This is one of my main instruments. I will teach the proper way of playing this instrument to prevent injury. I can teach any style and any type of music.
I am a Hofstra University graduate with over fifteen years of experience in music. I have played at many of the venues in the NYC area and have toured with the R&B singer Macy Gray. I am currently working with four different bands in the tri-state area in addition to the session work.
*** Lesson Details *** In my lessons I take a step by step approach on learn how to move and how to understand the instrument at hand. I require all of my students to learn how to read sheet music and how to translate onto their instrument. I'm a laid back teacher and will teach what is most appealing to the student but in an academic style. I teach the student not just to play but to understand what it is he or she is playing. I will cater to any level of playing and help give a path to further their knowledge of playing.
Carissa Austria, age 8, learned piano with Jeff. Her lessons were instrumental in giving her the incentive to practice on her own. Jeff created lessons that made my daughter curious on how to play on her own and experimented with certain keys and sounds. Thank you Jeff for giving my daughter the deep insight to playing the piano not only from her weekly lessons but encouraging her to practice on her own with minimum supervision.
The Lessons will be focused on: Reading (notation and charts); improvisation; bass lines; bow; technique; learning tunes; ear training; music theory.
Fabrizio Sciacca was born on May 25, 1990 in Catania, Italy. His interest in music began at a young age, when his father would play him his favorite records. At 14 years old, Fabrizio started playing electric bass, studying with a local teacher in his hometown. After graduating high school, he began his law studies at Catania University only to realize within the year that his true passion was music. He promptly applied to Berklee College of Music in 2011 and was accepted with a scholarship. During his four years at Berklee, Fabrizio studied with renowned professors: John Patitucci, Danilo Perez, and Victor Bailey. While there, he performed with a variety of ensembles in many venues of Boston, such as Wally's (famous jazz club where many jazz icons like Charlie Parker performed). Upon completing his undergrad degree in Electric
and Double Bass Performance in 2015, Fabrizio moved to New York. He began studying with bass legend Ron Carter while earning a Master’s Degree in Performance and Composition from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in 2018. Since moving to New York, Fabrizio has collaborated and shared the stage with some of the best musicians on the scene including Harry Allen, Billy Drummond and Joe Magnarelli. He has also performed in many well-known jazz clubs in the City like Fat Cat, Mezzrow, Shapeshifter, and Minton's. In June 2019, Fabrizio was awarded the Welcome Back Tony Scott award, a prestigious recognition given to talented musicians by the city of Salemi, Italy, to honor the memory of the great clarinet player Tony Scott. During the same time, he performed with the Edo Ferragamo Project at the GruVillage Festival (Grugliasco, Italy) and Valmontone Summer Festival (Valmontone, Italy), opening for the Italian dates of Anastacia's summer tour. Currently, Fabrizio continues to learn from his mentor, Ron Carter. He has also released his debut record Gettin' It There with Billy Drummond on drums, Donald Vega on piano, and Jed Levy on saxophone. With all these accomplishments and tireless nature, Fabrizio Sciacca is determined to make himself a fixture of the international jazz community.
Fabrizio is a great teacher. Helped me out a lot improving my reading and harmony. Thank you!

I enjoyed taking lessons with him. Very passionate about the bass and very in tune with the student's needs. Only reason I didn't give him 5 stars was because of his location, very difficult to get from Flushing to Harlem.
I will work on technique, improvisation in jazz and other styles, classical repertoire, playing different grooves, bow technique, constructing bass lines, and overall bass playing (accompanying)

I've been playing in jazz ensembles, big bands, orchestras, country bands, etc, for more than 15 years. I will guide you to mastery on the upright bass through sound fundamental education and transcription.
I'm a bass player, educator, composer, arranger and band leader living in Brooklyn, NY, and am active in a diverse group of projects that include polka, jazz, classical, and commercial music. I've been teaching double bass and electric bass for 20 years, and have recently added synth bass to my lesson repertoire. I grew up playing orchestral music, jazz, and rock throughout high school, and attended NYU Jazz Performance program, from which I graduated in 2005. While there I studied with a variety of teachers including John Scofield, Mike Richmond, Billy Hart, and Ron McClure.
I've performed with a wide variety of acts, including The Lone Bellow, Grace McLean (Marya in Broadway's "The Great Comet of 1812"), Major Attaway (Genie in Broadway's "Aladdin"), Donnell James Foreman, (Broadway's "The Book Of Mormon"), and I'm currently the Mus
ical Director for Melanie Penn and Porter and Sayles. I've appeared in performance on ABC's "The Chew" and "The Bachelor," and perform regularly with New York City's most renown Polka Band, The Polka Brothers.
I've thoroughly enjoyed working and growing as a musician, and I'm passionate about helping others do the same. I currently teach at NYU, as well as occasional programs at the Turtle Bay Music School in Manhattan.
Being an active and experienced musician gives me the necessary knowledge to know what is needed on order to become a better musician. Also having over 20 years of teaching experience allows me to tailor my knowledge to the need of every particular student. I really enjoy to transfer my knowledge and solve the unique musical problem that every student encounter during their musical path.
Bassist and composer Andrea performs extensively within the improvised music scene, across a broad spectrum of genres. His instrumental tone, sensitivity and imagination, and melodic approach to a supposedly clumsy instrument brought him to perform and record with many established musicians. Based in New York City, his work as an instrumentalist and composer can be regularly heard at the top jazz clubs in the city and around the globe.
As a current faculty member of the New York Jazz Workshop, Andrea is a dedicated educator. He has taught master classes at the National Institute of Music and the National University of Costa Rica, at the Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey and at the Olav Duun Videregående Skole in Namsos, Norway. He also served as an adjunct professor at New York University, where he graduated in 2011 with a Master
of Music Degree in Performance with a Concentration in Jazz as a Fulbright scholarship recipient.
I am truly happy to have chosen Andrea as my teacher. Not only he has an intelligent approach on how to introduce and teach the Italian language, he is also very polite, friendly and accommodating. It’s a real pleasure to learn from him!

