I love music theory for it's ability to organize and clarify the rich and complex musical world, and I often find myself getting as excited about theory as I do about performance. I have studied traditional theory and jazz harmony as well as George Russell's Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization. I often use theory to demystify very many styles of music from pop and rock to classical and jazz to the exotic sounds of North Africa and Eastern Europe.

About Bobby

I am a jazz trumpeter, improviser, and composer as well as an avid listener and enthusiastic educator. I maintain an active performance schedule playing improvised music as well as funk, soul, afro-beat, reggae, hip-hop, and American folk music. In addition to trumpet, I have experience performing

Bobby has been a great teacher. I am in my 30s, trumpet beginner and with very limited time due to busy work schedule.Despite those limitations, Bobby has managed to keep every lesson interesting and challenging by mixing music theory, drills, and popular tunes fitted to my personal taste in music. I feel I am making steady progress.

Sylivan is a great teacher with great personality. He was there to help me not only when I struggled with music and guitar but also when I felt down. I asked him why he cared so much and he told me a healthy mind is most important which helps in music learning =) Sylivan is also patient; even sometimes I can't stand myself but he was there to help me to learn lol He has passion in teaching and you can see it once he's in action.

Spiros is a very friendly and effective tutor, who adapts his teaching to the student’s needs and proficiency level – in my case it’s a great mix of reading, conversation, and a short written assignment for each lesson. The online video format works perfectly. Under his instruction I am both encouraged and challenged, as I expand my vocabulary and conversational skills and build my confidence in Greek. Highly recommend!

Online Music Theory Teacher

I have been a musician for 14 years, and have been studying music theory for 6 of those years. Though I am originally classically trained, with multiple years of theory training at UGA and a music theory certificate from Brown University, I have also spent a considerable amount of time studying the music theory of all genres of music. From classical to jazz to rock to bluegrass, I love teaching the music theory of all genres. Within a couple lessons you will start to develop a deep understanding of the technicalities and mathematics behind music, and eventually you will be incorporating your theoretical knowledge into all aspects of your musicianship. Lets get started!

About Will

Hi there! I have been a musician for 14 years, and have been teaching private lessons for 5 years. I studied Viola Performance and Jazz Performance at the University of Georgia, as well as played in the University Symphony. Currently I am working with a string quartet, a bluegrass band, a jazz trio

My daughter only responds to teachers that are fun, positive and talk at her level. Will is the perfect match. She was playing her self-taught "sponge bob square pants" theme song while there was an internet glitch, and Will heard a portion of it, so asked her to play it again, and complimented her. She was so proud. That flexibility and positive feedback is keeping her engaged in lessons. Thank you Will!

As of June 2019, we switched from an in-studio lesson to an online one. It was amazing how both my, at that time 9-year old, son and Enoch adjusted to one another, how Enoch was able to find the weaknesses and strengths, along with my son's fields of interest. How he was able to communicate with him about fun stuff but redirect him back to his lesson smoothly. We continue to take lessons with Enoch even though we have moved to the Netherlands and Enoch is still in the USA. He is a keeper. :)

"Honestly I couldn't have picked a better teacher. Above all else, Christian really takes the time to help you understand what he's teaching and how to apply it to your own playing. I've been playing guitar for 10 years now and before I started taking lessons from him, I never knew how much I didn't know. Every lesson is fun and engaging and definitely well worth the rate. "This tutoring session was probably the best I have ever had. I am taking a Music 101 course in which I am finding myself having trouble with. I took up tutoring with Stephen and he really broke down the steps. Sometimes, I do not understand things the first time when they are explained to me; and reading music happens to be one of them. However, I am very lucky to have Stephen as my tutor who is very patient in explaining the lesson to me. If you want a tutor who is patient and willing to invest time in helping you understand music, I highly recommend that you take Stephen."

"Keith is a an awesome teacher! I learned so much from him in the span of a few weeks. Every lesson is packed full of information and he makes sure you totally get and understand the lesson before moving onto the next chapter. I really appreciate that he corrects me whenever I make mistakes especially when it comes to staying on beat while playing the piano with the metronome. Lessons are also never boring with him. I feel that he truly cares for the musical growth of his students. Although, I'm taking a break from Take Lessons when I enroll again I will choose Keith for Piano/Music Theory."

But as far as I know you gave a great class on the basics of theory, which was wonderful. Thank you so much for your excellent class. Please let me know if I need to do anything more to change it to singing lessons.
Thank you!!

Why You Should Learn (At Least a Little) Music Theory

One of the most common weaknesses for amateur musicians is a lack of music theory knowledge. Many people assume that learning theory is difficult (it isn’t) that it has no practical purpose (it does), or even that it will actively make them worse at making music (quite the opposite). I’m here to convince you that learning a little about how music works is one of the most important skills you can develop and should absolutely be part of your daily practice routine. Here are five reasons w …
