I am an experienced Acoustic Guitar Teacher of 20 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of acoustic guitar skills. I specialize in styles such as Rock, Blues, Pop, and Folk, typically use Alfrend's Guitar Method, The Hal Leonard Guitar Method, or any instrutional books that my students prefer or have been using.

About Sze Lim
Hi parents/students,

My name is Sylivan. I'm a dedicated musician who is passionate in music education and guitar music. I have majored in Music and received my professional training at City College of New York with a minor in Education. I have been playing music for 20 years and have performed in many different occasions. Over the years, I have developed various kinds of skills in music from my education, formal training and experiences:

- Learned various types of music for over 10 years such as classical, rock, and pop
- Avid guitarist and also proficient in bass, drums, piano, and vocal
- Solid foundation of theory and harmony
- Worked as music and guitar instructor for private music lesson and other organizations such as summer camps and private music institutes.

I have also been teaching children and teenagers music for
over 10 years, including group classes and private lessons. Below are some of the goals in my teaching method and what students can benefit in every lesson:

- Explaining the structure of guitar and giving the basic information about the instrument
- Instructing students about both the basic and advance techniques in guitar playing
- Striking a fine blend of theory and practicality while teaching guitar playing
- Ability to understand the needs, short and long term goals of different students and changing the methods of teaching accordingly
- Preparing students for student recitals or public performances if necessary

I'm funny, friendly, outgoing, and love to play guitar. I’m also flexible and easy to work with, however when it comes to learning I’m strict and serious. Some of my students call me “Three-Face”, for I’m not only your teacher but also your friend and your coach: I will introduce you to the world of guitar as a teacher; jam and have fun with you as a friend; and I will train you and make sure you are on the right as a coach.

I like all kinds of music, from Classical to Metal and everything in between. Some of my favorite bands/artists who influence me include: Joe Satriani, Slash, Santana, Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, Disturbed, Antoine Carre, Niccolo Paganini, Antonio Vivaldi…

Sharing my knowledge in music and guitar makes me happy, and it is the greatest joy for me to see my students grow and play the music they like. Guitar lessons should be fun and enjoyable, yet challenging.

Thank you very much for visiting my page and I hope to teach you soon!

Best wishes,

- Sylivan T.

*** Lesson Details ***
During our first lesson, we will first talk about your goal and music direction that you want to pursuit. Then based on your goal and direction, I will customize a curricular track and briefly explain the things that you need to know and what you need to focus on in order to achieve your goal.

As your instructor, my goal is to help you to reach your goals and to have fun with the music you enjoy. In each lesson, according to your progress, I will introduce you new concepts/materials using fun and easy-to-learn activities. Then we will work on the materials together and have fun jamming together. Yes!! You will feel like you are jamming along with your friend instead of taking a guitar lesson, because guitar lessons suppose to be fun!!!

Each particular lesson I will assign you some assignments. They would either be things that we already jammed on during the lesson, or something that I want you to work on your own. Then when we meet again, we will go over the assignments together and I will give you comments and advises to help you play better.

Below are only some of the instructional books that I usually use for teaching beginners. I will also use other instructional books and music repertories according to the ability of the students and their music style:

- Hal Leonard Guitar Method: Will Schmid and Greg Koch
- Alfred’s Basic Guitar Method: Alfred d’ Auberge and Morton Manus
- Hal Leonard Rock Guitar Method: Michael Mueller
- Solo Guitar Playing: Frederick M. Noad

From my experience as a teacher and student, I believe there is no such thing as a “Perfect Instructional Book”. Therefore along with the above instructional books I will add in some other activities and exercises written by myself.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect my students to have a guitar and a chromatic tuner. Also a note book, some staff paper, and a pen and a pencil.

For electric guitar, it's necessary to have an amp and a .25 inch cable at home

*** Specialties ***
Usually use Mei Bay Guitar Method as a general guide and text for guitar teaching.

*** Specialized in classical, rock, blues, and pop ***

Sylivan is a great teacher with great personality. He was there to help me not only when I struggled with music and guitar but also when I felt down. I asked him why he cared so much and he told me a healthy mind is most important which helps in music learning =) Sylivan is also patient; even sometimes I can't stand myself but he was there to help me to learn lol He has passion in teaching and you can see it once he's in action.

Learn repertoire that ranges from pop to contemporary, fingerstyle, and jazz, with a bit of blues thrown in.

