I began learning mandolin several years ago and am proficient with chords and tunes. Classical or bluegrass style. I can teach sight reading music notation as well.

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.
Drums & Percussion: All genres
Piano: Classical (includes sight reading)

I’ve been taking guitar lessons with Nick now for a few months and it’s been a terrific experience — cannot say enough good things. Each lesson builds on the last and Nick tailors them to my ability and musical interests mixing in enough music theory, which makes learning both productive and enjoyable. Most importantly I feel like I’m beginning to understand how music works and not just blindly memorizing patterns or scales. I considered online courses before choosing Nick, but there’s no substitution for one-to-one instruction. Nick’s feedback and instruction are invaluable.

I was a little concerned about trying to pick up guitar in my early 40s, but its been a rewarding experience so far and I’m looking forward to more lessons with Nick.

Nick has been teaching my 7 year old guitar for one year now. His excellent, progressive curriculum, patience, and allowing my son to pick some of the music has fostered a joy in his playing and even the work that goes into learning a difficult instrument. My son even "teaches" me a weekly lesson. I couldn't recommend Nick enough!

My Teaching Philosophy

Left Hand-
Scales and arpeggios our the bedrock of music. They are the foundation of everything harmonically and melodically. We will begin with learning our major, minor and pentatonic scales and corresponding arpeggios. Once we have an understanding of those we will delve into our modes and more “exotic” scales.

Right Hand-
The right hand is our time machine. It gives us the ability to play in time and with groove and feel. We will work on rhythmic studies string crossings and practicing with a metronome. Remembering music is harmony, Melody and rhythm working as one.
For those who are new to playing music the hardest thing for some to master is rhythm/time keeping. It is the black and white right or wrong of the music world. Often times our want to progress quickly is hampered by skipping over the basic building blocks of rhythm and time keeping.
The first critical step is the concept of subdivision. Subdivision it the mind ...

I started playing acoustic guitar when I was seven years old (off and on). I then started traveling more and found the mandolin to be so much easier to carry around and so much fun, it was hard to stop playing it. I have been playing and teaching mostly bluegrass, old time, Irish, blues, and swing jazz styles for many years. I have taught both privately and have also done various workshops at festivals. I have taught multiple years for instance at the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival in PA, The Traditions week at Common Ground on the Hill Festival in MD, etc
My students learn to have fun with music. Students can work on rhythms, melodies, improvisation, song writing, arranging tunes, music theory, getting into and/or hanging on in a jam session, etc.

About Tara
I have a Masters in Education as well as having spent many years performing, teaching in one on one and group settings both privately and at music camps and festivals. I play and teach bluegrass, old time, Irish, and swing jazz styles. I like my students to really enjoy playing music and their lessons as well as learning to become fluent in the language of music. It is not required that folks learn to read music necessarily, but it can be a part of the lessons if desired. I love to see my students able to continue learning and playing on their own, be able to hold their own at jams and on the stage is they so desire, or just enjoy making music for themselves. I have techniques that have proven effective to help get past jam phobia, that help folks learn to improvise who have not had any luck with doing so before, and help getting away fro
m sheet music addictions to be able to have fun and confidence out at jams. I also can give a good foundation in music theory as it applies to one's actual playing and have it be fun and make sense.

Mandolin is a delightful instrument to study and is a great addition if you are already a guitarist or a singer looking to accompany themselves in unique ways. As with my guitar lessons, I design a student's curriculum to fit each individual's needs and desires. I can teach reading and music theory, but also get you strumming along to your favorite songs or learning how to flatpick basic bluegrass tunes. My goal with any instrumental lessons is to get a student to think for themselves on their instrument through a balance of ear training and functional knowledge of the instrument.

About Chris
Are you interested in being able to confidently play lead and rhythm parts in a band? Want to learn to write songs? Want to learn to just strum along to your favorite records by yourself? I will teach you or your child all of the knowledge and tools needed to do whatever your dream is on your instrument. My aim is to help every student achieve their personal goals on their instrument within the context of a relaxed and patient environment that promotes a love of music!

I achieve this by:

1) Individualizing lesson plans so that each student stays engaged and learns in the style that is best for them as learners.

2) Ensuring that students learn BOTH how to play their instrument as well as the theory behind what they are playing. This creates a more well-rounded musician that is capable of problem solving on their instrument an
d being able to play in a variety of settings.

I have been playing music for over 10 years and teaching private lessons since 2014. My professional performance experience includes solo guitar gigs, rock band shows, musical theatre pit work, dance band playing, plus various gigs in Nashville, around the Eastern United States, and even in Scotland!

I graduated from Belmont University in the Spring of 2018 with a degree in Commercial Music, so I have had the "conservatory training" in regards to music theory and history, but before college I was largely a self taught player and am now a professionally performing musician here in Nashville.

Have been working on some ear training stuff that other instructors maybe would not have taken the time to work with me on! I am known by my friends and fellow pickers as The Banjo Guru, a nickname given to me by my life long friend Paul Priest. I have my own studio where I teach music to a wide range of students from the ages of five to eighty. Since 1978 I have taught guitar, banjo, mandolin, upright and electric bass, and fiddle in multiple genres of music including Bluegrass, Country, and Gospel. I started playing guitar at the age of five and have been at it ever since. My dad borrowed a banjo from my uncle, a 1904 Sears open back with the original skin head on it. I started picking on it with a guitar pick and my father, noticing my interest, asked me if I wanted to take banjo lessons. I started taking lessons at the Bluegrass Music Shop in 1972 in Louisville, Kentucky and later took lessons from Milton Emberton in Vertrees, Kentucky. Since then eve
rything else has been learnt from the School of Hard Knocks and Open Road.

Many of my students have become successful in the music business as full-time musicians or in music-related fields. Since 2011 several of my students successively held State Championship titles and many placing second, third, and fourth. Everyone from the person who wants to sit on the porch and pick for themself or the performing musician has made my teaching career what it is today--challenging, fulfilling, but very rewarding. I believe music calms the dust of everyday life.

My performing career began with local square dances, jamborees, bluegrass festivals, and jam sessions. I was hired by The Reynolds Family Band as their banjo player and was with them for thirteen years. Some of the other bands I have played with are Sherle Williams Band, State Champion band Country Edition, and The Hickory Hollow Band. I also worked as a studio musician for three years with Alpha Recording and have recorded with The Revelators Gospel Quartet and The Valley Creek Boys. Some of the people in Bluegrass I have had the honor to headlined with are Dr. Ralph Stanley, Bill Monroe, J.D. Crowe, Del McCoury, Jim and Jesse, Bill Harrell and the Virginians, Charlie Sizemore, Michael Cleveland, Jimmy Martin, Doyle Lawson and many more.

Music has always been a big part of my life and I now feel I am doing what God has wanted me to do all along, keeping old time music alive and well.
