Beginning students work from the Alfred Premier Piano Course, later transitioning to the Pathways to Artistry series by my former teacher, Catherine Rollin. We work on developing a curved hand position with relaxed wrists and strong finger joints. I use technical exercises to teach artistic expression rather than teaching these two elements separately. Beginning students count and sing note-names out-loud to integrate theory and note-reading with their playing. I accept piano students ages five and older. I do not accept piano students younger than five because their hands are too small to play comfortably.

Piano students must have a well-maintained grand or upright piano which is tuned every six months. It is the responsibility of the student/parent to arrange tunings and repairs for their instrument at the suggestion of the teacher. Once you have registered for lessons, please contact the teacher for information on purchasing or renting a piano, and resources for tuning your ...

Hello!

My name is Jessica. I love teaching, and adore my students.

I specialize in Voice, Piano, Ukulele, and Steel Drums.

I am energetic, excited, and love teaching the kind of music that makes my students excited, whether they love Taylor Swift, Willie Nelson, or Kendrick Lamar. I love creating songs with students as they learn to express themselves.

I can teach students how to read music, how to play by ear, how to play songs they love, and how to make each song their own.

I cater my lesson style to each individual person. I gauge where they are at and their personality style and respond in a personalized way to help them grow their passion for music and get some serious skills.

If you are looking for a highly regimented instructor who is very serious, I am not the one for you!

"Mr. Rob has been teaching my 6 yrs. old son piano for a few months at our home. He is reliable, patient, and an effective teacher. In a relatively short time, we were impressed at the progress our son had made. Our little one keeps a manuscript book with his practice assignments and has been able to play recognizable notes from children's songs with both hands. The 30 min. sessions are perfect for this age and go by both quickly and enjoyably. We are looking forward to more sessions and continued growth."

"We are so delighted to have Luther teaching our girls the piano. Our eldest who is 7 has played for a while but we are really seeing a huge impact with his instruction. She is more excited to learn and even goes independently now to practice on her own in the middle of the week, which was really never the case and she really loved her last teacher of two years. After just 3 lessons ( with a gap in between the first two) we can see she has progressed more than she has in 6 months of weekly lessons. The thing that we really love is that he is not just there to make a dollar, and he does not want to waste your money and will give it to you straight! You couldn't ask for more! OUr youngest was so impressed now even she is showing an interest in the piano and she took over the second lesson and now we have gotten the 4 year old started as well. Very satisfied customers already. Looking forward to an awesome year!"

Getting Started: 5 Wonderful Piano Books for Kids

When a child begins playing piano, the first few months must be entertaining enough to keep them engaged, but educational enough that they feel they are making progress. There are many piano books for kids available, but a few provide the right mix of familiarity and challenges likely to keep your child's attention. The majority of beginning piano books for kids include nursery rhymes and children’s songs, so finding a book that they can enjoy is easy. However, it is balancing this with less f …
