I want to serve as a supportive and instructional figure that helps cultivate an appreciation of music for all students. In order to do this, I believe it's important to prioritize personal student progress rather than subscribe to a fixed game plan. That being said I take on a relaxed adaptive teaching style that tailors to the student. It's my hope that all students feel comfortable working and discussing music topics with me as I believe thoughtful conversations, whether straightforward or abstract, is an essential learning technique.

Since 2011, I've had the joy of teaching students how to play the violin to the best of their ability. From six year olds just starting out to adults in their 80s who want to learn just for fun, I've successfully taught the skills and techniques to make music on this beautiful instrument.

I do everything I can to make learning fun and engaging -- often using games, flashcards, and interactive exercises to teach certain concepts, especially for younger players. Complex skills are broken down into "bite-sized" pieces that are easy to understand. They are then layered on top of one another sequentially. Through it all, I provide students with steady encouragement and just the ...

As you're learning how to play the violin, the art of holding and placing your bow just right is important to master. There are a lot of details that go into proper bowing technique, and each has the potential to make or break your sound. For many beginners, learning to control the bow so it doesn't bounce against the strings is the first step. The dreaded "bouncing bow" is a common issue, especially if you're trying to play softly, or if you're nervous. Here are some possible reasons for a …
