To be honest I've never acted a day in my life before. Tamika was absolutely wonderful in helping me calm my (obvuously) nervous self, and worked with what I naturally brought to the stage and highlighted my own attributes. By the time I had opening night, I felt more comfortable than presenting to a bunch of investors (which is my day job). Thank you again Tamika, for really helping me develop skills and traits for the acting stage even I didn't know I had in me! I loom forward to working with you again soon!

I was recently in a play titled “Why Does It Hurt So Bad?” with Tamika as an Artist Development teacher. She was extremely helpful when it came to knowing how to project your voice, emoting and becoming the character that you are portraying. Tamika was very professional and she always helped wherever she could. Tamika always gave great advice and how you can improve your craft as an actor. Everyone in the play took note of what Tamika was saying and applied it in the next rehearsal, getting better and better every time. This is the reason why the play was so successful. I will definitely keep in contact with her to keep perfecting my craft and to see if there’s a way that I can take acting lessons from her. Thank you so much Tamika. You’re AWESOME and so TALENTED!

A NOTE TO THE STUDENT
I am so glad that you are looking into finding a voice teacher who fits your unique style, personality, and being. I love teaching voice. I love seeing my students go from where they are when they first arrive in my studio to auditioning with confidence, or singing in Broadway shows and bands, recording albums, and participating in open mics with ease and grace. It is my sincere hope to create a singer in every family! Maybe if we have a singer in every family, there will be less violence in our sometimes turbulent world. If it is your dream to be a singer, I encourage you to pursue it with abandon!

Ms. Arlette is professional, warm and encouraging. I have to sing for a band I play an instrument with. Very nervous about the entire idea of singing. I am learning the proper way to sing, and believe I will be able to do so with the combination of technical expertise and encouragement I am receiving. I am very pleased that I found Ms. Arlette. I cannot say enough positive things about her.

About Orla
Hi there!
My name is Orla Conway and the biggest difference between my teaching style and any other vocal coach in the D.C. metro area is my Relaxation First method.
This wholistic, centering, and therapeutic technique uses guided relaxation to insure that students not only learn about proper vocal technique, but actually master it in a way that will completely transform their natural singing voice.
I am dedicated to nurturing the differences in each students voice, and through this customized approach my students learn to understand their bodies and gain total control over their intonation, resonance, and vibrance.
This simply means that the student will be able to sing any style of music they want!
Together we will eliminate tension, strain and pain from the singing experience. We will gain comfort, ease and will highlight the be
auty in your unique sound (as opposed to attempting to make your voice conform to someone else's style).
I am here to make you sound like the most authentic version of yourself, and to find the deep joy and expression that comes from letting your voice be heard!

I began my vocal training at the age of 12 learning how to sing classical and musical theater music. I eventually went on to learn jazz and rock vocal techniques before going to Berklee College of Music in Boston where I learned how to sing celtic music and alternative contemporary styles. I have my own band which I write all the music for, and we have performed all around Boston and in New York City.
My students have achieved admission into Berklee College of Music in Boston, lead roles in their school plays such as Peter Pan, Into the Woods, and Julius Caesar. They have achieved new levels of confidence and power that have made them the stars of their local open mics, talent shows, and recitals!

The most important thing to me when working with singers of any age or ability is helping them learn the correct techniques to keep their voices safe and healthy while singing. With this strong foundation, my students will be able to achieve almost any style or level of singing they desire. It is totally possible to stretch your vocal range, learn a new style, or incorporate movement into your songs if you simply use the correct and healthy vocal techniques!
I also make sure to focus a lot on confidence and stage presence to help students prepare for upcoming auditions, showcases, concerts, and talent shows.

With my voice lessons it is absolutely possible to transition out of your stage fright and own that stage like you were born to be there, because you were!! These are not only vocal coaching sessions, but complete performance-ready-workshops.
I am here to make all your singing and vocal performance dreams come true! I can't wait to sing with you :)

I booked a package (10 lessons) with Orla to help me gain confidence in my choral singing abilities. I was nervous at first, but she was patient and made me comfortable very quickly. She is very knowledgeable about anatomy and the "how" of singing, but even more importantly, she can communicate the visual, physical and emotional cues that are so critical to learning to sing properly. We focused on exercises to improve the areas I needed the most work on, and I could see the improvement in my singing in just a few lessons! As the lessons flew by, she "leveled me up" in areas that I was doing well in, and kept on working with me on the techniques that are a bit more difficult for me. I could tell that she was really engaging with me as an individual, and making me the best singer I could be.

Overall an extremely positive experience - I would recommend Orla to anyone in the area looking for a vocal teacher.