You can use a pick or fingers, learn to read music or tab, learn technique idiomatic to the guitar as a melodic or accompanying instrument.

We can explore song writing and recording as well!

About Cheryl
I teach music to children ages 7 through 18 - including college prep.

Your child will learn how to read music, play melody and chords and progressively acquire skills as a musician and guitarist. Music theory and rhythm study is included.

Learning an instrument teaches focus and goal setting strategies, develops self-direction and self-esteem, plus the added benefit of developing the brain for academic achievement. And, it's just plain FUN!!

This is perfect for home schooled children or as a supplement to public or private school music programs.

I have been a musician for over 25 years. I have a Bachelor of Music and have taught guitar for over 10 years.

In addition to guitar, I'm a vocalist, composer and arranger as well as a music publisher. I actively perform as both a classical guitarist and singer-songwriter.

I specialize in acoustic and acoustic/electric guitar - both classical and contemporary, steel string and nylon.

PLEASE SPEAK TO ME before purchasing your child's instrument. A standard size steel string guitar can be difficult to handle and may discourage your child.

***NOTES ABOUT SPECIAL NEEDS***

Usually, learning disabilities, ADD & ADHD go together just fine with guitar lessons and frequently give these precious young people a creative outlet. Speak to me about your child's needs so I can prepare the best lessons possible!

Be aware that there are stairs to my home studio. Please take this into consideration if you have an ambulatory disability.

*** STUDIO EQUIPMENT ***

Home Studio, dedicated space, guitars and recording equipment, keyboard and amps, music stands, chairs, comfortable waiting area for parents.

About Stephen
Want to belt like Beyonce? Broadway dreams? Act in Movies? Need help taking your sales presentations to the next level?

Hi, I'm Stephen.

I'm a vocal trainer, acting coach, consultant, and songwriting teacher. My specialty is pop/rock, on camera, live presentations/sales, and helping songwriters find their voice, both lyrically and sonically.

Tap Into Your Artistry (TIYA) is the ultimate gym for singing, acting, and songwriting.

Discover the fastest and most efficient way to build, strengthen, and condition your voice. Simple, safe, systematic vocal exercises that embrace a Zen like approach with an athletic mentality.

I'm also an AEA and SAG-AFTRA actor and ASCAP songwriter and producer. If you want to learn more about acting in movies, performing on Broadway, writing your own songs, and developing show-biz career str
ategy, I help TIYA members every day achieve their artistic dreams.

MORE INFO:
I have been singing since I was 3, anything and everything from Michael Jackson to Elvis Presley to Luciano Pavarotti. Originally from Colorado, I studied music/theatre, as well as vocal pedagogy at The University of Colorado at Boulder, where I graduated with highest honors. I made my Broadway debut in "The Phantom of the Opera" at age 24. I also performed in "Chess in concert" as a featured rock tenor soloist at the New Amsterdam Theatre on Broadway with Josh Groban. I have understudied and performed lead roles in the first AEA National Tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s "Whistle Down the Wind." Regionally, I have played many lead roles all over the United States in productions including "Les Miserables," "Miss Saigon," "The Wild Party," and "She Loves Me."

As an ASCAP recording artist, currently I am working in the studio with a full production team on my first pop/rock album. I also often sing on demos for producers and write songs for other artists in many different genres.

As a TV/Film actor, most recently I was on set with Marvel's Luke Cage on Netflix, and I played the lead role of (Abraham) Lincoln in the digital series pilot, "These Honored Dead." I also have played lead roles in 4 SAG-AFTRA short films, as well as the comedic lead in a SAG-AFTRA Web-series pilot, "Bodega Nights." I was called back for producers as a Series Regular for "The Knick," an episodic series produced and directed by Steven Soderbergh on Cinemax.

My audition prep will help you master your sides for any playing space; Broadway plays/musicals and especially on camera.

TIYA clients include (aspiring) Broadway performers, Film and TV actors, singer-songwriters, news anchors, dancers, comedians, CEO's all over the world, as well as karaoke enthusiasts, and songwriting hobbyists.

My TIYA members have performed on television in Smash, Glee, and venues around NYC ranging from The Underground, Le Poisson Rouge, Drom, Cornelia Street Cafe, Arlene’s Grocery, to the Broadway productions of Ghost, Sister Act, Evita, Wicked, West Side Story, South Pacific, The Phantom of the Opera, and Rent to name a few.

