachers have done before. His studio was also fully equipped: it has a piano, great stereo, stands, and music books.