I had my first English lesson with Andrea and it was very useful for me. I think that he pointed on my problem. He's a keen observer.

Andrea is the best. He's personable, prompt, flexible yet clear, a pleasure to work with. He has given weekly Italian lessons to me and my wife in our home. We can't recommend him highly enough.
My goal as a teacher is to give you the facility to express yourself through music. The key parts to developing this facility are:
1. theory -- if you know your theory, you know the best way to express your idea without having to think about it 2. technique -- the last thing you want is for your technique to hinder your ability to express your idea. Having good technique lets your ideas flow naturally
When you take lessons with me, you get out of it what you put in. Your job as student is to be honest with what you expect to achieve and my job as teacher is to give you the tools to achieve it
I am a bass player first, not a guitarist who also teaches bass. Students will learn technique, theory and groove from a teacher who understands that as bass players, we are in a unique position. Since bass is both a harmony and rhythm instrument we have the opportunity to develop into leaders in a way other instrumentalists don't. I will encourage students interested in exploring this aspect of their instrument
I have a degree in jazz performance from The Ohio State University and have played in numerous rock, jazz and off-broadway bands over the last 20 years. Now playing is something I do primarily for fun and my #1 goal is always that my students have as much fun playing as I do
David went over basic music theory and rhythm with me, and corrected some technique issues. He explained things clearly and when we put some of it into practice in the final minutes I saw instant results. Absolutely excited to do my homework and for my next lesson.

As a beginning, self-taught bass player of four months, I wanted to find a teacher who could analyze and critique my playing. I scheduled five lessons with David over a time period of three months. David was instrumental in analyzing and critiquing bad techniques and habits I acquired. He very thoroughly emphasized proper fretting technique and finger positioning; exercises were given that helped me obtain full tonal quality and efficient fretboard navigation skills. We also reviewed basic theory, scale modes, rhythmic weight, pentatonics and arpeggios; seminal knowledge for the beginner.
A technical type player, David has excellent playing skills as well as a comprehensive knowledge of theory and its practical application. He is a good listener and showed a genuine interest in helping me achieve my goals. I definitely can see an improvement in my playing skills....playing more confidently and efficiently.

David has really tailored our lessons for what I was interested in doing. We are working on technique, musicianship and jazz. He was able to assess quickly where I was at with my skill set and pin point ideas and exercises to help me improve. I'm eager to keep on studying with him!
"I love working with Lisa. She's a very professional and lively teacher who makes music accessible and enjoyable. She is always on time and with good attit
ude. HIghly recommend it!"
"Lisa is the best!!! I came to her as a complete beginner, having tried both guitar and piano but always having been drawn to electric & upright bass, and
a bit daunted on how to jump in. She was the perfect person to start with - warm, supportive, and encouraging. She is a super badass musician and the way she plays is inspiring! But more importantly, she knows how to make whatever we're learning interesting and fun. From Peter Gabriel songs to Pink Floyd to Gershwin, I can't recommend her enough."
"My daughter loved her lesson and can't wait until next week"
"He has a lot of knowledge, and have passion for music. He is very nice and fun to talk. He speaks Japanese pretty well."
"Norman was extremely qualified and talented. His lessons were suited to my individual needs and he answered the questions and worked with me to make the
most out of my level and limited lesson time. I have learned a great deal and this experience with Norman was well worth the time and money. I am grateful for his lessons."
"Dr. Norman is a great teacher. He works well with my 14 year old son. I would highly recommend him."
"This is the first lesson I got to listen to of my son working with Nathan. Usually I'm not home from work. I am really impressed with how much he was able
to help my son improve so quickly. I wish we had started this much sooner."
"Lisa has given me a better insight on the double bass and how to physically approach the instrument in a healthy way. Furthermore her creativity and fun w
ith music has been a great push to expand my creativity through the instrument. I would definitely recommend lessons with her as she provides you with a strong foundation."
"Darren is enthusiastic and always looking for ways to "get through" to a student. He has a contagious passion."
