I am an experienced music teacher for over 20 years who teaches students of all levels and ages. I structure my instrument lessons around what the student wants to learn and at the same time build a solid foundation in music theory. I find one really does help the other in the student's grow and development.

About Paul
I have been teaching music for about 22 years mostly on the guitar but I also give lessons on the bass, piano, and ukelele. I give lessons to beginners of all ages. If you want to learn and have fun I am ready for your lesson. In addition to teaching I have played in various local original and cover bands as well as musical productions. I enjoy the challenge every student brings.

*** Lesson Details ***
I structure my lessons with a focus on learning to read and play music but I also like to teach a student what interests them as well. I think learning to read music is very important and it aides in the students development of their own musical personality. Early on the student will also learn songs or stlyes that interest them so its not just work but also play.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide books and various other t
hings (e.g. picks, music stands, metronomes, etc... at students expense) if asked. Student should provide instrument

*** Specialties ***

I have been struggling to learn how to play for 35 years and never could find the right instructor for "Me". I have come to the conclusion that I will never play the piano so I have given up on my dream. I felt this was a big let down in my life and I couldn't let myself down by giving up. So I started a search again for an Instructor that will be good for me. My search online took me to takelessons and I was connected with Paul.

I thought, "What do I have to lose, nothing". So I signed up and I have to say after meeting Paul and taking, now 3 lessons, I find that I finally found the instructor for me.

Paul is very attentive to my learning needs and is very accommodating in adopting his teaching style to fit my learning style. I am a slow learner, as well as, a sight learner (in other words, I have to see what one is explaining for me to understand) Paul has taken his time with me to show and explain everything to me.

Paul encourages me to ask questions and he will take the time to answer any question that I have and if I don't understand, Paul will explain it differently to me until I understand. Paul has a vast knowledge in music, Piano and other instruments which is very reassuring to me.

I know I have made the right decision to take my lessons with Paul. I have to say, I will finally be able to achieve a dream of mine that I have had for the past 35 year, and it's all thanks to Paul.

Thank you so much, Paul!!!

Paul is a true professional. Always polite, punctual and flexible. My son has been making quite a bit of progress in a few short months Paul has been teaching him. To the point that the middle school music teacher will be promoting my son to the advanced level band.

He's a really great guy. Really liked his lessons, he's great at the guitar, and really smart about helping you to understand the fundamentals and really build a solid base upon which to grow as a guitar player. Unfortunately, I had to move away from Staten Island to Brooklyn, so I had to discontinue lessons, otherwise I definitely would have continued with him.

With B.A. and Master's degrees in music and many years as a working musician, music book author and teacher, I incorporate music theory and ear training into the lessons I give; the goal is to help you be more than just a guitar strummer, but a musician as well, to develop the skills to become your own teacher and to go as far as you want.

About Paul Jared
Hi, I am a native New Yorker and a guitar player since age 13. I played in blues/rock bands throughout my teens, getting to play the legendary clubs of my Greenwich Village neighborhood. My discovery of Spanish classical guitar music occurred in college at UC Berkeley, and I graduated with a BA in Music, then spent two years playing in Europe, before returning home and forming the band Not Heaven; we played the club circuit, Danceteria to CBGB.

I also began teaching at the American Institute of Guitar in NYC, and writing guitar instruction books (still in print!). Along the way I did a Master’s in Guitar Performance at Stony Brook, and have continued to publish, perform and teach the music which inspires me.

Classical and Flamenco music are my primary involvement, as a teacher, performer and composer.

In these lessons I work with students individually to broaden their understanding of harmony, rhythm, form, and other important musical concepts that, when mastered, will drastically increase fluidity in musical thought, improvisation, and composition.

About Drew
Aside from an extensive amount of personal and teaching experience in all of these subjects, I genuinely love connecting with students through music to help them reach their personal goals. I believe that my approach towards learning music is deeply rewarding, engaging, and aids brain development. Below is my bio which details my approach and teaching experience.

Drew Wesely received his Bachelors of Music in Jazz and Improvisational Music from the University of Nevada Reno and his Masters of Music in Contemporary Improvisation from New England Conservatory. He teaches guitar, piano, songwriting, and composition with an emphasis on intuitive learning, ear training, and music theory. His background includes jazz, classical, rock, blues, reggae, R&B, hip-hop, electronic music, and improvised music. As an educator he has eight years of e
xperience in private studio and has given workshops at the middle school, high school, and college level including his recent outreach work with the Boston Philharmonic to underfunded schools. Drew approaches each student as an individual with their own goals, needs, experience level, and learning style to create a specialized curriculum that helps propel the student towards their best self and enjoy the process at the same time.

Was strictly interested in playing classical, nylon string guitar, and was a little nervous because Drew is very proficient and accomplished in Jazz and Improvisational guitar, which is a little outside of my interests.

Drew does a fantastic job at teaching classical guitar, and at the same time introduced me to the more modern world of improvisation guitar, which I now enjoy a lot more than before.

I'd highly recommend Drew if someone is interested in a well rounded musical education that goes beyond just playing an instrument. I not only learned a lot of guitar, but feel I'm an all around better musician after taking lessons with Drew

Are you interested in learning how to write your own music? Do you want to be able to play any song that you hear? I can help you learn the foundations of music theory and composition that will help you be the best musician you can be. I'll work with your interests and goals to make lessons fun and entertaining while giving you the solid technique and skills you need to succeed. If you're interested in composing, I'll also help you make the things you write come to life by recording, mixing, and producing them for you. Let's get started!

About Jennifer
I am a professional composer and arranger. I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor's of Music in Commercial Music Production and am pursuing my Master's at New York University in Scoring for Film and Multimedia.

I'm passionate about all things related to music theory, composition, and history. I believe that anyone can compose; they just need the music theory knowledge to know how to bring their ideas to life. Music theory doesn't have to be hard! I strive to make every lesson stress free and relevant to the student's interests.

As a professional composer, I've worked on numerous projects including short films and commercials. I've been playing piano since 2002 and cello since 2004. I've began theory and composition training in 2006 and have solidified my skills throughout my undergraduate education. I also studied
songwriting and music production, and I am happy to help students who are interested in writing and producing their own songs.

I believe a solid foundation in music theory is essential to being a successful musician, whether you want to write pop songs or perform in concert halls. Classical music is easy once you learn it, and it will help you in ways you could never imagine. I'm excited to work with you and help you become the best musician you can be!