*** Lesson Details ***
We will always work on whatever you want.

For Singing, as a vocal technician/trainer I am like going to the gym for your voice. My exercises are safe, simple, and most importantly, I teach you how to practice correctly.

For ACTing, we can explore both the foundation itself with monologues and scenes, as well as the tricks of the trade mastering the camera frame and how to create memorable auditions for TV/Film.

For Songwriting, we can explore the fundamentals of both lyrics and music, as well as catchy hooks, production, and song structure.

You may use my time however you wish (Voice, Acting, Songwriting, or Artistic/Career guidance).

Most vocal sessions will usually be a combination of strengthening/ conditioning exercises, and then exploring/performing a song.

Most ACTing sessions will be theatre monologues, TV/Film sides and/or On camera auditioning craft.

Career consultations usually include how to get an agent, headshots, branding, and marketing to align your artistic dreams with a strategy for success.

I have been playing acoustic guitar for over 20 years and teaching for about 10 years. I'm happy to share my knowledge and expertise with students of all ages and skill levels - beginner to advanced.

About Gio
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums.

I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into practicing, then I will help them go far!

*** Studi
o Equipment ***
I have several guitars, a drum kit, djembe, mandolin, clarinet and full-size keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar: Classical, jazz, American or Irish folk, rock and pop; lead or rhythm.

The lessons will cover chords, technique, theory, musicality, ear training, and more. About Andrew
I have a Bachelors of Music Composition from Brooklyn College, and I'm currently finishing a Masters degree. I've been playing music professionally for 27 years, spanning a wide range of styles. My knowledge of different genres gives me a unique perspective for teaching.
I've been entertaining at the piano for 15 years, playing guitar for 25+, and began my musical career primarily as a drummer with a variety of bands. I'm classically trained as a percussionist, and I studied jazz piano at the University of Kentucky before finishing my degree at Brooklyn College.

I believe that music should never feel like a chore and that music learning should be curiosity-driven, active, enjoyable, and emphasize self-expression. Learn good habits from the beginning and build techniques from a solid foundation to adapt to any musical style you'd like!

About Diana
Hello! My name is Diana and I am an accomplished classical guitarist and pianist living in Brooklyn, New York. My experience has been established through a decade of private instruction under renown classical guitarist Dr. Lynn McGrath and pianist Stephen Montoya. I studied music, theory, and foreign language at the University of New Mexico and studied classical guitar at the North Carolina School for the Arts as one of the youngest students admitted at the age of 17. As a high school student I participated and competed in festivals across the U.S. including the Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) and with masterclass instruction from renowned guitarists and composers, David Russell and Ana Vidovic. Within 10 years of dedicated study, I have been honored with awards of excellence from the National Honors Society of Guitar and recognized f
or her many accomplishments, including a performance with the highly acclaimed woman’s guitar ensemble ‘Presti Quartet,’ the first-ever woman elected as 1st chair in the New Mexico ALLSTATE Guitar Orchestra 2 consecutive years, and chosen as one of twelve international guitarists to represent music in education. I recently relocated to NYC from New Orleans where I taught private music lessons to children and young adults and immersed myself in the city of soul to study jazz music. Most recently I spent my summer abroad teaching piano lessons in Spanish to children in Spain. In addition to my solo and duet performances I have taught private music lessons since the age of sixteen with a mission to inspire aspiring musicians as a music educator and bring a life-long love of music to my students!

I love to get to know my students and identify their specific goals. I personalize a curriculum for each student that includes learning the music they want to learn with the technique that I feel is important to learn. I’ll teach you theory, style, and performance techniques, Let’s have some fun!

About Casey
Hi! I am a professional singer, actor, and musician and have been doing performing on stage since I was 9 years old. I received my degree in music from James Madison University and moved to New York City where I have stayed employed as an actor and musician.

I am currently recording my first demo EP of original songs. My songwriting has been a work in progress and I’m looking forward to this album coming out. I also have been working as a pit musician for musicals and am very interested in helping students with an interest in Musical theatre. I also love working with children, I have been an instructor at Little Maestros music school, and it is the best part of my day seeing children learn to sing and dance!

I learned how to play guitar from reading music while many guitarists learn by ear. Being able to read music is invaluable whe
n it comes to playing with bands, learning new songs, and writing your own music. My teaching is a combination of ear training and sight reading to give you a well rounded perspective of music.
